STOP errors maybe related to faulty cache memory? NEED HELP
shassouneh replied to shassouneh's topic in Hardware
Well, I KNOW the Motherboard has a front side bus of 266MHZ, and I DID run the processor/memory motherboard at 133MHZ (1.4GHZ) before WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS. Its just that for some reason it pukes on me now. I RAN IT AT 133MHZ (1.4GHZ) FOR OVER 6 MONTHS WITHOUT PROBLEMS. All of a sudden it puked on me! Reminder: board is an ECS K75SA Athlon Thunderbird / Athlon XP motherboard with a 266MHZ FSB. Can someone please help? -
STOP errors maybe related to faulty cache memory? NEED HELP
shassouneh replied to shassouneh's topic in Hardware
UPDATE: I have an Athlon Thunderbird 1.4GHZ processor, and system memory that is DDR 2100 133MHZ (266MHZ FSB) NOTE that for some odd reason, If i set my system RAM / processor frequency to 100MHZ/100MHZ so that the processor runs at 1050MHZ, the install works and windows works perfectly! If, however, I try to make use of the extra 350MHZ that I paid for, things go haywire!!! REMINDER: My processor is 1.4GHZ and I'm running it at 1.04GHZ right now! Can anyone please help me. I want to take advantage of my 1.4GHZ!!! -

Dear All, I have just purchased Emperor Battle for Dune. Due to my previous experiences with original discs dying on me, I have decided to make a COPY of my discs (I'm entitled to a backup copy of my software anyways) and play it off those back-up discs to make sure i don't lose the actual game. I keep getting an error complaining about not finding the CD no matter how I try to burn it! Please help! The error i get is below:

I'm stillopen tosuggestions about how to resolve this issue!

In Order for you to delete a file in Windows 2000 and Windows XP, two conditions must be met: a.) You are given access rights to the file b.) You are given owner rights to the file. So to be able to delete those files, you must "take ownership" of them. This is a feature of NTFS and is great for security purposes. Here is what you do. 1.) Start Up Windows Explorer and browse to C:\ 2.) Locate the folder "Program Files" 3.) Right click the folder, and choose "properties" 4.) Click on the "security" tab. 5.) In there you should see options that enable you to do such a thing as take or give ownership of the folder. So make sure "administrator" takes ownership of that file (I am running FAT32 so I cannot walk you through the process just yet, sorry! ) It should be pretty intuitive Once you have complete control over the folder (by taking ownership of it), Windows XP will let you delete any file or folder in that directory, or even delete C:\Program Files (NOT RECOMMENDED). Anyways, Let me know if that works for you!

deeman, I already tried GameCopyWorld.com and they had nothing useful. I already tried. As for me not being entitled to copy, EA/Westwood can KMA, I don't wanna ruin my original CD just because THEY think I'm not entitled to a backup copy! Sorry for the bad language, but I don't care about EA/Westwood

SnowHawk I'll download clony and see if it helps. I'll update this topic with my success and/or failure(s). thanx SnowHawk

Nope, still no use!

Nope, I tried burning it in CloneCD the first time (like you described) and it didn't help. It seemed to burn the CD alright, but still it wouldn't play it. Anyways, I also tried Nero CD opy and that failed too. Any hints or ideas anyone?

you lost me with all that jargon. I think my burner is capable of reproducing the cdr as an original. Its "relatively" not obsolete, so i would guess the burner is fine. The burner is a PlexWriter 8432A (8x/4x/32x). Can you please explaion in easier simpler terms?

Dear All, I was wondering if other people seem to be experiencing SEVERE performance trouble with Visual Studio .NET installed on a Windows XP Professional Machine. Even when VS.NEt is not running at all the machine seems to be super sluggish! I have an AMD Athlon Thunderbird 1.4GHZ, 256MB DDR RAM, and a 60GB 7200RPM IBM DeskStar (also a GeForce 2 MX400). When NOTHING ELSE IS RUNNING IN THE BACKGROUND it seems like the machine is chugging at like 100MHZ!!!!!! IE windows will not open, It takes forever to load, Windows's responsitivity goes down the ditch, etc... Does anybody else have this problem?

Windows XP + Visual Studio.NET = Performance trouble???
shassouneh replied to shassouneh's topic in Software
clutch, the system logs mention nothing interest5ing or weird. miku, I hate Half Life. Its not installed on my machine and I do not play it! (try return To Castle Wolfenstein, LOL) Its weird, Even the C++ Compiler/Debugger (the language I use) seems slugish, and it takes forever to run-to-cursor (ctrl-f10), and sometimes it gives me weird eception handling errors and tries to "break" even though I know the code has no problems whatsoever. The code runs fast and without problems on Visual C++ 6.0 but VC++ .NEt complains all the time. Also, it seems like the system is experiencing bad perfomrance after the install. As for the free space, I have 7GB free on my system partition, so that SHOULD be enough for the paging file. I think my paging file is set to a maximum of about 700 MB, since i have 256MB of RAM -
Windows XP + Visual Studio.NET = Performance trouble???
shassouneh replied to shassouneh's topic in Software
Yup, checked the task manager, and closed down everything I could, Still somehow the system is sluggish. I know VS.NET caused this because it was fine with no problems before I installed VS.NET! -
I Agree. Not only does knowledge or familiarity with multiple Operating Systems help the user learn more about structures of Operating systems and how PCs function in general, think about the endless possibilities involved when you know multiple Operating systems. pretty much, If you know multiple Operating Systems you can go anywhere and still be able to effectively use a computer AND stay connected! I am still struggling trying to learn more about Linux and inter-connectivitiy between Linux and windows. Also, as a computer science major, The minute I graduate (like that's EVER gonna happen LOL) the chances are the employer is going to just "magically" EXPECT me to know some Linux, so its certainly very useful. I intend to specialize in installing and troubleshooting Operating Systems, so the time I spend on learning more about Linux is not really a waste at all!

Dear All, Sorry if this is a repeat post. I was wondering, how can you set Windows XP Professional to automatically login with a specific user name and password like you can in Windows 2000 Professional? I've heard you can do it if you set your password to no password, but is there any way i can set it to automatically login without having to remove my password? I really would rather keep my password!

Cool! I'm glad the tip I forwarded on was helpful. By the way, If you have trouble setting up networking under Windows XP let me know and I will be willing to help. I have messed around with XP for quite a bit and I have just managed to make it network succesfully with Linux both ways! By the way, If you use NTFS You can lock-down access to each folder or drive and so on. I would recommend considering a switch to NTFS if you are concerned about security, but note that older games and DOS-based programs may not function undet NTFS. Let me know if you need any help!

Dear All, I'm running a GeForce 2 MX400 64MB AGP video card. When playing games such as the following examples, illumination really REALLY lacks making the games unplayable ins some parts of the maps because they are way to dark to see! Return To Castle Wolfenstein Quake III Half Life Half Life:Countersterstrike etc... NOTE: I have the gamma setting in each game blown up to the maximum it can go, and the monitor brightness setting is set as far up as it can go! Can anyone help??

thanx! that helps quite a bit!!!
