The sam file in the repair folder, does it contain all my accounts? If I copy it over the sam file in the root/system32/config/ will I still be able to use the Administrator account? The password was about 43 characters BTW... I don't think anything can crack that... Is there anything that can?
-
Oh yes the sam file I remember that. But doesn't that contain encrypted passwords? I assume there is likley a way to crack that as I have heard of it being done. Now that I think about it, I can take the drive out, put it my comp (since it is a NTFS partition), and get the sam file. I do know the password when I installed the OS. So how exactly do I get into my server once I have the sam file? Thanks, going to get the same file now...
-
Its numeric... Only numbers. I don't know what I could of chaged it to. I have been in it a few times after I changed it, and I remember the password, it's just not working now. I hope someone doesnt have a key reader and changed it later. So I am assuming there is nothing I can do? I will have to reformat? I was trying to use my account to get in since my username is an admin, but it was not working either. Kind of angering me because I need to get to the server.

I am having a workstation, with a CD-RW on it, having the task at 3am every night, to copy data from a server to the local hard drive. And then I want it to write to a CD. I got the batch for copying the files working fine, and set in the scheduled tasks to run every night. That works fine. Now I need to somehow find a way to have that data written to a CD. Is there a program that can do this? All it needs to do is write files from a folder on the local hard drive (on the workstation) to a CD every night. Via shedueled tasks if possible. This way, all they have to do is take the CD out (it has been written) when they get there in the morning, and put another writable CD in. Then after everyone goes home, at 3am it copies the data from the server to the local HD again, and later writes another CD. Every night. We will colllect up to about 2 weeks of CDs written from the server, and then recycle them (they are rewritable). In other words, remove the data, and use as fresh CDs. Quite simple, right... So is what I need is a program that can do this... Quite frankly.

batch job copy files from server, then... write to CD?
HELLBRINGER replied to HELLBRINGER's topic in Networking
huh? I don't understand what you are trying to say. I want a program, that can run by it self, without any interaction, take data from a specific location on the local hard drive, and write it to CD. Simple as that. Is there a program that does that? -
I would like to choose where Windows puts my offline files. Where and how can I do this? Thank you.

HELLBRINGER replied to valery's topic in Hardware
Yeah I had this problem too when I got a CTX LCD monitor... I had to go download a patch... I believe I got it from Nvidia.com website. I'd go look and see if you can't get it. -

Well I had my computer off my network and at a friends house for 3 days this week. Everything worked fine I just reconfigured the network settings. I bring it back home today and plug everything back up. Boots fine and WORKS fine. Later in the evening I come back to my machine and wanted to physically move it a few feet back, should cause no problem at all, done it a million times. It shut it self off for NO apparent reason. So I fiddled with the power switch and unplugged it, flipped the switch on the PSU, etc. etc... Finally it turns back on, then turns off again after about 2 seconds. So I fiddle with it more. Finally, it boots and stays on, I move it where I want it. Ok... everything is fine now, wrong. It starts to start up Windows XP Pro and then it freezes, completely, for no apparent reason. So I reboot and go to Win98, works fine. So I figure maybe something got messed up. I replace my drive C files with an image with Norton Ghost from a backup I made a week ago. Finally it gets done and I boot thinking it will work. Still will not work. I am not sure what is wrong. It was working fine earlier until I touched it... I am curious as to maybe the HD got damaged or something, but I restored the image and it worked fine no errors. For some reason it will not boot it just freezes. I am in safemode now with networking. This seems to work fine it's just ugly as hell. Can someone help me out here? I am not sure what the problem is... System configuration: Microsoft Windows XP Professional and Microsoft Windows 98 SE dual boot on partition 1 (C Epox EP-8KTA3 AMD Duron 800 @ 1000 (for 7 months, works great, rock solid) 256MB PC-133 Crucial/Micron memory Hurcules/Gullimont GeForce 2 MX w/32MB RAM (latest XP drivers installed both OS's) D-Link DE-530 TX+ 100MBPS NIC Sound Blaster Live! I have had this system for 7 months since I built it in the summer. It was worked great since then. Typical windows problems, but I get by them. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance!!!

XP freezes in boot, but goes in safemode, no apparent reason
HELLBRINGER replied to HELLBRINGER's topic in Hardware
Well after hours of pain and agony I have found the problem. I started removing cards and devices from my computer until something different happened. I started by taking the clock speed of my CPU back to default 800. Nothing, then the video, nic, and then the sound card. Bingo! It works. The sound card was causing it not to boot? Weird. I have always had problems with this sound card. Now that I know what the problem is I am going to probably buy a new sound card. Well that was the problem. Heh? you were way off! LOL J/K. But thanks for all your help everyone! -

You bet your *** I did. I am not an armature; I've had my fair share of computer adventures in my time. Heh. I cleaned out the entire system, removing cards, cables, and re setting them in position. I even got the old can of compressed air. I also cleaned out everything so well it shines in fact. I can't seem to find the problem. The system appears perfect. It is still exceptionally stable, I just got done playing a 30 minute game of Q3 in Win98 with about 12 bots and my graphics high as hell, as usual, worked great. I have no clue what the problem is. I don't want to have to reformat this SOB because I have put a lot of time into configuring the system EXACTLY how I want it. You know how that goes... That’s why I used my backup image thinking maybe it was just a file or something got screwed up. Still does the same thing. The problem is weird though; let me explain more in depth. When WinXP is booting nearly 3/4 way through the screen will flash to the blue background typical for login and continue loading, within a few seconds it will load up and go to the login screen. I have seen this a million times, but most peculiarly, it freezes right after the screen flashes, then the 3 little blue status bars stop, and wont move, the system is unresponsive. I have let it sit for about 20 minutes it did nothing. I have shut down the system for nearly 15 minutes (sometimes the simplest thing will fix a prob) but still nothing. I have gone through everything I can think of and am killing my self here. Got any more ideas? I'd really hate to reformat... and still there is no guarantee it will work. -
Domain Controller... Not receiving data over LAN!!! HELP PLE
HELLBRINGER posted a topic in Networking
I am having a major problem here and am not exactly sure as to what the problem is. My server is: ECS K7S5A AMD Duron 750 512MB PC-133 WD 13.3GB ATA-100 Savage 4 Video SiS 900 NIC Windows 2000 Server I don't think the problem is hardware related. But the server is a Primary Domain Contoller with Active Directory. It's DNS appears to be working fine. When I check the status of the LAN connection it is sending data, but NOT receiving any. It is at 0. Why sent data just moves along. When browsing the network from any network machine that was on the domain and should be, they show the server, but you can't access it. When browsing the network from the server it self, only it self is shown in the domain. What is the problem here? Thank you in advance. Sincerely, Michael 'HELLBRINGER' Gregory -

Bah... it was a stupid confidence mistake... I now lower my confidence in my self. LOL -
WTF I am trying to apply attributes and I get this message saying the RPC Server is too busy to complete the operation. But the server has nothing to do except be PDC (Primary Domain Controller) and serve files... What is the problem here it is very frustrating?

Domain Controller... Not receiving data over LAN!!! HELP PLE
HELLBRINGER replied to HELLBRINGER's topic in Networking
Well after total frustration and confusion I did MASSIVE checks on the layer 1 part of the network. Finding out that the cable I was using, and the 2 others I had all had bad receive wires. Seems they were ripped or something according to the cable tester. So I will return the cables to where I bought them and make my own for now on. But that is fixed now. Sorry for all the trouble. And thanks for your help Clutch... I appreciate it. Even though I usually figure it out in the long run anyway. -
