Any graphics card with VIVO should work fine - you may be able to pick up something like a cheap ATI AIW card - something a few generations behind the current batch should work okay (I use an AIW 9200 for my HTPC, and haven't had any problems - it's even running without the fan for quietness) Just pipe the output from the STB into the graphics card. There are several programs out there to record from the video input.

Have you also applied the latest update from Microsoft - Windows installer update? Are these problems before or after the update?

I love the smell of spam in the morning...

bprounds & jackal8, I would suggest you go to the nVidia website and download the latest drivers - click here. rlsantana, you may have a dodgy graphics card or monitor cable - does the monitor work with the onboard graphics?

Dual Boot XP Pro and Server 2003 - Alt Problem
AndyFair replied to EyeOfThierry's topic in Everything New Technology
Another thing to consider is whether you gave the XP install the RAID controller drivers (press F6 at the beginning of the install), or whether the new drive is attached to a bog-standard IDE connector, and you let the install sail through. In the latter case, the install wouldn't have seen the RAID setups, and it would have thought the IDE drive was the only drive, and hence written all of the MBR and boot.ini files to that drive. When you restarted the PC, the BIOS looks at the RAID drives and boots from there - not the IDE drive with XP installed on it. If that is the case, you need to restart the install, but load the RAID drivers when prompted and install to the IDE drive - the install program should know about the RAID drives, and hopefully update the boot.ini on that instead. Hope this helps AndyF -
OK, for starters, please only post your question once - multiple postings won't necessarily get your problem solved any quicker. Secondly, calm down and tell us exactly what your problem is in plain English. Are you saying that you can't install DirectX 9.0c in Windows XP SP2? If I remember right, SP2 already includes 9.0c, why would you want to install it again? If your games are complaining about not having 9.0c installed, I would uninstall SP2 and reinstall it. If you're having problems with "The Cabinet cannot be trused" messages, take a look here for a solution. What makes you think you have DirectX 5 installed? As far as I'm aware, Windows XP comes with DirectX 8 as the base version - so there's no way you could have DirectX 5 installed. What it could mean is that you have some very old drivers installed - you may want to make sure that your video card, sound card drivers etc. are upgraded to the latest versions.

Another zombie thread Damn, how do you keep these things down?!

Nope, my day is no different from other days. After all, why should it be? The fact that today is Friday 13th May is just the result of an arbitrary naming system, with the year starting on an arbitrary day, and the number 13 being considered unlucky for arbitrary reasons... I'm going to start campaigning to replace Friday the 13th with Wednesday the 23rd as the unlucky date - and if anybody asks why, all I have to do is ask them for a sensible reason as to why Friday the 13th is considered unlucky Guess I'm feeling argumentative today 8)

Alternatively, if you're using XP or 2000, use the Windows Disk Mangler (Start/Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Computer Management->Storage->Disk Management) Right click the relevant partition, select format. Easier that bothering with command line or other applications!

XP and 2000 both hang during install DFI UT NF3 250GB

Is this in the text or graphical part of the installation? If you've swapped out everything, including RAM and processor, it looks like you may have a fubar'ed motherboard. Have you tried replacing the PSU, just in case it's that which is causing the trouble? -
If you're running an Asus motherboard, I would try the Asus website first Make sure you know exactly which motherboard model you have before flashing the BIOS, though - you could end up with an unusable motherboard otherwise!

You will still be able to run each PC fine, as long as they're all identical. Bear in mind, though, that they'll all have the same serial number, so unless you've got the corporate edition of XP which doesn't need activating, you'll need to change serial numbers before you activate, otherwise you may have problems - I think this is an option in the activation screen?

The memory should be fine, it will just run at the lower speed. No need to make any adjustments anywhere.

Slipstream Windows Server 2003 3-in-1 CD

It also demonstrates how little difference there is between all the different versions of Windows! -
The RAM will run at whichever speed is the lowest of motherboard speed and RAM speed. You should be able to use slower RAM in a motherboard, but it will run at the rated speed of the RAM, not the rated speed of the motherboard.

Warez questions will not be answered here -
As per the previous post, what Service Pack are you using in XP? SP2? Have you tried reinstalling SP2? What happens when you go to Device Manager? Are the USB hubs and ports listed there? Just a few questions. Rgds AndyF

The "asymmetrical" part of ADSL refers to the differing upstream and downstream speeds - SDSL services have the same speed both upstream and downstream. I'm not aware that ADSL is polarity sensitive, maybe you might be able to find something on ADSLGuide that will answer your question. Rgds AndyF

Or turn off the services you don't need - if the services aren't working, then the DLLs shouldn't be loaded.

1) Right click on the folder in Explorer, and select "Make available offline". This will copy the folder to the local drive so when the machine is not logged on to the network, the file is still available (you use the share as though it were connected). Is this the kind of thing you mean? Rgds AndyF

Aaahhhhh, the good old days! We really are a bunch of old fogeys, aren't we? My first computer was a Sinclair ZX81, with the 16k RAM pack, which was liable to fall off just as you were about to finish typing in your program... Then upgraded to a Sinclair Spectrum (Manic Miner rocked!), then a C64. I have fond memories of the C64 - spent far too much time programming (in assembler, not BASIC), writing games (didn't get published though). I had all of the weird and wonderful programs that the 64 seemed to gather about it, including the one that made the 1541 disk drive play "Daisy, Daisy" by banging its heads against the stops... Then upgraded to an Amiga, but didn't really get back into computing until my postgrad degree, when I got a 486-DX2 (and laughed at friends who only had vanilla 486-DX's). That was really the start of the slippery slope, and I've had a succession of bought, upgraded and self-built PCs ever since - and I've got 5 in my home today, performing various tasks!

Still looking up information on Acronis, I see An interesting site, but not wholly useful - if I'm going to use something other than Google, I prefer a proper metasearch site, like Clusty - I like the way it groups your search into categories. Still doesn't search as many sites as Google, though

Installing Windows 2000 on a newly Fdisk'ed Hard Drive

You might have a bad stick of RAM - do a thorough test with memtest, which will pick up on any problems. -
