    ATI or NVIDIA

    Hey The intel runs great Ill give you some benchies if you would like to see some, and no stability issues as of yet. Only thing i would say about it is on RAM choice. You really only have 2 options, ddr or rdram, i went for rdram because at the time it was either that or sdr and authough i would probably choose it over ddr i would have a hard time recommending it to others. You will get about 1fps(ish) more in games with rambus but it can be a bit more expensive and im not sure how rdram will fair in the future. As far as RAID goes, i ran raid0 for a while but it wasnt really worth it, i just prefer 2 seperate drives so i can format 1 without losing the other, and you will have to deal with highpoints awful drivers if you get 1 with a highpoint controller. Overall best computer ive ever owned, fast, stable and bragging rights for having a cpu over 2ghz (only works on ppl who think mhz = everything) If you know AMD systems you should have no trouble setting up an intel one, and stop watering your computer.

    I also love via ;(

    battle of the computers

    Try running a few hours of looped 3dmark 2001 that usually killed my via system. It seems to be very sensitive to instability.

    Tom's Hardware is becoming more biased...

    To be honest, i always buy abit but i have been less than impressed with all of em The KT7a just had problems. And this TH7II-RAID, while it is a nice board needed bios fixes to make it usable in an overclocked situation, and it still needs more, authough it is perfectly stable.
  5. I would like to sell it to you if you want it, but i really dont want to go threw the hassle of sending it to the US

    For the price i paid for this PC i also could have gone for the fastest amd system available at the time but it would have most probably been via based and ive had too many problems with them to use them again. I fix computers all day at work, the last thing i need is to come home and have to fix my own 1. And its not like a 2270mhz p4 is slow
  7. I have a voodoo 5500 PCI, which i never use, but im in the UK.

    Master/Slave, Slave/Master it will make no difference to the speed, just use whatever way round you prefer.

    Course intel have problems, but you see a hell of alot more people saying they have a problem with whatever on a 'via xxxx board' than you do with anything else. Basically, you cant deny it, via stuff just isnt as stable as intel stuff.

    OS X-64 and AMD Hammer :)

    That guy makes it sound like apple and amd are about to take over the world or something. Sounds great in principal but i doubt it will work out like that guy thinks/hopes.

    Clutch, totally agree It doesnt matter how fast a system is, if its not stable its useless.

    Tom's Hardware is becoming more biased...

    Dunno if you guys saw this but this was the greatest thing ive ever seen on shardware. Tom on overclocking the p4 and the AthlonXP.... Quote: The days of easy overclocking are long gone, at least with Intel. With the introduction of a fixed multiplier (burned into special SRAM registries of the CPU), the manufacturer has put the clamps on ever since PIII 'Coppermine'. So the only possibility left for overclocking the Pentium 4/2200 is to overclock the FSB. Still, this makes little sense, because the chipset usually increases the clock speeds of PCI-ports and the AGP as well, putting them out of spec. This frequently results in the system sporadically showing signs of instable behavior with the operating system. For this reason, we did not overclock the Pentium 4/2200. And then about 1 line later Quote: Still, most cases are beset by strict limitations. With the use of a water-cooling system, we were able to increase the CPU clock to 1850 MHz, simply by raising the FSB clock from 133 MHz to 147 MHz. This clock speed would correspond an Athlon XP 2300+. Good ol tom. Think this may also have been posted here before, but its worth seeing again

    MS 23.12 Detonators???

    As far as i know they are the same as the 23.11s but with WHQL certification.
  14. If you are talking about the 27.20s?, they seem fine here, just the same as the 27.10s. Slightly slower in 3dmark 2001 than the 23.11s but the 8light test is alot faster. No stability probs with them and good image quality. No real reason to use them if you already have drivers that work fine for you.

    XP = eXPerience, NT = ?

    Those version numbers really reveal what windows xp really is Win2000 - version 5 winXP - version 5.1 Not much of a change for a new OS

    XP = eXPerience, NT = ?

    Problem with that date system like windows95/98/2000 and so on is that it kinda makes it look old before its time. Even though they are still perfectly good. Hard to explain but you must know what i mean

    Irq_not_less_or_equal :(

    hmmm thanks for that. Actually im quite insulted by your post, you cannot say i have no idea what im talking about, and i know what an 'average person' is and im not one of them when it comes to computers. I dont comment on things if i dont know about the subject, which is why i never bother with the network forums on this board (for example). Why do you think via has this reputation in the first place? People are not going to think it up for no reason, and I only beleve this because i have owned/used many via boards and have experienced the problems first hand. And would you care to explain to me why turning ACPI off in XP is so bad, i realise its preferable to leave it on but if its causing problems then why not turn it off?

    NIC card suggestions

    Strangely enough i have some of both those cards that you mentioned. The linksys and the netgear. The netgear had trouble in my via system but apart from that they are exactly the same really, authough i prefer the linksys. Either would be fine really.

    XP = eXPerience, NT = ?

    I always thought it stood for Network Technologies in NT and New Technologies in win2000. Im probably wayyy off though. Just do a search on the net im sure youll find some suitably geeky jokes about it

    ATI or NVIDIA

    I was expecting ppl to have a go at me for that, its not that im bias against any particular manufacturer, i mean overall i was satisfied with my KA7 but why should i have to tweak and patch to get things working when i can just buy stuff that works straight outta the box. M4Carbine from many games, mainly CS and Ghost Recon.

    ATI or NVIDIA

    Look, im sorry but im just speaking from personal experience. First i had an amd chipset (750/751) and had absolutly no stability problems. Then i moved to via (Abit KA7) because there chipset was significatly faster at the time, it was a kx133 which worked almost perfectly, but took some patching to get working (99% stable). Next i moved to a kt133a chipset which was on an Abit KT7A, and ive never had so many problems with a computer in my life. I would consider myself to know enough about computers to get a system working stable, but no matter what i did it wouldnt not get anything close to stable. Authough i never had any problems with the SB Live! or USB like many people do, it would always crash to desktop when playing games eventually, and i tried everything. Almost all system components were replaced at some point but the problems still continued. I eventually just sold that board to a friend who doesnt play any games and got my intel stuff. Since then ive had absolutly 0 (ZERO) compatibility problems and guess how many patches ive had to apply....thats right none, and does it ever crash, no it doesnt. As I said I can only speak from personal experience, but with this board i have had no problems with any drivers from any manufacturer including nvidia. BTW you may have solved your problem by installing yet another via patch, but for others its not that simple. Also surely the fact that via had to release a patch indicates its a problem with there stuff rather than with nvidias.
