    please help????

Have you tried running the program WITHOUT any compatiblity modes? I tried the game succesfully on Windows 2000 without too much of a hassle. If you insist on using a compatibility mode, either try using Windows 95/98/Me compatiblity modes, OR look into the obsolete Apcompat.exe (which may prove useful sometimes). For more info about Apcompat.exe, read this You can get apcompat from the Windows 2000 CD. it would be found under the "support" folder. You can also do a google search to find it But remmember, Apcompat.exe is obsolete. Your best bet is to install SP!1(for XP) or SP3 (for 2k) and use the built-in application compatiblity features. Good luck
  2. Thanx for the reply, BUT I forgot to mention or stress two main points 1.) I tried up[censored] to the latest software from Logitech, including the newest driver and mouseware software, and I still have the same problem 2.) The stop screen does NOT (repeat: NOT) appear at shutdown or reboot. It happens almost randomly when I am running windows!!! It can take anywhere form an hour to a day to happen! 3.) Kbdclass.sys is NOT what i get. I get LHidUSB.sys Can anyone please provide further help?

    Awesome New Look!

Yes I know it has been said before. But the more it is said the better heard. I love the new look of NTCompatible. Good job guys. And best of all it runs on Apache Here is what www.netcraft.com says: Quote: The site www.ntcompatible.com is running Apache/1.3.19 (Unix) (Red-Hat/Linux) mod_perl/1.24_01 PHP/4.0.6 FrontPage/5.0.2 mod_ssl/2.8.1 OpenSSL/0.9.6 on Linux. Thanx again for the upgrade guys. Much appreciated indeed!
  4. Dear folks, this is weird. Its driving me nutts. I have a FAT32 formatted Quantum Fireball LM30 (27GB formatted) hard drive. Recently I upgraded to Windows XP only to find to my surprise that Windows XP thinks the hard drive failed and requires a format. It doesn't even assign it a drive letter. In the COmputer Managemenbt Console the only thing it would allow me to do is either delete the partition or format the drive. I have just booted into Linux and mounted the drive and the drive works PERFECTLY. It reads/writes without a hitch. I am convinced this is a Windows XP problem. Can anybody please help?

Windows XP unable to work with a FAT32 hard drive

LOL ntfs can be a B**** some times. It is waaaaay better than FAT32 mind you. The ONLY reason I use FAT32 is I want to have read/write capability in Linux. If Linux would fully support read/write to NTFS without risking ruining the drive (and files) I would definately use NTFS. Anyways, thanx for all the replies and suggestiions everyone. They are indeed much appreciated

Windows XP unable to work with a FAT32 hard drive

Well the weird thing is the partition WAS working just fine in Linux. I backed up my data and reformatted and it works now. I just don't understand why it didn't work before since Linux had no problem reading/writing to it

Does ECS K75SA support Duron 1.2 GHZ

Dear All, I was just wondering if Any of youmight now if this board supports the Duron 1.2GHZ processor at a 200MHZ FSB. Note that the documentation says Duron 650~950, but since the documentation is old and might not be updated, I was hoping the processor I just ordered for it should work. Please add your two cents if you know if it works or not. Thanx beforehand

    OpenOffice Error

Dear All, I have just installed OpenOffice 1.0 form OpenOffice.org. The install went OK as it seems, but OpenOffice ALWAYS seems to not open up. EVERY SINGLE TIME I attempt to Open up OpenOffice or any of its components I get the following error: Note that I have tried everything from a re-install to a reboot, yet it does thie EVERY SINGLE TIME. I'm using The J2SDK 1.4.0 from java.sun.com. Any ideas please? I repeat, this error occurs every single time OpenOffice or any of its components are to be opened. Note: I am running Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional with Service Pack 2 and the latest compatibility update.

    OpenOffice Error

DirtyHarry there is no need for a sharp tone bro. FYI I DID search on google and I found multiple results but still not very helpful. I figured I'd consult the people here in NTCompatible. Chill Bro. If it irritates you so much to read my topics, nobody is forcing you to read them let alone participate in them. Geez, talk about being unwelcome.

    OpenOffice Error

Here is the output/log file Dr Watson generates. You where right, not very helpful. Just multiple references here and there to soffice.exe I decided to post it here just in case someone can make some sense out of it. Dr Watson's Log File (.zip format)

    OpenOffice Error

Quote: I believe that we have been down this road with you before - with your heat problem and with your disk/mp3 problem. Third time should be a charm. What'sthat supposed to mean Sampson? Do I sense sarcasm? Anyways, I just tried Dr. Watson and all it does is display a silly dialog saying no errors detected.I tried to find some logs in the Computer Managament console but I couldn't locate the log file(s) that might describe this problem. Reminder: This problem occurs EVERY TIME any of the OpenOffice components are to be run. I did try to reboot, and I even did try to uninstall/re-install but none of that helped.

    OpenOffice Error

Hmmm, I c. Thanx for the tip Sampson. Here's what I'll do, I'll bring up Dr. Watson and post its feedback here. It may not be very helpful as you said, but at least its something...
  14. Dear All, This has been an issue I have been struggling with for some time. Allow me to explain: In windows 2000, I can enable the Guest account, and then any network directory, say for example netdir1 can be shared with any other machine nicely as read-only on \\machinename\netdir1 I wish to do the same with Windows XP. I have enabled the guest account, and also shared up a directory, say netdir2. The ONLY way to access the directory would be to map \\machinename\netdir2 as a network drive (say J:\), and have the XP have a specific login, which is soooo much of a pain. To keep a long story short, How can I use the guest account in XP to be able to share a directory with the public without requiring a login (i.e guest access)? Please reply if you can. Thanx

XP not liking Guest account network shares?

Xiven, thanx for the tip. I'll try that tommorow since the XP machine is not mine
  16. shassouneh

XP not liking Guest account network shares?

You've got a point. Unfortunately, the machine in question is not mine, so I don't have the freedom to just run that wizard. Also, I was smart enough to avoid WinXP altogether, I am using Windows 2000

XP not liking Guest account network shares?

The firewall is already turned off By the way, I appreciate your replies
  18. shassouneh

XP not liking Guest account network shares?

Yes I have. I have tried it both on NTFS and FAT32. Of Coarse in NTFS, I also went into the security tab and added the user "guest" giving him/her specific access to the directory and how to enter it etc... The problem is NOT accessing the actual share. Its accessing the machine to begin with!!!!
  19. shassouneh

XP not liking Guest account network shares?

LOL thmios. Add to that that the problem is I can't even see the shares under the machine, because XP denies access to the machine unless u map a network drive, LOL. This is a complete nuisance on the XP part. They should have an option of some sort like Windows 2000 to extensively use the guesta ccount defaulting to read-only privelages for anyone logged in as a guest.

XP not liking Guest account network shares?

Take your time thymios. I'm waiting. Thanx for your replies. It at leats gets my brain ticking. Don't worry about them not helping. At least they get my mind thinking
  21. shassouneh

XP not liking Guest account network shares?

Yes, but the problem is there. This is lame. WIth Windows 2000, I can share all I want with the guest account and practically anybody (Win95/98/Me/2000/Xp/Linux/etc..) can access that share no problem. What's this nuisance with Windows XP? any solutions please?
  22. shassouneh

XP not liking Guest account network shares?

I did that. The problem is it won't even connect to the XP machine. The problem is that it doesn't even connect to the XP machine as it requires a login. As I said above, the ONLY way to do it is to map a network drive. This is a nuisance as Windows 2000 allows you to do it just fine without having to go through this network mount crap. Any ideas?
  23. Dear All, I have just found a working link to some digital audio. Unfortunatley, its all EXE filess, whcih are essentially MP3 files wrapped in a self-executing EXE files. This generates three problems for me: 1.) Such Files will not play under Windows 2000/XP. I'm running Windows 2000. 2.) Such files are not Linux-compatible 3.) These files cannot be burned onto audio CDs. Does anybody know a way to extract the original MP3 files from those executables? IMPORTANT NOTE: The digital audio in question is NOT copyrighted, and cannot be! Its the Holy Quran, and No one, thing or organization has the right to copyright it! So copyrights are NOT an issue here at all. Can anyone help please?
  24. Yes, this is from the same idiot who recently fried his processor, so lets get over that... LOL Now my hard drive (a 27.9GB formatted one) has just crapped up on me. Its file system is now corrupt, and I have 14GB worth of Mp3s on it that I don't have access too I was wondering if any of you can help me with recovering the hard drive (if at all possible). This is the situation: Windows Picks up the drive, assigns it a drive letter, and recognizes it as a 27.9GB NTFS formatted drive (in Windows Management console). It says "27.9GB partition Healthy (active)" If i try to take a look at the drive windows complains about the drive volume label/file system being corrupt and that it can't access that drive. NOTE: The drive is formatted as NTFS, and I'm running Windows 2000 Advanced Server! It would not let me install Norton Utilities 2002 or Partition Magic 7.0 since I'm running Windows 2000 Advanced Server. Note, I'm also running SuSE Linux Professional 7.3. I don't know if that helps any, but its another OS that i'm running. So to keep the story short, I have two hard drives, one is a 13Gb drive (12.09 maximum formatted capacity) set up as such: 6 GB NTFS Windows 5.5GB Linux root (ext3) 440MB - Linux Swap 64MB - Linux Boot The other hard drive is a 30GB drive (27.9GB maximum formatted capacity) set up as such: 27.9 GB - NTFS (MP3 hard drive) I need help folks. I am not as worried about the drive failing as much as losing my great MP3 collection it took me 3 years to build up. I have made VERY OLD and primitive backups with my CDRW drive, but there is at LEAST 2 GB worth of mp3s on there I did not get a chance to ack up (as I was about to sort through them). Can anyone help? NOTE: Does anyone know of a decent NTFS repair utility I cna use? CHKDSK did not work, it says it can't access the drive. Let me know if you need more information. I would take screen captures but I'm running linux at the moment, so let me know if you need more information and I'll boot up windows and try again

STOP errors maybe related to faulty cache memory? NEED HELP

Yes, DH. Gotcha. At the moment my economical situation does not allow for buying a processor at all. I am a broke college student. I was just hoping there was some way to determine if the mobo is working to begin with, because if the mobo got fried in the process, it would be pointless to buy a processor for it. Also, the links you gave me above are MUCH appreciated. I plan to look at them soon. They have also been added to my favorites. If the board is determined to be working, I would invest in a new case. The design of my case is messed up.They put the PSU almost directly above the processor / HSF which minimizes air flow coming out of the HS/Fan. IDIOTS! The only thing that's good about that case is that it came with a generous 400W power supply. Anyways, I won't bore you with useless detail. I'll get right to the point: The Processor must wait till more cash is available. Maybe Uncle Sam should help a poor college kid like me
