HELP PLEASE! Trying to make program a service
HELLBRINGER replied to HELLBRINGER's topic in Software
Yeah I already understood that though just didnt clarify it. When I think about it I understand it better. But there are multiple DNS servers right? Thats where I get confused. Each ISP has their own DNS serer right? Cause I noticed... That when I change my ip and tell register.com's DNS servers what my new ip is. My local ISP (Qwest.net) gets updated before my friends Micron ISP and AOL ISP get updated. They all get updated at different times, because each ISP has their own DNS server right? But I only have to tell the master DNS server, (the one with all my info on it, and the one I update if my ip changes) that I have to update. But anyway... I got an idea of all that now. I just need to make my dial-up DSL connection able to dial up without being logged on. Like being a service. But this program will only do exe's. How do I get my connection startup program to be an exe? Can I tell this program to load a connection in my network connections? Thank you. -
Good idea. I will go do that now and come back if I cannot fix the problem. I forget that that thing is there, very convienent really. Thanks.

Huh? I didnt get what you are saying. I want it in my LAN only. I only want to instant message chat with people inside my LAN. I just cant get the server to start on my server. The ICQ server will start on my personal system, but not on my server. And I want it on my server because it is on 24/7 unlike my system. But there must be a service, or something on my server not allowing the ICQ server to run. I turned off the firewall but that is not the problem. I allowed Zone Alarm (my firewall) to let ICQ be a server. This is ICQ GroupWare Server. Not ICQ it self, just the server. The client ICQ Groupware is on all other workstations through out the LAN. The server will work on my computer, just not the server. But I need it on the server, not my computer. Thank you. Michael Gregory.

Cool. So you have a dynamic ip address? Well where I update register.com is a cgi browser based update. How can I update info on their server without a browser? Know what I mean? It's like checking your mail online on a service that only allows browser mail checking and not pop3. That's similar if you know what I mean. So can this ip forwarding system work for me? The only problem is. Doesnt it take servers 24-72 hours to update to the change? I dont completely understand it but I have a jist of it. I am doing all I can do. Any other ideas helpful. Lets see if we cant get more on this idea though I like it so far. Thanks. -

Yeah well I connect to my DSL through the Windows Dial-Up Connections thing. That works but it is not an exe I dont think so I cannot get it to work. Do you have any ideas there? And it's kind of hard to explain. Register.com is where I registered my domain name megabytemike.com. I am hosting my website for use with megabytemike.com on my server at home with my DSL. My DSL uses a dynamic ip address. I would like to get a static ip so I don't have to change the ip on register.com's DNS servers every time my ip changes. Unfortinatly I cannot afford a static ip as it requires I upgrade my connection from my $50 a month now to a $110 a month. Which I cannot afford now. So I am stuck with a dynamic ip. I have heard of these ip forwarding systems. Although I do not completely understand how they work. Would you be as so kind to explain it to me? I thank you for your help, you have been very helpful so far. Thank you. I look forward to a response from you soon. Michael Gregory (HELLBRINGER) -
Ok the program works, and seems like it will work great. Just one problem. The program I want to start outside of being logged in is a dial-up connection. In other words. I want my DSL dial-up connection in my network folder in the start menu to start up as a service. So I don't have to log in for the DSL like to log in. This was if the server is restarted, and I am not there to log it in, the DSL will go online anyway. That way others at my house can access the Internet without having to go and login to the server and logon the DSL line. See what I am tring to do? So can I make this an exe? Or how should I do this? If it cant be done with normallity. Can I make a program or download a program that will be exe and dial-up an connection? Thanks for the help everyone I appreciate it during this difficult time.

I was wondering. If you can make Win2k Server allow an administrator to give the computer a password and user name to install a program in an user account. So that way I don't have to login as an admin and quit all the current running programs. I know you can do this in Win2k Pro, it will let you install a program in an user account with permission of an admin, but it wont let you in Server. Can I turn this feature on?

Wierd question, seems like a prank to me. Does the mean anything? Hmmmm... ?

Ok I will try that right now thank you.

Still doing the same thing. I have even restarted the system, and restarted. I saw somewhere on the ICQ forums about something about SMS 2.0. What is this and can I use it to fix my problem?

I have seen some people can make services but I cannot figure out how to do it? Does anyone know? -
It is not corrupted and there is no damage. And a scan disk as ran everyday in Windows on my server. So why have it at start up? It's just a waste of time and quite annoying. How do you turn it off?
-
Ok well I am using it as server. And I don't want admin account with no password to auto login because I dont want an insecure access to an admin account. I will check out Tweak UI though I think that will work now that I think about it. Thanks guys!

How do you make your own service? I have been trying to find this out for weeks! Let me know. Thanks.

LOL nope... But you can install install 98 first, then do clean install upgrade for Win2k. And have dual boot. Are you trying to rid of Win2k? Or do you want to keep it? I don't think there is an easy way to do this.
