Hey Adamvjackson. I had already tried both service packs for Office XP without result. And I even tried just Office XP SP1 by itself first. Office XP SP's won't resolve this issue. Their support line is long distance for me as I live in Canada and they do not have a 1-800 number. I don't feel like calling in long distance to find out the same thing they told me in the email, "We are currently dealing with this issue". Oh well, C'est la vie. Thanks anyways.

Just got back home today from out of town work. Hey Stoffer/Admiral LSD. Thanks for the responses. Stoffer, the "ctfmon.exe" is part of Office XP's new improved language bar settings which intergrates voice recognition and voice to text for Word XP. I would still like the ctfmon.exe to run on my system as I find the voice recognition and voice to text tool very handy. Right now as it stands I have followed the guide from Microsoft to uninstall the ctfmon.exe file and have it removed from my system at the moment. Now I can run Word XP without crashing my Hollywood as I had originally with Office 2000. I am able to "surf" the net, run Office and let my wife watch her DVD's all at the same time. I love it. Just no voice to text. Admiral, I am using the latest drivers off of SigmaDesigns website and have even reverted back through previous versions without success. Curious Admiral, have you loaded Office XP fully or are you just using the ctfmon.exe file on it's own for some higher level purpose above my comprehension? Thanks all again, as always.

RivaTuna with mayo for me...

Morning all. I recently did a clean install of Win2K Pro. Prior to that I had WinME which for the most part ran quite well despite public opinion experiences. To say the least I had to load Win2K on for certain apps I needed that would only work with Win2K. I did the service pack 3 with all the accompanying updates. It was completely bare and then I installed Office XP Pro and it launched without error. I then loaded my drivers for my Hollywood. Then I load the Hollywood App (latest one). I launch it and it tells me that the device driver is in use. Lucky I made an image of the system at bare before any other software installs. So I reimaged and did the Hollywood first. I launched it without error and was able to play my Matrix DVD. I installed Office XP Pro and launched it without error. I then relaunched my Hollywood and got the error message again saying that the driver was in use. Now get this, I then go to my device manager and try to uninstall my Hollywood driver. It crashes the system as soon as I hit the uninstall. I reboot and then just try to disable the driver. System crashes as soon as I hit the disable. Can anyone tell me if they've encountered this problem and has a fix for it? I would really like to use my Office XP again with my Hollywood on one system but if I have to I will go back to using Office 2K instead. Oh by the way I have tried using the older versions of app and driver for my Hollywood and I get the same result. Thanks in advance either way as always.

Office XP Pro conflicts with my RealMagic Hollywood Plus...
dcxman replied to dcxman's topic in Software
You guys were right. Ending ctfmon.exe does fix the issue and allows me to run my RealMagic Player afterwards. However I'm not going to uninstall the ctfmon.exe because I actually need it in order for my speech to text to work in Word XP. This is a real drag...But it fixes the issue for now, though inconveniently. I was wondering, will it work fine under WinXP Pro OS? I mean having Office XP and Realmagic running without having to kill ctfmon.exe? Let me know if anyone's tried. If it does work I guess I'll reformat. Thanks again guys -

Did the Office XP service packs originally with the first installs and then without. Same results. Thanks for the response though. -
Morning all. I got a new one for you. I recently purchased an HP Colour LaserJet 8550N and have it queuing to my Win2K Adv. Server with Macintosh Services enabled. The printer is currently shared to all on my network and the PC's print to it transparently. My problem is that my macintosh machine prints will only come out grayscale instead of colour. Now I know what you're thinking, "he's got the configuration settings botched!" I've checked and rechecked the settings (which were maily default) and nada. Right now the way the network is setup, the Printer talks to the Print Server using TCP/IP but the the Macintosh systems talk to the Print server through AppleTalk (Macintosh Services enabled on Win2K Print Server). If I turn on the AppleTalk for the HP 8550N Printer the Macintoshes print through trasparently to the printer with full colour. As soon as I have it turned off and queuing through the Win2K Server it comes out grayscale again. You're probably thinking it's the Print Servers fault. Well I have another older HP Colour LaserJet 8500N from the year before and when I connect to it with the exact same setup everything prints through transparently to the 8500N. So I've nailed it down to the printer. Has anyone come across this before? Thanks in advanced as always.

HP Colour LaserJet 8550N & Win2K w/Macintosh Services...

Thanks Wizard for the help. Sorry I wasn't able to reply earlier but I was in the middle of trying other solutions. It was actually a Post Script driver issue. Apparently when if you plan on using Adobe apps they would like you to use their Generic Adobe Post Script driver for you printer. That solved the issue. Stupid 7MB file off their site. You think HP tech would be aware of this. Oh well. Thanks again. -

Morning all. I hope everyone had a great summer. Damn I feel like an elementary teacher with that first sentence. Anyways, I just wanted to know if anyone could recommend a good app to import user accounts from a spead sheet or doc file into a Windows 2000 active directory. Thanks in advance either way guys.

Morning all! Worst case scenario here. I am in desperarte need of a router with DHCP and V-LAN capability. Emergency situation where my CISCO router has died. I have now setup a Win2K Adv. Svr box to temporarily route with DHCP. It works fine but I now need to re-establish my V-LANs that I had setup on the CISCO. Is there a Microsoft or third party app that can be used to create the V-LANs I need on the Win2K Adv. Srv box? Thanks in advance.

morning guys! i'm trying to share my internet connection using my home system as the router. I am running Win2K on my home system with an @home cable connction. to say the least i've tried 3 ways to share my connection thus far. 1st was to use the built in ICS from Microsoft (which usually works well with @home cable) and share the connection to the second NIC installed. no luck. the second computer hooked up (with cross patch)on the second nic with hard coded IP (192.168.0.2) could not get out. 2nd was to use a third party software (Sygate Home Networking 4.2. sygate would detect the system requesting IP and would actually assign the IP with it's built in DHCP but would not let it get out still. 3rd was to use hardware (netgear router) without luck as well. internet works fine still with no problems on original host machine. can anyone shed any light onto this dilemma? is @home screwing with me or something? thanx in advance

Had a nice little chat with the friendly neighbourhood @Home technician after a two hour and a half hour wait (no joke, 8:03pm-10:43pm). Bottom line is that they do not support ICS of any kind and don't have any suggestions. I sort of knew that was coming as it has been their policy from the start. Oh well. SOL again.
-
I've done ICS many a time (even with third party vendor apps and on multiple OS's including MAC) and understand what has to be set server and client side in order for sharing to occur. But it doesn't work. When I use my DSL connection instead (two connections at home), no problems at all. Can anyone explain this? The only thing I can think of is the MAC address for ID that @Home uses. Thanks anyways Davros.
-
thanks anyway kgeissler. i found out what the problem was after a some testing. apparently the @home service provider has now locked in MAC addresses for identification on their connection. so the only way to hook up another system would be to call them to reset the MAC address checker. I found that you can also get around it by sending a P-Packet to make it automatically reset itself. what a bunch of *******s. oh well. thanks again guys.

what options does it give you when you right mouse click it?

Morning guys! I just wanted to see if I FUBARed myself. I just setup a system with WinNT Workstation 4.0 and installed IE6 right away instead of IE4. What this does is that I don't get a QuickLaunch bar beside the Start Menu button. You can't even uninstall IE6 from the Add/Remove Programs section (it just asks to "Add Component" and "Repair". I tried both without luck. Is there a single install patch from Microsoft to install the QuickLanch bar or at least a way to uninstall IE6? Thanks in advance either way.

Thanks DosFreak. I will give it a try and see what inspires me.

Here's the direct link for the stream: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/qtv/mwsf01/ I am really not a fan of Apples but I was quite interested with Final Cut Pro in what it could do to the media world and how much business it stole from it's two main competitors.
-
Lucas gave a personal demo of what he was using Final Cut Pro 3 for in Episode 2. Not to offend SHS, but you can see it for yourself in the stream from Apple's site, this past Mac World Expo, in Steve Jobs Keynote speech. Proof is right there from the horses mouth (George). I've used Vegas Video 2 but I haven't used 3 yet so I don't know what the new features are. But from what I found in 3 I found it very limited even compared to Premiere (not as many filters and transitions along with other features). Again no offence. I am just voicing what I've read, heard and viewed.

If you're serious about video editing then you might want to consider getting familiar with the Avid products along with Final Cut Pro 3 and Media 100. All of which have become industry standards by major tv and film production studios (eg. CNN, NBC, Lucas Films, ect... None of which use Premiere.) The only product you may not be able to run is Final Cut Pro 3 as it is MacOS native. But it's the only one that can do "real time" transition effects without re-rendering the entire workspace with exception to enhanced hardware (Matrox RealTime card for PC using Premiere.) Hope that helps.
