    Connection to Internet goes dead

It doesn't sound the same problem as what I am having though. Like I said, my other shared computer still is working on the internet when the host machine (the one that is physically connected) isn't, so obviously it's nothing to do with the modem. Also it's never happened after a short period of time of being on the internet. So far it's been quite a few hours. To me it seems like it might be tied to the tcp/ip protocol. Can anyone think why the tcp/ip protocol might be going dead after a few hours? ----- Quote: Ok, I had this same problem when the internet connection went dead after 20 seconds. What kind of modem do you have? If you have a Lucent 56k based chipset modem you will get this problem on some motherboards and some OSes. Usually Abit motherboards get this problem, especially under newer OSes like Windows Millennium and Windows 2000. Send some specifics, and check out the forums here: http://www.56k.com/

    Connection to Internet goes dead

Hope someone can help me on this. I'm using Win 2k. At any unspecific time, my (tcp/ip) connection to the internet goes dead, however the modem remains connected. This happens just at any time, but usually only once or twice a day. It's just business as usual and suddenly, no web pages, no email, nothing. Here's the wierd part, only the other computer (the one that is shared to the internet)works on the internet!!!!!!!!!! So the computer I use to dial to the internet goes dead with internet activity, but the shared one still works! Only a reboot will get the main one going again. Need help! Thanks Gary

New SB Live driver for XP

Using the fix by j_sklar was successful, however I had some issues to address during the 'install' of the fix. I thought I'd share them with you. 1. Make sure you do not have the Windows XP CD in any drives. 2. When asked for the XP CD choose 'Cancel' and 'Yes - use unverified files. 3. Make sure you are not connected to the internet at any time during the process. 4. Once you have done the final reboot and completed the process, choose to update the SBLIVE/SBLIVE VALUE (WDM) driver, and let it download the latest one off the internet by choosing 'specify location' and unticking 'media locations/browse'. Hope this helps.

Need for Speed - High Stakes

Using other information found on this site I have been able to successfully run NFS HS, however It will only run if I use the ASUS Geforce 2 MX drivers. If I use the Nvidia drivers it simply quits back to the desktop after a few seconds when running NFS HS. Due to problems with the ASUS drivers I am using the Nvidia ones. Any idea on why it will run with the ASUS ones and not the Nvidia ones? I did have to modify the registry and change "Group" and "thrash driver" to "d3d" on the ASUS ones, but that modification doesn't have any effect on the Nvidia drivers. Any ideas? Regards, Gary
