My trusty Office 2000 CD will NOT install on my XP machine. It brings up this bizarre error message as soon as I try to run setup. Is my system corrupt or what? Is XP worth the $300?
-
I've tried using several different programs inluding XP's built-in CD-writing software...it almost never works, freezes up, etc. I sure hope this is something they fix!!!!

Does anybody know if the Via 4-in-1 drivers are supposed to be loaded?
-
well I can't delete my post but I meant to post this in the XP forum....
-
sweet....thank you. I'll give it a shot.

After a clean XP reinstall Nero still won't burn. It always freezes up at exactly 7%. The built-in burner software now works, but after 4 tries to making a simple data CD one of the files is always corrupt. I will try one last time setting speed to 1x, but this is really unacceptable. Previously I have burned .ISO's at 12x without any problem whatsoever.

I have an Epox 8k7a (amd 761 north, VIA south). This is a new system for me on a new OS so I have no idea if going to Win2000 will work for me. I haven't loaded VIA 4--in-1 because I thought it was unecessary with XP? Anyway.....mine ALWAYS freezes up at around 7% in Nero. This is seriously disappointing....i have 8 coasters I've made today thinking it was a file problem... I'm using a Plextor 1210a (or whatever)

How Long will it take creative to make XP drivers??

Quote: Who cares about Liveware? They release individual drivers all the time. The only way you can enable digital output or configure the soundcard for 4+ speakers is by using LiveWare. :| -
I'm going to try reinstalling it tonight....I'll let you guys know what it says. It might not be a problem any longer because I now have Office XP to install.
-
There have been countless stories of the Liveware not working with XP. Solution: use the drivers that come with XP. If you have a 4 speaker or 5.1 setup you'll just have to wait until Creative Labs releases the proper drivers. If somebody else has a solution I'd love to hear it......

www.divx.com there is a quick fix there listed in their forums. It involves simply removing a file in the C:\windows\system\ folder. I forgot the name of the file but it only has a two letter extension...acdivx.av or something like that. I had the same problem and this fixed it.

I think my IE6 is corrupt....somehow it won't let me download from any FTP servers. I think CuteFTP incorrectly tried to mesh with it and fouled it up. Is there a quick and easy way to get a fresh install of IE6 without reinstalling XP?
-
Thanks....I tried that. It reports that a previous change to my system is still waiting to be registered and I need to reboot. My problem is: I installed CuteFTP. Now, everytime I click on a link to a file hosted on a ftp server it launches CuteFTP to download it. I've uninstalled CuteFTP but now IE doesn't do anything when I click on a ftp link...it just sits there.

I have no clue how this happened but as soon as I created an additional login to use my administrator login has completely disappeared. Has this happened to anybody else? What the heck is going on?? How do I get it back?

This horrible little icon repeatedly pops up in my tray every time I launch OutlookExpress DESPITE the fact I configure Outlook to refrain from doing so. I've had this problem with WinME and Win2k as well. How do I WIPE IT OFF my HD?
-
Worked like a charm. Thank you very much!
-
Very interesting. Despite the fact I've told Windows explorer to show all hidden files, a search on my C:\ drive still did not bring that file up. I found it in C:\windows\inf and I removed the HIDE's Thanks

The XP installation is the best OS installation I've ever experienced. It detected every single piece of hardware in my computer. Either you have some major hardware conflicts or you're using 1980's ISA cards in your computer.

Quote: actually you can install it, if you edit the sysoc.inf file and remove all the the "hide" 's then you can remove it and MSN Explorer No such file found on my HD. I simply cannot stand programs that run on my computer without my prior approval. Tray memory hogging programs are the work of the DEVIL.

Thanks for the response.....my next question is: How do I autologon? I am never offered the "remember password" checkbox.
