Im still getting used to the Win2k environment but I never ventured into the serving aspects of the OS yet. When I used Win98 I used to run ServU as a FTP host. Now that Im in a pure Win2K environment I need a new way to run an FTP service. So here are my questions: 1)How do I run a Win2K FTP? What services do I need to start? How do I manage the FTP (users, connections, passwords, directories, etc.). 2)Are there any other FTP programs for Win2K that are more flexible than the OS FTP?

I heard that it might have something to do with permissions. This is not certain yet. I have windows on NTFS and many other FAT32 partitions as well so each partition also has its own recycle dir but not all the drives can have permissions since not all of them are NTFS. Still working on it! In the mean time, use your recycle bin to hide files! No one will check a 'empty' recycle bin for files!

My recycle bin icon dosen't change when the bin has something in it. Its always showing the empty icon even if there are files in it. I have checked the icon settings for the recycle bin and they are correct with different icons for both states. This is common to all users and does not go away after restarting/logging off etc.

Its working now for me. I didn't do anything except restart the comp a few times. It didn't work after the first restart either so Im puzzled, but at least now it works the way it should have been working.

I just installed the adaptec aspi drivers (v. 4.60) and I ran the aspi check prog and it says I have all the right files and the latest version but it also gives me an error saying it failed to initialize the aspi layer. CDRWin also fails to initialize the aspi layer manager as well. I was playing around with my services the other day with the help of a guide from 3dspotlight.com so Im thinking it might be one of the services screwing it up but I dont know which one.

Newbie here. How can I setup my accounts so that they relect any changes I make as admin and certain power users? Im tired of installing/setting up software as admin and not having those progs in the power users start menu and not having the same settings I took forever to setup.

well...my 3D under 2K hasn't been that bad. HL runs flawlessly (albeit a simple game by todays standards) and 3DMark2k1 gets about the same score as I did under Win98...well a few points lower. Still if it is the Drivers that are f'ing up my playback then Im pissed. ATI's Win9x drivers are shakey by my standards, if the 2k drivers are truely worse then ATI needs to spend less on Canadian Beer (as good as it is) and put that $$$ into driver development + manufacturing* + engineering. *2 of my Radeons blew up already and I didn't even OC them...yet.

I just installed Win2K pro and Im not as familiar with it as Im with 9x. Soon after I got the drivers and accounts setup I went on to test out DVD playback. It is horrible. Both the video and sound are choppy to the point where the DVD is unwatchable. Here are my specs: P3 700 384MB ram ATI Radeon 64MB VIVO with driver version 5.13.1.3205 Vortex2 Ref sound with driver version 5.12.1.2559 ATI DVD player 4.1 (latest) AOpen (Pioneer Repack) 6x DVD drive Win2K Pro + SP2 Here is what I have done so far with no luck: First off the DVD drive is on its own IDE channel as master with no slave. I have set both my IDE channels to "DMA if avaliable". I have reduced my audio hardware acceleration. I have tried playing in both admin and power user accounts if that make any diff =P. WIth my system spec, I should be fine doing all the decoding in software, even with ATI hardware decoding the playback blows. I have also tried the windows dvdplay.exe player and that also stutters just as much. I know my hardware is good because I had no probs with playback under win98. Im thinking it might be my soundcard but I also turned off audio hardware acceleration and it still didn't work. Any thoughts? I know there has to be hordes of ppl who watch DVDs under 2K.
