W2K Boot up time - is 60 seconds short or long ? seems like
illusionist replied to David here's topic in Software
Well after reading the replies to this post curiosity got the better of me and I shutdown and timed my start up. A few things have come to my attention. 1) My start up complete came to 2 min 29 sec. 2) 60 seconds would be like the jump to light speed for me 3) I can get a coffee , newspaper from the corner variety store, and learn to play "Rapsody in Blue" during my boot time. 4) and yes you could become an alchoholic..........Burrrp! Sorry must go; I'm going to reboot now and during the process find the nearest AA chapter. -
I have a question that I'm sure one of you ( in your infinite wisdom ;nudge nudge wink wink ......nice butt kissing don't you think ) could answer. I would like to create a shortcut on my desktop to allow me to clear my cache a will . ( I know , this is an ultimate power that in the wrong hands could lead to world domination but for once please please let me play GOD ) Tell me now , Is there a way , great computer gods. lol ilusionist

hey thanx 4 the r3plI C4rd1n4L Enough of that .... what I would truly enjoy is a way to clear all the #$%@ that gets my system clogged up during a normal day . I would like to clear out all the stuff MS ( in their infinite wisdom ) has desided to hold in reserve in my system ;for what ever reason , and delete it at the touch of a keystroke. Like creating a batch file that says ,,,,,all this **** is crap , put it here .. and delete the f$#@!^. Again thanks in advance illusionist

Thanks again guys. I went out and purchased 2 simple programs . The first , try to hold your laughter to a dull roar , was CAD3D by Expert softawre and the second ( about and hour later) was Autodesks QuickCAD version 7 . Both totaled $86.00 CDN . I wanted to download the free copy that clutch recomended but there was only the option of receiving a cd copy via the mail. That could take forever. Anyways I filled out the forms and will wait to see what it is like when it comes in. Sincerely illusionist

Just searched for Cadkey and well it took me a while to get back on my chair. ............$2,195.00 US. Ouch , now I know why you asked about how much I wanted to spend. Not the product I need at this time but if this client pans out I'd just hire an outside cad person on a per job basis. Right now I just want to have a simple program to draw a few different shapes . I can do a line drawing with a paint program but it takes forever and when I try to draw a simple rectangular box I can't seem to get the angles quite right. I checked out the sites mentioned by clutch . They do offer a free version that I will try. Thanks again.

First off thanks clutch and JMD. I don't really want to spend a lot of money as I've found the more expensive the program the larger and harder the program is to learn ( with all the additional features ) . The program would be used on a continued basis but not very often. I would just like to show a client what his display unit would look like in a more professional manner, as opposed to my hand drawn sketches. I would like to be able to view the display unit as a wire model and then as a solid finished product with colour. the units that I would design would be small and simple (ie: small oval 12"high stage 6' round or a display center for small products.) I'm affraid though that what I'm asking for is going to get me into a high learning curve product . I would sooner sell and build the product which in turn creates revenue than spend endless hours reading manuals after every click of the mouse. Anyways thanks for the input and I will check those sites. illusionist

Hey Psycosword You know that it will not happen to you because if you had trouble in your blood you would be doing something like that by now. It's the little nobs that have low esteem, family problems, few real friends or family that take a true interest in what they are saying that makes them take pleasure in creating havoc for others. " if your not happy why should others be attitude " . I heard it from my Dad when I was a kid even before comps ; just in a diff manner. The probs don't change with generations only the delivery method changes. Technology can save us or end it for us all!

Yeah it really is getting silly and the way peeps are being pulled into getting comps for web surfing ( lol ) the corporations need to make larger strides into protecting the masses. Otherwise the web tv boxes and consoles will replace all the potential new comp peeps. Which in turn will degrade the entire computer industry. The Hackers are killing their own kind ( a slow death ) but like with anything else the idiots will remain idiots.

Just a quick question. On one of my systems running win2k sp1 I have the tab that has the save , print , send, and file pictures just hanging around on the top left corner of my desktop. It's the same tab that pops up when you move your mouse over a picture. Any idea how to get rid of it. If I move my mouse over the disk image the tab disappears and then returns when i remove the mouse. Thanks in advance

Guess what? I tried to do what you said and then restarted and it worked. I guess I didn't restart the other time. Thanks again.

Heres the poop. I was asked if one could install a new , clean copy of win2k using an upgrade disk. The answer is yes* * = 2 cd drives on your system. If you have 2 cd drives then you only need to direct the question of "where is the prior windows installation " to the cd drive that you have the win98 cd in. So if I want to do an install , clean , win2k from an upgrade disk , from a fdisd , formatted HD , I only need to insert a win98 CD into my e,f,g, what ever drive and direct the upgrade disk to detect that CD. No one could tell me this when I asked if it could be done.....So I tried it and hey what .............No Sh*&. So enjoy if you didn't know. Illusionist

Hi! I have some questions that I hope someone can help me with.. 1) I have installed IE6 and Win2k and am wondering; where all the files are located for storing Internet browser locations? The reason I ask is because I was in yahoo sports and was somehow directed to a **** site which then proceeded to open about a million other windows. After about 3 years I managed to get them all closed ( hehe ) but now and again I get directed back in one or more. I have gone into C:\docs&settings\user and deleted all the files and cookies but still this occurs. The file in the cookies folder named index cannot be removed and I wonder if the records of those sites are in there. Also in the Local Settings folder under temp are 2 files called ~DF7753.tmp & ~DFC04D.tmp that can’t be removed. I would like to get rid of this problem as it can pop up at an inopportune time. For that matter is there a way to completely remove records of Internet browsing each time you log off. ( I know that there is that option in the check boxes in tools but it doesn’t delete cookies , temp & history files ) To me it’s like spying. 2) The next question is this. During logging on to sites like yahoo sports I’ll have friends come over and log in their weekly picks or the kids will have a LAN party and login their passwords. When WinDOAHs! Asks you if you would like to remember the password and you answer yes, where is that file ( record ) kept? I would like to edit the file so that only my passwords are in the dropdown boxes. 3) I was wondering if I can reinstall IE5 over IE6? It seems that since I installed IE6 when I try to get to a site about 50% of the time I now get page not available. Its almost like the program didn’t even try to find it because the message almost comes up immediately. 4) A friend placed a certain picture as my desktop as a joke. I removed it but now at start up it displays that picture for about 10 seconds and I don’t know how to get rid of it permanently. I have even deleted it but its still there. Just as I was waiting for my reply to activate this account I went to log into DSL Reports and was again redirected to a site that’s starts out with the heading: “ Drunk , naked and 18 “ You can see my problem. Thanks in advance Illusionist If you want to email me any answers please send them to : yopickupthephone@hotmail.com-nospam

With respect to MS knowing more about whos using their software ask yourself this. With the recent court events do you think that MS would actually be that obvious about unlawful invation of your personal computer and stealing your information. They would be shut down in a heart beat. And what if I own a portable with all legal software and at my home I login to the net , MS pings me and says this comp @ blahblah ip address uses win2k serial # 1234567890. Then I get a new HD and go out of town on business. At the new location I log on to the net. MS pings me and says this comp has different hardware and the same serial # . PIRATE PIRATE send out the FEDS. I get a new modem from this divisions office and fly back to my company. I log on to the net there and MS pings me again just as the FEDS break down my office door. LMAO! Because I look like a guy Who uses 3 copys of win2k. I don't think so.
