Umm..... Messenger has this great feature called OPTIONS. If you select OPTIONS from the TOOLS menu, and hit the PREFERENCES tab, this is what you should see this: Just clear that box next to the "Run this program when Windows starts" and all your problems are solved. It will not start when you log into WindowsXP.
