oh yes..there's plenty of differences, the primary being the number of services that run. workstations like nt4 wks and win2k pro use what the nt4 server and win2k servers give them. i think the reason that driveimage doesn't work for server though is because powerquest doesn't want it to. i think they programmed in there, "hey if this operating system is Windows Server, then give the guy an error message and quit setup". they may have done this because they dont want to be liable for screwing up a server when the software was written for the workstation machines. it even states on the powerquest web page that it is not compatible with server. the hunt continues...

oh yes. ntfs everything I've tried Drive Image from PowerQuest. It doesn't work on Windows SERVER. I've tried pretty much every drive imaging software out there that I know of... none support Windows SERVER. That's why I started thinking of other ways.. like the mirroring idea. Who knows. Maybe I'll end up just starting from scratch, one machine at a time. Darn that will be a pain in the butt tho.

I'm ready to build a new system. I have money now and I'm looking to build one kick butt machine. Since the last time I build a machine (maybe 2 years ago), quite a bit has changed. I have a couple basic question to ask, which should bring me up to date. DDR RAM , I know what it is and how it works... my question is... could I buy sticks of DDR Ram and throw them into a good ole 440BX PC133 mainboard? Or do you need a "DDR" motherboard to support DDR RAM. **I'm not buying a 440BX, I'm just using it as an example**. Are there any dual Pentium 4 boards out there yet? What is considered the best Pentium 4 board? The Asus P4T looks real sweet, but it uses RDRAM... a major setback for me. IDE hard drives are up to ATA/100 now, have they gotten faster than 7200 RPM? I see they are up to about 100gig now, for the same price as I paid for a 4 gig.. 4 years ago. Crazy. Bus speed: I see all these Pentum 4 boards boasting 400+ mhz bus speeds. I understand that it's really just a 100 mhz speed thrown in there 4 times.. but most of these boards that I have seen require RDRAM. Are there ANY Pentium 4 boards out there that support DDR RAM? It would seem stupid to put a P4 1.8 GHZ chip on a board with PC133 SDRAM. What's the best floppy drive you can buy? What's the lowdown on SCSI and IDE RAID devices? Here's what I decided: I figured that just because I have money now does not mean that I should spend it, so instead of spending 2 grand on an entirely new system and waiting a couple months for the hardware you are talking about, I will upgrade part by part. Also, it does not look too enticing to buy a Pentium 4 setup right now so I've decided to go top of the line Pentium 3 (1GHZ) with an ASUS CUSL2-C mobo. This is going to be a very sweet upgrade for me since I'm currently running a Pentium 2 504mhz (112X4.5) on an Amptron 3100B mobo. My hard drives are ATA/66 and my current motherboard supports only ATA/33, my RAM is pc133 but is currently running at 112. I have a Sound Blaster Live Value sound card and because of those compatibility issues with the Via chipset, I went with the CUSL2-C mobo, which has an Intel chipset... so shouldnt have any problems there. Also my video card still aint bad... GeForce 2 GTS DDR 32meg. My case is an ATX Enlight Corp. case and according to Down8 P4 mobos have a whole new form factor, meaning I would have to get a new case as well. Given this, I narrowed it down to the primary things that I should upgrade... my mobo and my processor. Doing so would give the rest of my hardware the oportunity to perform at it's maximum potential, which is still quite fast even by today standards. Also it means that I can continue to use the hardware that I still have. I don't have to run out and buy a new case or RDRAM or anything else. I got the motherboard and the processor for $297 without shipping. I think that's a pretty sweet deal. Thanks again for your input!

Any router you buy is going to give you some problems when trying to send files via ICQ or IM, or the like. I have a D-Link DI-704 router and I still havnt been able to figure out how to send files via ICQ. Small price to pay if you ask me. As far as running servers, I run a Web, Email, FTP, and Antivirus server behind my firewall (well these are the servers that access the outside net), with absolutely no problems. I also use Morpheus, and the Gnutella network with no problems. I have hosted games of Quake, Half Life, Age of Empires, Warcraft, Diablo II.. to name a few... all with no problems. The only thing was that I need to figure out which port to forward. That router is more expensive than mine was, so I know it's got to have a few more features. As far as sending files from IM/ICQ/MSN... you prolly can't do it being behind a router...and that is ANY router, not just the Linksys.

According to EVERYTHING I have read... no, this does not apply to Apache server, only to Microsoft's IIS. As far as your other question... as long as you're not running IIS you should be ok. This bug only attacks computers with an unpatched IIS 4.0 or 5.0. Later.

Well, it doesn't really "kill" it, it just prevents it from infecting YOUR system. All those hits you've been getting though are coming from systems that have been invected.

As clutch pointed out to me earlier too.. each hit came from a different server. So you can see the extent in which this worm has spread. It is really annoying to know that there is all this crap data out there on the net doing nothing but clogging it up and harming all these web servers. Still, you have to marvel at it, and think to yourself how war in the future will be waged. I have a feeling it's gonna be country vs. country... trying to design worms and viruses intended to shut down the other's economy. Eh, whatever happens... the fact that one or two or three people can write a program like Code Red, and have it create havoc throughout the world... really is a frightening thought.

Well, it HAS to have an MBR if you can see partitions. The MBR tells the drive where the partitions are and how big etc. So if it boots, and if you can see your drives.. then the MBR exists. However, I think it's possible to have problems with your MBR, but still have it work. This may be the case with you. Be careful though, any messing around you do with your MBR can erase everything on that hard drive. Make sure to back up.

And if that doesn't work, you can briefly disconnect your RAID setup so that your IDE0 is the only thing plugged in, run Win2k setup and select "repair".. and have it repair the boot environment. Hmm.. only problem then is it might get confused, since you will now have two bootable drives. Hmm. Just a thought I had.

whew.. who knows.. it could be a whole bunch of things. Have you tried it with a different NIC? Played with the RAM at all? Any hardware changes whatsoever? Have you tried installing it again... perhaps it was just a fluke the first time?? What is your hardware set up? Need a tad more info. Chow
