If you want stability just go with the 845 intel board that supports ddr memory. If you want to get an amd/via board from what I hear as long as you have the latest drivers and bios the system runs better than intel cpu's at the same Mhz.

I just run the setup with the older drivers still installed and have had no problems. I've been doing it since the first det. release. I've had a TNT, TNT2 Ultra, Geforce 2 GTS, Geforce2 Ti, and a Geforce 3 ti 200. Most companies recommend installing the default driver or VGA device, but I never have noticed a difference. Also I don't download the latest and greatest driver leaks, I wait until nvidia releases new ones on their site. A few more frame per seconds in quake3 or a few hundred points in 3dmark isn't worth the problems I have run in to on games in the past.

are you talking about the ID tag or the file name?

On Windows XP, you will need to download the latest Service Pack, or install the corresponding hot fixes. Please see Knowledge Base Articles Q321178, Q307207, and Q318507, for more information.

With Roger Wilco under XP my keys were all screwed up and playing was a nitemare. I have no gone in active from my CS clan because using voice over IP programs just didn't seem to work right under XP.

is my PDC resetting all my network clocks!?!??! DAMNIT!
FadedTimes replied to HELLBRINGER's topic in Networking
disable the windows clock service on the clients if they are running win2k/XP. I do that at work becuase our PDC clock is way the hell off. -
I've seen other peoples systems do the same thing, dropping anywhere from 256k to 8mb (usually caused by on board video, etc.), but I know the answer won't change your life, 548k is nothing.

Just saw a VERY interesting Athlon vs. Pentium III/IV Video

I have never fried an Intel CPU. I ran even an over clocked celeron 333a w/o a fan or heat sink for hours, because I couldnt find one that fit. Installed windows 98, downloaded updated BIOS to reconize my P3 cpu heh. I let it run for awhile, even ran benchmarks, I didn't have any temp gauges or anything, but the cpu was hot. -
had problems at first but 98se is stable for me. I can have it run for days. No slow down, dont ever use swap file (512mb of ram), I have office xp, aoe2, everquest, media player, ie 6, msn messenger, half life, and more. I keep my software/drivers up to date at updates.com and found my previous errors were due to bad drivers. I ran win2k from dec 99 until XP went final(almost 2 years), but I found 98se to solve my gaming needs. Not that I couldnt get games to run in 2k, just that they run a lot better in 98se.

FadedTimes replied to enio's topic in Customization & Tweaking
Go to your administrative tools and turn off some of the services this is fo win2k but also work in XP http://www.3dspotlight.com/tweaks/win2k_services/index.shtml Turning off services will make some of the exe's running in task mananger go away, saving cpu cycles and memory. -
yes do a new install not upgrade, and keep the drive as FAT32.

I know it sucks, I went to try my refresh rate fix that I've been using forever. I haven't fired up any 3d games yet, but I know what is waiting for me.. =(
