Shame on me! I have forgotten how to extract a file that I need from \I386\LANG\ folder on the W2KS CD!. It is a TTF file but it has the extention .TT_ on the CD. Could someone help me with this- I have done this so many times about a year back- but now.... TIA.

How to extract a file from W2K CD?
hardwarecrazy replied to hardwarecrazy's topic in Everything New Technology
Thanks! In the meantime, I found out that the ever-useful WINZIP can do the job! -
I have a W2K system and my boot drive is nearly full - I want to move some of the programs to other hard drives in the same system without having to uninstall and reinstall some of the programs. What is the easiest way to do it? Is there a freeware available that can accomplish this task seemlessly? Thanks in advance.

Could someone recommend a freeware or shareware that captures sound played in the speakers (whether thru' Windows Media Player or Real or whatever) and converts to/from WAV to MP3? TIA.
-
Has anyone tried and tested it out? Should we or shouldn't we install it? Please share your thoughts!

Hi, Whenever I try to send a mail through my ISP (DSL), I get a message from ZA "The firewall has blocked access to your computer (ICMP Unreachable) from 192.168.1.1.". I could not figure out what is happening here. Could someone help me please? TIA.
-
No, it does not. In fact, 192.168.1.1 is my own PC - not an external IP address. Any other suggestions, any one?

I am in the process of evaluating different Hosts for a charitable organization. I came across one Host whose specification says for Server Operating System: UNIX (NT Call). What is this NT Call on a UNIX machine? Additionally it says that WebSite Management can be done through FrontPage - how is that possible on an UNIX box? Kindly throw some light on these! Would be much obliged. Thanks.

Kindly help me understand!

Bursar, if my reply was pointed, my apologises. That was not my intent. I am now clear on what I need to do - it is clear from the replies that 1. "NT Call" is not a standard terminology. 2. FP has extensions for UNIX. 3. I am shocked to hear from Bladerunner to keep away from those who offer "unlimited" deals. I was in fact going in that direction and thanks for stopping me going that way! I would appreciate hearing from you why you said what you said. 4. I will take Bursar's advise and clarify on that "NT call" stuff. Thanks all of you for your valuable time. -

No offence, but it would be better not to answer if you haven't one. Having said that, I have more confidence putting questions to this forum than to anybody else. -
1. Looks like the installation is smooth and I did not experience any issues so far, on W2KS. 2. I read somewhere (with a screen shot) that talks about a change in the Control Panel, Add Remove programs that adds something called "Set Program Access and Defaults", included in SP3. Well, I have not seen it in my installation. Anyone else?

Have we signed a blank check to M$ by installing SP3? See http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/4/26517.html

Document scanning for CD archival storage
hardwarecrazy replied to SnapperOne's topic in Slack Space
I have been archiving documents using Adobe Acrobat and I will never go back to anything else. No issues at all! -
BTW, is there any difference between "music" CDs and "non-music" CDs? I have been using non-music CDs for music recording and even in the peak Arizona summer, they played perfectly in my van. I think this is a pure marketing hype. Got different views?

As you know, the Firewall in a Network has an internal IP address and an external IP address. If I know the internal one, how can I find out the external one? TIA.
-
DosFreak,I am unable to access your link!
-
Yes, you are right that what you see in the Visual Route Server is the address to which the network is connected to the service provider (usually through ADSL modem or whatever) and not the Firewall which is one step lower than the modem. So my rephrased question is how do I find out the IP address of the firewall that is connecting to the modem, if I know the IP address of the firewall as seen by the office internal network......
-
Yes, internal -> within the Intranet and External ->Internet. Clutch, the IP address listed in the Visual Route Server is different from the IP address that my NW admin gave me...any clues why? Additionally, any tools to verify the same? Thanks.
-
If a ping an IP address and get the message "TTL expired in transit", what does it mean? TIA.
-
Certainly it did. Many thanks all of you.

I was looking at both McAfee as well as Symantec web sites and it appears that their AV software is meant only for W2K Professional - is it that W2KServer is immune to Virus or what? Can someone clarify please? TIA.
-
Thanks for your replies. I was looking at their "home" products, not corporate products - that's why the confusion. Cheers.
