But with the original drivers from XP you cant use OpenGL! Do you play D3d? Because I have the same problem, I can play d3d games without any problems (games like civ3), but when I want to play OpenGL games like half-life my game hangs just after a couple of minutes some times seconds. The graphics stops and the sound stutter. And win XP tells me that it is my nvdisp.dll (or something like that) that has caused the error. I’m running the latest drivers 23.11. I have an ASUS K7m mobo, with the latest AGP drivers to the amd-751 (5.22 I think). And a Geforce DDR (Annihilator pro from creative).

or try the latest detonators at www.nvidia.com

well i tryed 12.41 and 14.10 and the problem occurs after some time of playing cs. So my post above is not accurate!

For what I know it’s not possible to do that. Because the file system is so different.

Hi! Actually I have 2 questions. One is that my opengl game does not work in HL. I have installed RC1 2505 ok, with the default drivers. But HL complains that my video card does not support opengl. I have a Geforce 1 DDR (Annihilator pro). I have just read I another thread that I have to upgrade my drivers to version 12.41 to work, I will do that as soon I get home But when I change to D3D, I get some other problems. When I try to go to the configuration page (pressing 'esc') the configuration page is black and I am not able to configure anything Any thoughts about this, or is it just to upgrade the drivers? Personally I think it should work with the default drivers... I have used 12.40 drivers in both 98 and 2000 without any problems. Sincerely Fnorg

Is there any possibility to look at the bug reports I have sent to Microsoft? I don’t mean in my computer, but in Microsoft bug database. Just to se if the bugs are processed or discarded... Just a thought...

What drivers are you using? I recommend that you use 12.41 from Nvidia, if you use Nvidia based graphic card.

I have a fixed install of win XP and I have reported some errors. In the reporting stage you can choose to be anonymous I dint . Microsoft said that they would email me with a confirmation of some sort within 24 hr, but no email yet. I reported a bug yesterday and the day before that... I am now waiting for a fat lawsuit hitting me in the head....

You can add a password in XP later so it’s no biggie Just go to control panel -> user accounts

It all depends what you want to do in pure dos mode. You have to understand that in pure dos mode your NTFS partitions will not be detected! So if you only want to upgrade your bios just format a disk in a command prompt "format a: /s " and copy your flash file and program to the disk and reboot with the disk. Fdisk is a very primitive partition tool... So if you want to manipulate partitions I recommend the you use partition magic, in that program you can choose if you want to create partitions, delete partitions alter file systems etc... But be warned, if you choose to format a FAT 32 file system to NTFS all your data will be lost in that partition. And for question 3 I don’t really know of any good NTFS tools, it all depends on what you want to do? But I recommend partition magic anyway... Good luck!

I have heard from many that an upgrade from Win2000 should work fine. But I recommend that you use partition magic to partition your hard disk an install WinXP on a different partition. Doing it in this way you will have your 2000 intact and your WinXP installation on a new partition. If XP fails in some way you will still have your old os as backup. But if you dont want to keep your old os, just format the disk and install XP or just upgrade.

I have installed the nvidia 12.41 drivers and the D3D black screen bug is fixed. But I cannot play HL in opengl. After a while the game locks and the sound stutters. I cannot use 'esc' 'tab' or 'ctrl-alt-del’!!! I have installed the AMD AGP patch and the win 2000 registry fix. So I don’t know what to do more. But the game works fine in D3D. I have an Athlon 700 (not clocked) Asus K7M motherboard Geforce 1 DDR (Annihilator Pro) from Creative. SoundBlaster Live value All the latest Drivers installed to both soundcard and video card. Latest bios to K7M.

Hypothetically, if you don’t activate your XP, can you use windows update?
