    New motherboard, HD won't boot!!!

One of my older computer's power supply failed a few weeks back. While buying a new case, I decided to upgrade the motherboard as well. I was thinking that if I just transfer everything from the old motherboard to the new one (i.e. processor, memory, cards, and drives) everything will be fine. However, after I installed the new board, my hard disk won't boot up. Everything else seems to be working fine. My computer can boot from the floppy and CD ROM, but it can't seem to access the hard disk. I get a boot disk error message. I tried changing the jumper setting between cable select and master, but neither seems to make a difference. The BIOS does detect the HD as the primary master. And I'm sure both the IDE cable and power cable are fine. Does anyone have any idea on how to fix this problem? I backed up everything before I switched motherboards, so I guess I can reinstall Win2k. However, I would really like to restore my old system. My new motherboard is an Abit VH6T running on a PIII 733 CPU.
  4. I just got an HP burner which came with an HP CD writer software plus Easy CD Creator. HP put the CD writer application icon in the system tray and there's no option in the software to remove it. It's also not in the Startup folder. What can I do in Win2k to control what gets loaded into the system tray? Thanks. Jason
  5. I have a fairly new Buslink CD Burner for sale. It's a rebadged Lite On 12/10/32 drive with Burn-Proof technology. The drive is about two months old and I only used it a few times. I just got a faster HP burner so I want to sell the Buslink. I have all the original documents and drivers plus Easy CD Creator 4.0 and DirectCD. I am asking $80 + shipping charges. Jason

    Slow CD Access

I'm running Win2k and my system slows down to a crawling pace when I try to read a CD. When I put the CD in the CD-ROM, it takes almost a minute for Windows Explorer to read the CD. I've tried three different CD drives (two 40x and one 32x) and they all behave the same way. The IDE transfer is set to DMA if possible. Anyone have an idea about what's going on and how to fix it? Thanks. Jason

    Need cheap CD Burner...suggestions

I have a Buslink/Lite On 12/10/32x CD burner for sale. It's about two months old and I only used it a few times. This is a pretty nice burner with Burn-Proof technology. I just got a 16/10/40 HP so I want to get rid of the Buslink. If anyone reading this thread is interested, I'll sell it for $80 + shipping. Jason

    C&C Red Alert

Is there any way to change the resolution of the game? When I run RASETUP, I only get 640 x 400 or 640 x 480 options. I have a Diamond Viper II, so I should get higher resolution than that.

Trouble with EA Sports F1 200

Has anyone played EA Sports F1 2000? I tried to run it on win2k1; the game starts fine and lets me select the driver and track. However, when it tries to load the race, the program simply quits. I aslo tried to run the game under compatibility mode, but it still doesn't work. I'd appreciate any help you can give me. Jason

Installing 95/98 games with compatibility update

I installed the compatibility update, but I didn't see any application files created. What file do I make a shortcut of? Jason
  12. I'm sure this forum has talked about using the Application Compatibility Update to trick the software into thinking that Win2k is either 95, 98 or NT. However, I installed the lastest compatibility update, but can't do what the Win2k FAQ talked about. I'm trying to install Need for Speed 3 and the installation program checks if the system is either 95 or 98. If it's neither, then installation quits. I was thinking about using the Compatibility Update to get through the installation. However, when I right click on the setup program and go to properties, I do not see any place to change the OS setting. Please help me out. Thanks! Jason
