Unable to load Open GL subsystem for Return to Castle Wolfen
JP- replied to fleetwood77's topic in Games
Think ill stick my old s3 virge card back in, i know it didnt work with the 23.11s but ill try it with the 27.20s and see how it goes. -
Yeah i didnt really mind it being 1x, i mean the board was 100% stable other than that, and it managed a run of 3dmark with it set to 2x so i was happy.

Maybe Nforce is what they need if i needed an AMD chip right now, id go for mr.nforce btw, the original amd chipset for the athlon, the 750/751 irongate 8) officially stated 2x agp but there was a bug that made it totally unstable if you actually used it, so in practice it was only a 1x board. Its what i used a while back.

Well when i had my amd systems i was probably about the most anti-intel person you could have met, but having actually owned some intel systems now, including this 1 i realise all the unnecessary work i had to put into the amd systems to get them working, and it really wasnt worth it. My entire system setup consisted of the following buy stuff, build computer, install windows, overclock, play games voila no patches or tweaks required. I dont blame AMD or anything cos i think they are a good company and have provided good competition for intel but i couldnt recommend any amd system that has a via chipset to anyone ever again. Also as far as i know the Intel NW 2.2 is the fastest processor out at this time

Yeah i had an ati radeon 8500 and the newest NVIDIA Dets solved all my problems, its now fast and stable. ;( -
Make sure your running SP2. I thought this was only a problem with the initial release of 2000.
-
The max payne readme only lists voodoo 3/4/5 as officially supported. Your gonna have to get a new gfx card soon though anyway, what with 3dfx gone
-
Did EA support seriously tell you to come to this site? If so thats amazing
-
So you get rid of 1 problem and create another, via just is amazing. Why do you guys put up with this from via, its crazy. This IRQ not equal thing can be a million things, just cos 1 person gets it working by installing patch number 10,000 doesnt mean it will work for everyone else.

Also just noticed that game has a monthly fee to play, so it wont be game of the year ;(

tbh i think unreal 2 will be better than doom 3, doom is just gonna be another quake game with different shades of poo coloured textures everywere (which about the top 2% of gamers will actually have the hardware to run). Unreal 2 looks much 'nicer', outdoor settings, and great graphics that will run on my current setup. Also it might even have a story Doom 3 just reminds me of quake 2 with better graphics.

adverts ahoy! but ntcompat needs moola from somewhere

I ust have to say that ive run seagate/maxtor/ibm/western digital drives so far and of the 3 maxtor drives ive had 2 of them have broken after a year each. Running 2 ibms atm and authough they have a bad reputation for reliability ive had these since the 60gxps were first released and they still work perfectly.

Just wait I bet you will think, oh, right is that it?
-
No i really mean it, worst ending in any video game ever made....ever.
-
Brilliant game but the worst ending ive ever seen.
-
hmm, i had a quick look but MS seems to have completely dumped support for all the gameport connected devices Is this an upgrade install of XP or a fresh one?
-
No-one ever reads the instructions Actually makes me wonder about a board i had, should have tried that.
-
batteries rule, i had no idea they could have such an effect, i thought the system would turn on but just lose the settings occasionally.
-
Ive had it working up to the point where you start a mission, where it just crashes to desktop

I doubt the prices will drop much on a gf3, they are going to get totally phased out after all. They will probably just want to get rid of there existing stock for a good price (for them) and then just get gf4s.
-
BTW found the gainward gf4 ti4600 but the 1 clocked at insane speeds (default is 750 mem 8) ) for about 320quids, think ill get that and see what its like, after selling my current card of course.

I was having a think about this today, do we really need these fancy features? things like vertex/pixel shaders, which games actually make use of them ? (suggestions on a post card....) Maybe all we need is a fast card for the moment so the games can catch up with the hardware. I still wouldnt touch a gf4 mx just on pricipal. Its just a suped up renamed gf2
