Actually, I visit NTCompatible everyday, many times. It's just that I don't post much anymore. I figure, you'll have a reply up there soon, so why bother answering? I'll spend my time elsewhere.

I like it a lot. Very very clean and easy to navigate. It has the old NT Compatible feel, with a nice fresh look. Good job Philip!

Guys for a heavy gamer and Internet user which OS is better?
Atreyu replied to pr-man's topic in Software
Wow... I would say Windows 2000. I've had far more problems with XP. For me, Win2k has been a rock no matter if I'm gaming, developing, whatever... XP has been anything but reliable for me. I will confirm, however, that XP ran quake 3 at 20FPS faster than 2k. So in that respect, it sure seems faster. However, I value stability over gaming performance. That's why I like 2k over XP. I'm waiting for service pack 1 then I'm gonna try XP again. After all, read through the thread YOU created here http://www.ntcompatible.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=19442 -

I've always used MusicMatch. But I think I'm gonna give EAC and LAME, cuz it sounds like they kick butt. :-)

FedEx rocks. They are always on time, but what I really love about FedEx is their system. I'm never home during the day to accept delivered packages. With UPS, this sux... you get home, you get a ticket on your door, then you must call this automated system and setup to pick up your package the next day! You know that your new toy is just down the road but you have to wait another 24 hours before you are able to pick it up!! With FedEx, you get the ticket and your package will be available for pickup after 6:00pm, and usually it's ready by 5:30. So I can go home, get the ticket wait two hours (instead of 24) then go pick it up. FedEx all the way.

Greetings everybody! I've just moved to a new apartment and I'm having a very frustrating problem. I can hear an FM radio station through my computer speakers whenever power to them is turned on. It's loud enough that I can tell what song is playing and even make out some of the DJ's sentences. I have the Altec Lansing Select 641's. The interference is not coming through the power outlet, but rather from the long cables to the back speakers (they are acting as long antennas). In the troubleshooting section of the instruction manual it suggests that if this happens, replace the speaker wire with something that has better shielding. That's all fine and dandy, but doing this would void the warranty (confirmed with Altec). I've heard that there is some sort of small circular thingamajig that you can clip to speaker wire, that will filter out FM signals. I was told to look in the coils and conductors section of Radio Shack for such a device, but to no avail... the Radio Shack thugs being no help either. Anybody have any suggestions? I could really really use them.

Well if you care.... I've attempted to use XP about 4 times now and have had problems every time. Actually I became quite irritated with the OS. I've been using Windows 2000 since the day it came out two and a half years ago and swear by it. I don't have the problems with Windows 2000 that I have with XP. For me, 2000 is a ROCK and the only way to go right now.

Same is true for Verizon employees. BTW I got it to stop interfering by grouping up all the extra cabling and Scotch-taping it to the upper right most inside corner of my desk. There seems to be a pocket there where FM signals are unable to reach.

I thought this movie hauled major a$$. I don't feel like writing a huge review here so I'll just mention something that bothered me about both Episode I and II, but even more in II. I think computer-aided graphics are all fine and dandy, but I think there is a point where they are too much and I think Episode II is bordering on "too much" computer stuff. It's almost as if George Lucas has something against real humans doing the acting jobs. For example, when Obi-Wan was speaking with his buddy at that restaurant EVERYTHING in the damn place was fake. The robot waiters, the other customers, and most of all... Obi's friend were all computer generated. Everybody! I tend to think that if a character in that movie could be played by somebody in a costume that it would have a much more authentic effect. Imagine Fat Ba$tard from Austin Powers being replaced by a computer generated version.... just wouldn't be the same. On the other hand, Stars Wars from the very beginning has been all about using the day's latest and "greatest" technology. I remember when I was 2 and the original Star Wars were the big thing, my mother was watching a "making of" Star Wars and the biggest thing was "how the heck did they make those light sabers!?". We've come a long way, but I think perhaps Lucas needs to more carefully consider how he uses computer technology in his films. In huge battle scenes it is awesome, in small restaurant scenes I think it would be better without. Oh, and as far as "The Two Towers" goes.... Think of it as Lord Of The Rings Episode II :-). The Two Towers picks up where The Fellowship of the Ring left off. After that, The Return of the King is the final book of the trilogy. Consider it Lord Of The Rings Episode III.

I prefer NAV 7.61. It just feels better to me... thinner or something. Of course in my situation it's managed by my NAV server, but it runs just fine by itself. If I had a laptop, and I had to chose my antivirus platform, it would be NAV 7.61.

I need a good MP3 utility for mass renaming and synchronizing ID3 tags with file names etc. Basically just a good MP3 file and ID3 management utility. Suggestions? I want to apply a naming scheme to all my MP3 files and their ID3 tags.

I too have come accross Tag&Rename... and I would agree, the program kicks major bootie. I'm almost tempted to fork out the $24 just because I'm so happy with it. I'll check out the other one you suggested though. Thanks!

I see no advantages over Win2k. I'm a little disappointed in XP, as even without installing any of my own drivers it's crashed on me every installation I've tried. The latest fiasco was that my computer would crash/freeze simply by double clicking "My Computer". So I put Windows 2000 back on and as expected, everything is again running like it should be. Ya just can't beat Win2k. I'm also not a very big fan of the new GUI, as it's too "big" and reminds me of candyland or the little toy computers that you give a child. The search function is annoying as heck with that stupid dog and the 100 options you are presented. Thank God you can get rid of all that trash by using TweakUI for XP, which allows you to go back to the "Windows 2000" style of searching. Also, they changed the way it looks when you go to change security settings on folders/files. I hate that you have to type in the name of the user/group and then press "search". I'd MUCH rather have the Win2k way, where you can see the available users/groups and select from the list. Oh and the built in .zip file support is annoying has heck. You can disable it by editing the registry, but it doesn't seem to hold. Perhaps if they kept all this stuff specific to the Home Edition that would be fine... but much of it has absolutely no place in the "Professional" edition. I'm also don't like the new start menu. When I have XP installed that gets disabled immediately. I dunno, I think it takes longer to get through it because of all the different crap all over. Oh well, I could go on and on... but when you get down to it, I've gone back to Windows 2000 because I'm sick of having XP crash on me all the time.

To be honest, I've preferred Bulletproof since the day I first learned FTP. I still use version 1.08.... old I know, but I havn't found the need to register a later version as this one does everything I need, is super slick, and is very "non bloated".

Your post is: What would you do with 10.000 dollars.... So let's see, I'd prolly use the $10 a chinese buffet and a pack of gum. Now if I had 10 THOUSAND dollars, I'd invest it in as many diversified growth mutual funds as possible, with a focus on techs. I'd also like to take some of it and invest it in triple tax free Illinois Municipal bonds with very low risk and are (obviously) tax exempt.

I notice it happens when shutting down... or whenever the computer waits for an extended amount of time. Not quite sure if this is an answer or what, but I think it's by design... and if so can probably be turned off somewhere.

Thanks bud.... funny thing is, I still havn't received it and technically I should have... it's been long enough. I think that they are so screwed up there that they may think they sent it, but didn't really. Very strange, I've never seen anything like it before.

I don't know why I'm telling you guys this..... but I saw the Backstreet Boys in concert. It was not one of my finer moments, but I had no choice. Yeah I know, I just lost some status around here. Now that I think of it, I also saw New Kids On The Block... but again had no choice. Ok go ahead, make fun

Get this: I just got a call from MicroPro saying that my order has been shipped (Altec Lansing Select 641 Speakers). Well the dumbasses cancelled my order about two weeks ago and credited my card the full $167. In other words, looks like I'm getting a free set of 641's... the only problem is, I bought a set from another website. So I'll have two sets! Ebay here I come! I could make a nice penny off of this.
