"Error Spawning cl.exe" in Visual C++ Enterprise 6
shassouneh replied to shassouneh's topic in Software
Thanx DrPizza! It now works like a dream. I had to add two more directories, one for Lib file, and the other for include files. Thanx man! You're a life saver! -
Hi everyone. I'm on a simple LAN, that I connect to using a small 4-port 10BT hub. I have 1 Windows Me machine, 1 Windows 2000 machine, and 1 Windows XP machine set up on this LAN, all under one workgroup called "pearljamrox". For some reason, the Windows XP fails to see all other workgroups on the LAN, even though the windows 2000 and windows Me machines do with no problem(s) whatsoever! NOTE: I have the following protocols and/or services installed on the XP machine: TCP/IP NETBIOS IPX/SPX Client for Microsoft networks File and Printer Sharing QoS Packet monitor NOTE: I am NOT on a domain or anything funky like that! just a simple WORKGROUP. Like I said, the Windows Me and windows 2000 have no problems at all! The Windows XP one does! Sommeone please help!

I'll check it out sometime. I'm really busy with college work right now. :-( Thanx though!

cl.exe seems to be working fine. I already added its path and still Visual C++ refuses to compile! (same error). -

Ok, I just added all subdirs under c:\vstudio and c:\microsoft visual studio And my path now looks something like this: %SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;c:\vstudio;c:\microsoft visual studio;c:\vstudio\IDE;c:\vstudio\graphics;c:\vstudio\MSDev98;c:\vstudio\setup;c:\vstudio\tools;c:\vstudio\wizards98;c:\microsoft visual studio\VB98;c:\microsoft visual studio\VC98 It STILL insists on giving me that "error spawning cl.exe" BS! HEEEEEELP! -
"Error Spawning cl.exe" in Visual C++ Enterprise 6

Ok I seem to be thinking reeeeeeal slow today, so please bear with me. As we all know, visual studio installs on two main directories, a "sommon files" one, and a regualar "program files" one. In this case these are c:\vstudio c:\microsoft visual studio So i go into control panel->system->Advanced->Enviroment variables THEN WHAT? can i just add a new entry called say "Vstudio path stuff" with it pointing to c:\vstudio\*.* and c:\microsoft visual studio\*.* ??? Please bear with me and give me small details that i can absorb as a college student, not a microsoft emplyee! lol. (kidding) -

OK, 1.) Is there an easy way to find out ALL related such directories / paths? 2.) ADD them under "Administrator paths" or "system paths"? -
Hi everyone, I just bought a new motherboard/processor/RAM. It comes with a built-in LAN card. Does anyone happen to know what make/model it is? I need to know so i can set the right Linux kernel module for it to connect to the internet /network!!! Note: The motherboard is an ECS k7S5a (Athlon thunderbird 1.4GHZ). running Linux Mandrake 8.0 Somebody please help! PS: is there a generic LAN driver i can use insted?
-
I c. I checked the SiS web site. They're a bit stingy with drivers. They also have no intentions to support the drivers available on their web site as they claim that other parties have created them!!! I hope the linux community comes up with something very soon, as I am not sklled enough to write my own drivers (at least not just yet)!
-
Unfortunately my hands are tied right now. I just upgraded my motherboard, processpr and RAM to an Athlon 1.4GHZ. Apparently for some reaoson I can no longer boot Windows AT ALL! All I CAN boot is Linux Mandrake 8.0, and I don't know what kind of built in LAN card I have, so i can't really configure linux to connect to the internet. SO I am reeeeally sc**wed! TO add to the problem, my motherbaord thinks the processor is a 1GHZ processor not a 1.4GHZ, so I am triyng to figure out a way to get a BIOS update and see if that helps. Of coarse, since I can't boot to windows, I can't really download a BIOS update! If i get linux to connect, I MAY be able to download the update and stick it on a floppy disk. Anyways, to keep it short, I can't touch windows XP's network setitngs just yet. Chances are I'll have to format/fdisk all over again! Wish me luck!

Please re-explain! As you know I am no networking expert. You totally lost me with the THOR/APK and HERCULES/APK example dude. If you would be kind enough to explain to me sloooowly and in "dummy" detail, I would be mich obliged. I'm still new to this "old" machine name business. I DO know what a workgroup is, but i don't understand the idea behind adding the machine NAME (not a user) to the XP machine. Please explain for a dummy like myself! :-)
-
Yes they are. This is not the problem though. The windows 2000 /Me machines can see and connect to other workgroups (for instance, the Ewu workgroup). ONLY the XP machine suffers from not "seeing" such workgroups under "entire network/Microsoftg Windows Netwrok"!
-
OK, this problem pertains to BOTH windows 2000 and windows XP. I was wondering if i can get help with this one folks! There is 1 Windows Me machine on the simple LAN network (through a 10BT 4 port hub) that requires a password for one of its shared folders. Here's the problem: I know the password as I have contacted the machine's owner. Every time I attempt to connect to this shared folder, I receive a prompt to login with a user name and password! What is this all about? The windows 2000 machine asks for both a username and a passsword, the XP one only asks for a password, greying out the user as Guest\computername! Ehen I enter the password in XP it doesn't connect. What user name should i enter in 2000? NOT THAT THE MACHINE I AM TRYING TO CONNECT TO IS A WINDOWS ME MACHINE! Someone help!

i read all these posts before! none of them worked! Simple File Sharing IS already turned on!!!

Ok people, this is not as as simple as it sounds. Yes, I HAVE enabled the "remote access" option from within windows XP such that network machines can connect to it! Also, I have shared at leasty one folder in XP so that machines can "See" the XP machine. The windows 2000 machines seems to fail to see any of the shares under XP even though all remote access features in XP have been turned on and it firewall turned OFF! someone help!

windows 2000 fails to recognize shares in Windows XP

i think I already tried that. :-( -
I think i tried the settings you mentioned and they didn't help much. I'll install the game again tommorow and find out for sure. right now its 1:20 a.m and i better get some sleep! :-)
-
NO!I tired it under XP, still no sound! I also tried using VDMSound under XP, same result!
-
No dude! Its a totally different game. Its called "Shadow Warrior" and it has been released by #DRealsms, the same people who made "Duke Nukem 3D"! lol

Hi everyone, I have problems getting a Windows Me machine to connect to my windows Xp machine through a simple LAN. There are NO DOMAINS or anything funky like that. The machine refuses to connect to my workgroup! For some reason it thinks the workgroup is "not available" even though my windowsXp machine connects to his machine effortlessly! HELP! thanx. PS: I'm running my NETBOS over TCP/IP as clutch has suggested!
-
No salutes please! I'm doing this for one of my MANY classes for Computer Science, so I don't know if i truly "deserver" a salute. I'm checking out the MacOSX stuff right now (even though I should be working on my C++ assignment)
-
Hmm, interesitng. I heard people going crazy about the new MacOsX but haven't seen any demos yet. I kinda don't like Macs, but maybe that umay change if I get my hands on some of these demos. As far as I know right now, OSs before X suffered gereatly from incompatibility issues and proprietary issues too, but Like i said, that could have all changed in X, who knows. I'll check out some demos some time. Now, I'm struggling with Visual C++ trying to prevent it from skipping over a function call! Fun, huh? NOOOO!

Quote: So far, i think the best OS has come up with was Win2k. And i mean OS, not just a GUI shell over DOS as in win9x/Me! There's a typo. I forgot the word "Microsoft". here is the corrected verion So far, i think the best OS MICROSOFT has come up with was Win2k. And i mean OS, not just a GUI shell over DOS as in win9x/Me!

I certainly do agree that Linux has improvd A LOT, even though I am a mere beginner at it. I'm running Mandrake 8.0 as well as XP on this old machine. However, Does Linux match up to compete against windows as a DESKTOP (again, DESKTOP) OS? by far not! I agree that hardware support also needs a buttload of work for linux. Also, Linux is not as "easy to use" as microsoft claims windows to be! Try adding a sound card not supported by your kernel. you'd have to "re-compile the kernel". Even I don't know how ot do that, but I CAN figure out Windows NT/2k/P no prob! So far, i think the best OS has come up with was Win2k. And i mean OS, not just a GUI shell over DOS as in win9x/Me!
