Hullo - I have just installed Windows XP on to a Gigabyte GA-6BXD motherboard. There are technet articles relating to choosing a non-a ACPI hal, which I chose. Perhaps it was silly of me, but I now have an MPS Multiprocessor Computer system without USB or software off. I know these are minor grumbles of an excellent OS (and it is good), but could any one shed any light on how to get both of these back? Does the latest BIOS update - the beta F4? (I am running F2, enough for Windows 2000) work? My PC is a : GA-6BXD, Dual 550, GeForce 256 DDR, SB Live!, Netgear FA310, SCSI card, Matrox PCI 450, Dxr3. Many thanks! Nick. That I can agree with. However, I went the old way, updated to F3, and XP Pro installed without a hitch, ACPI, USB, the whole caboodle working cheerfully! Many thanks for your advice! Nick

I did, (want to isntall as ACPI, that is), however, my installation failed entirely at the Setup is Starting windows bit (article Q310760) and I was forced to follow the instructions: I tried removing the SCSI card first, and nothing changed, therefore tried the Forcing Kernel, which worked. I upgraded my BIOS before, and have forgotten how, and gigabyte have two BIOS flashing utilities. Which would you use, and why? My thanks, Nick

I have installed the NT Compatible V2 drivers (whihc work), but have the unfortunate problem of them only using 1 v2 when in my user account, but using both when in the administrator account (The account they were installed under) It's a minor point, but if someone could help, please emil me at nick.kirby@freeuk.com Cheers!

I have an odd problem with my Windows 2000 system. On my other system, I installed a Mirai CD-rw with easy cd creator 5 platinum. without reading the help files, it's apparent system failure lead me to think the PC had crashed, irreparably. In a panic, I physically moved the disk into my other windows 2000 machine, and copied all the files from that, into the admnisitrator account of that system. While (after a little effort) I got the main system to boot, and the files, directorie were present and correct, and subsequently burnt to CD. I then copied (right click copy) the files from the admin account into the user account (while logged in as admin - it can't be don the toher way as user has no access to admin). When re logging in as a power user, my standard account, the system reports an error saying I cannot access the files. I have checked all the permissions, have ensured the login is the owner of the "my documents" folder and have given inhertibable permissions on the top level folder containing the desktop, cookies etc folder, but it still produces access denied messages. I can, however, create files inside of the my documents folder, so i ahve all the appropriate permissions on the structure, but perhaps not the folders themselves? I am flumoxed. Could someone point me in the right direction? Many thanks, Nick
