My Win2k servers never crash, nor does my 2k workstation. Never. I've gone hundreds of days (yes, hundreds) without needing reboots on my servers. They are solid as a rock and are locked down tight. Like with Linux, when you know what you are doing, Windows NT,2k, and XP are rock solid OS's. As far as your comments about Windows crashing... Windows crashes are USUALLY a result of user error, misconfiguration, improper upkeep, and badly written installed applications. And as for the point and click stuff, remember that Windows came about from DOS which was command line... and gurus like me certainly havn't lost our taste for writing batch files or using command line for... well tons of stuff. Linux is not hard for me, I could learn it... it's just that there is no point. Heck I learned how to program COBOL/PL1/JCL on an IBM Host. If I was able to learn that, Linux would be a cupcake. Linux would certainly be the answer over Window 9x/ME for stability and security, but this no longer applies since the advent of Windows 2000, .NET and XP. Oh and by the way, I have tried it... many times. Back in school I even wrote labs for others to complete with regard to installing and configuring Linux for network use (workstation and server). We set up web servers and attempted an email server but ran out of semester. My curiosity has always been aroused, and I've tried it many times.... which is why I came to the conclusion. It's kinda like my Netgear RT314 Router. All the advanced features are accessible only through a Telnet session. It's wonderful that the features are there, but it doesn't have to be THAT complicated to work with them. That's all for me.

Greetings: Two boxes, both W2kServer SP2 + every update under the sun. They are both domain controllers, but "server 1" was the server used to create the domain, so it's the PDC (although do we still use that term with W2K?). Anyways, on "server 2" exists Exchange 2000. Problem: When I reboot "server 1", I cannot connect to my Exchange server with Outlook until "server 1" comes back up. The answer seems obvious, but it has eluded me. My AD is running in native mode, as is Exchange 2k... which I would think with that level of AD integration that there would be no issue with Outlook finding the server SOMEWHERE in the AD, but for some reason, it doesn't know to query "server 2" when "server 1" aint there. Again, both servers are domain controllers. Yes, my DNS/WINS and DHCP settings are all perfect. Name resolution on my LAN is not a problem. Anyhoo.... thanks in advance.

You are correct, "Server1" was the GC for the domain and "Server2" was NOT. This was why when I rebooted "Server1" I could not connect to my Exchange server. And nope... not the same Atreyu :-). However props to the guy at supercars.net for chosing such a kewl handle!

Not sure if this one has been posted yet but... http://www.nxgenstore.com/nxgen/index.asp is excellent. I got a set of Altec Lansing 641's for $160 TOTAL (including shipping). I submitted the order LATE Friday night, and it was shipped today (Monday). I should have the schtuff by the end of the week. Finally... I've only been trying to get these suckers for 3 weeks now.

Thanks bud... I'll check it out. I think I figured out the problem though... The Exchange box although a domain controller, was not a Global Catalog server... therefore unable to process logons. This is probably where I went wrong. I'll be testing it out in a bit. Thanks for your reply!

Greetings: I've been using this for quite some time now and it is absolutely top notch. If you havn't heard of it, or don't use it as of yet, check it out. http://www.neo-modus.com/ Forget Morpheus and Kazaa, as these are complete garbage compared to Direct Connect.

I originally registered in December of 1998, when I made my first venture into the world of NT. Since then I've had to re-register for various reasons. That was 4 years ago.... crazy.

Thanks Marktait... And just to let everybody know.. after some rather forceful emails (including screenshots of how my credit card was charged) written by me, I have finally received my $167 refund. So in the end, I was the victor. I'm sure we all saw that coming anyway :-). Cheerio!

Sunday, March 24... 5 days after my order cancellation... still no credit to my card. I've informed the credit card company and soon the BBB. This whole ordeal is really hard for me to believe. I've NEVER had problems like this before.

Just ran accross this thread. My wallpaper changes every couple of days because I'm so darn indecisive... but here's how things look right now.

I tried RedHat a couple times... but got too frustrated when I couldn't figure out how to do the simplest things and could find no documentation anywhere that pertained to my situation. One of my major question about Linux is... what is the equivalent of a .exe file? It took me hours to figure out how to install Star Office and even now I don't remember how I did it. Anybody here know of a forum or a place to go where the focus is basically "Linux for Newbies"?

The reason British people drive on the left side of the road, if I have been educated correctly, is that years ago when Jousting was popular, riders rode on the left thereby enabling himself to strike his opponent holding the Joust in his right hand. Driving on the left side became a descendent of that tradition.

There's also the issue of sovereignty, which I'm sure plays a role. Also, I can see how a country would be skeptical of such a system considering they are not totally in control of their money (like you said). It almost seems as though it would turn Europe into another "United States", where there are many countries all with their own sovereignty but yet part of a bigger power. That would be such a HUGE change since your history is thousands of years older than ours is, so I can imagine the controversy this has created. I just imagine myself being forced to begin using Canadian money all the time. It would just feel wierd.. as if I was no longer in the U.S. Oh well. Topic seems to have gone astray here so I'll try to bring it back on track. More MicroPro bashing time.... I got this from http://www.nextag.com/serv/moviedepot/buyer/MerchantDesc.jsp? Date: Jan 26, 2002, Rated by: PatrickCampbell "I sent my Micro Pro computer in for warranty repair in June of 2001. They didn't fix it and when I called to complain, Mike the service manager said the repair person only spoke Russian and they couldn't ask him what he did. I sent it back in August and again they didn't fix it. This time they didn't bother to put packing material around the case and it was damaged in shipping. I managed to fix all the damage except for the CD-ROM drive. Mike refused to even consider a fix until they were paid by FedEx for the damage, even though it was their fault. Mike said FedEx would contact me to inspect the damage. They never did. Mike ignored numerous messages to call back. When I finally did reach him, he refused to give me the name of his boss and was very rude. I finally just sent the CD-ROM drive back for repair. They still have it and refuse to do anything until they get money from FedEx. They are still ignoring messages. It is now January 2001." Date: Jan 23, 2002, Rated by: davidemartin "I ordered a system on Wed, they showed the credit card as approved and emailed me they were shipping on Thursday. Their order status system wouldn't work so I called Friday morning to verify the order. It hadn't been processed because of a problem with the bill to address not matching the ship to address. They didn't contact me, just dropped it without contacting me. I spent 6 hours on the phone with them Friday before they told me accounting was closed, I would have to take it up with them on Monday. I could have given them another card which would have worked at any time, but they were more interested in wasting time. I cancelled the order" Date: Dec 28, 2001, Rated by: lgkj "They do NOT deliver as promised. Their icons showing an item as being in stock are not updated in real-time. They do not bother to call and tell you the item isn't in stock. I called 3 different days and got 3 different stories. A salesman told me the item was back- ordered, yet it still appeared as being in stock on the web site! If you like liers, give them a call." --------------The problems discussed here are exactly the same problems I'm having.

I just picked up a set of these baby's for $146 (+ $18 shipping). Good buy? Anybody have these? From all the reviews I've read they are top notch speakers, often rated just under or equal to the Klipsch Promedia 5.1's, however can be found for half the price. I hate buying things like speakers online without hearing them first, but when the only "negatives" people can find about the system is the size of the subwoofer, then I think it's pretty safe to assume that it's a good soundin' set.

Did some research on Micro Pro at the Better Business Bureau's website http://www.bbb.org/ Check this out.................. Based on BBB files, this company has an unsatisfactory record with the Bureau due to unresolved complaints. The Bureau has processed a large number of complaints against this firm. Complaint allegations include the quality of the product was not as advertised, the company did not provide refunds as promised, and dissatisfaction with the company's service. The company has responded to most of the complaints brought to its attention by the Bureau; however, some were responded to after lengthy delays, including some that had previously gone unanswered in Bureau files. Furthermore, some complaints remain unresolved in Bureau files. When evaluating complaint information, please consider the company's size and volume of business. The number of complaints filed against the company may not be as important as the type of complaints and how the company handled them. WOW Really? That's crazy. Yeah they were supposed to call me back by the end of the day confirming that my card has been credited. They have not yet called, and my card has not yet been credited. I will be calling them AGAIN tomorrow to make sure they took care of things. This ordeal has been going on since Tuesday. I cannot describe my disguist accurately... I'm so ticked. I will also be contacting the Better Business Bureau to file a complaint against the company... I suggest you do as well.
