well i payed a buttload for this driver a while back and it says ata100 on the box. I WANT IT TO WORK! How do I get it to work? It has to others are using it at ata100.

I don't know if it is hardware related but I will tell you anyway. After running Win2k Server for a while on my server, trying to go in and do things it gets EXTREMELY UNRESPONSIVE! I am not sure if it is a memory leak or what the problem is. I do have a lot of server programs running but there is plenty of free memory. Accoring to Mem Turbo though. Here is my Server config. Keep in mind this is a server I built from scrach, and am in the process of upgrading it. Tyan Trinity K7 mainboard Intel Pentium 233MMX @ 200 (damn MB wont let it any higher!) (Will be AMD K6-2 500MHz or 533 or 550 soon!) 160MB PC-100 SDRAM (2 64MB PC-100 and a 32MB, not sure if PC-100, its old TI memory, but its SDRAM from a Sony PCV-150) El-Lamo Savage 4 8MB AGP 4X Video Intel Pro/DSL 2100 Modem D-Link DFE-530 TX+ Running programs: BulletProof FTP Server v2.15 ICQ GroupWare Server Remote Administrator V2.0 OmniHTTPd Professional MemTurbo (average of 100MB free after "Scrubbing RAM" on startup So I am not sure exactly what is wrong here. But I end up restarting the damn thing because I don't want to wait for it when I need to alter something. Any help appreciated. Thank you.

It did that before mem turbo! actually mem turbo makes it last longer before it does it. it hasnt done it since i just installed mem turbo, i think that may have fixed it musta been a mem leak

Well I ran the utility from the floppy disk to install ATA100. And it says it doesnt have ATA100! Or 66!!! WTF!?!? What is wrong? How come I cannot install ATA100?

Yeah I think you are right on. They have them too. I don't have a floppy drive installed on my comp, and don't want to install one. I am going to go to the WD site and see if I can't get the install disk drivers. Thanks again.

This is'nt really completely hardware related but this seemed the most appropiate location for it. And there are a lot of posters in here so I will most likely get a response faster. Heres the deal. I have Drive C, drive C was reformatted. For reasons I can state later. It has Windows ME on it and Win2k (a reinstall). Both working fine. I also have Drive D. Has my original Win2k install, and was originally installed on D. The boot.ini (boot loader) has made my Drive C Win2k the default. I want my Drive D Win2k default. I know it still works cause I got into it now. But if I change the default OS (win2k) (same dir names) to partition 2 (drive D) from partition 1 (drive c) it does not work. So I have to keep default OS partition 1 (drive c) win2k active. And change to the other Win2k if I want the one I want (which I want default). Following me here? I hope so. Good. How do I do it so I don't get the blue screen? Do I have to slightly rewrite the boot loader? Here is my boot loader now. It has my drive c win2k not default and my drive d one default, the way I want it, but it doesnt work. If you know how to fix it go ahead. Or tell me. Thanks!!!! I really appreciate it. From his recent thread start. I had an intriuging idea. I don't know if it will work or even can. But... Could you take 2 switches, and two network cards. And 2 NICs in each comp on the network. And run both as a multi-link type of thing? Combining the speed of two switches together and the speed of two NICs together. Would this work or can even be done? I know its far off base for the switches. You can do this with modems I kow. Can it be done with NICs? How about switches/hubs? Hehe sorry I though it was a good idea...

Ahhh yes, but can't do it now. Was just an idea. Don't have the money. Not worth the money either at this point. Man that sucks! Cable taped! LOL! Idiots! Better yet why don't they just staple it! LOL sorry.

Hmm well there is something about it. But I don't think it's anything to worry about. Well I like the WD drives. They are very reliable as far as I am concerned. I have used Quantum drives, and I had lots of problems with them like spinning down for no reason and hardware damage. I used Maxtor, POSs died after 6 months to a year. Every friend I know that has had a Maxtor it ended up dieing after a while. I don't think any of them lasted over 2 years at all. They are just cheap material I believe. But I have never had any hardware problems with WD like spin down, HD damage, or data loss for no reason. I like WD so I am sticking with them. Now I have never used IBM. Although I hear they are very good as well and a lot like WD. I will need to try them some day.

Yeah I figured that... But it's just an idea, dont need to take it to an extreme conversation. I bet though if you put a little money, and time into it it could be done. And I think it would be quite impressive. Don't you?

Hmmm. Yeah I have that disk but I though I enabled ATA100 when I transfered the data from my previous HD to my new one. I will check again though good idea! And yes I have defraged the drive, 2 days ago as a matter of fact. Usually do about every 3 months or so or have a program do it for me when I'm not using it. But even if the drive was fragmented, it would not greatly slow it down. Especially for benchmarks sense SiSoft Sandra creates it's own cache file (which would be defragmented anyway, for the most part, unless it had to jump over clusters)

DAMN IT! I checked everything you told me and it is the way it should be. Still getting sub 66 speeds around 50 I think.

I need to create more partitions on my hard drive. Without destroying the data. Partition Magic is NOT WORKING on my system and I need a program that will work. Anyone know/have of any?

I understand. I once had PM phuk everything up and I was pissed off at it my self. But there is no other program with this much power. Best thing to do is backup everything completely before you do any outside conversions without using Windows built-in converting system. Even that could screw up I can imagine. I'm not sure how but going from NTFS back to FAT32 worked fine and everything is great now. I am satisfied.

Hmm interesting. So what do I need to do? Maybe you can run a program installation that you know has 16-bit, then cancle it. Thanks for responding. I was getting worried.

Well I think there is special software to take the packets and split them into 2 smaller packets and 1 goes to 1 nic and one goes to another. I know this can be done. But I wanna see if two switches can be used as 1 with twice the throughput. Like RAID 0. Data stripping takes the data and it is split and part goes to on HD and the other goes to another HD. Kind of like that?

Well yeah... But my other PCs don't do that. And none have the WOL cable on. Which is VERY wierd. And Yes I am sure. And I also know how a LED works, a LED is a light emitting diode. Just doesn't make sense how it is on if the PC is not on. Maybe there is something I have overlooked. But I was just curious, this isn't a serious issue. Nor needs technical support lol.

Ok SP1 and SP2 are installed. Setings in Advanced Options for DMA are ON Using proper Ribbon IDE cable So I went through everything. All I need is to check for drivers. I will now do that. And if that doesnt fix it I will come back here.

Well it worked! NTFS to FAT32 with PM6. Worked fine. 40GB Drive, quite large and it worked fine. ALthough I have seen things go wrong with PM.
