Hi guys. I just upgraded my laptop hard drive and now have a 10GB IBM Travelstar Drive (DJSA-210) left over. instead of letting it gather dust on my shelf or go through the headaches of selling it on EBAY, I was wondering if it was possible to pick up a small firewire drive casing for this Travelstar. Has anyone heard of this before or anything like it? I know that it exists for the larger regular desktop drives but I haven't seen it for laptop drives. Thanks in advance.

I use Winamp as well and find it to do a great job. If you want an mp3 player specifically designed for Windows then you might want to use Windows Media Player 7.1 or 8 (8 is for XP). Hope that helps.

I just setup a Win2K Adv Svr with IIS admin setup (done it a million times). Is there any reason why active server pages might not work? Is there an area somewhere in Adv. Server that I may have to go to in order to check if the extensions for ASP are turned on? The only thing unique about this server is that it has Cold Fusion Server Professional 4.5 running on it as well. Thanks to those is advance that can help or try to help. Been pulling out my hair on this one (what little I have of it)

Well, to say the least, I was using IIS LockDown v.1 which was the only one available at the time nimdA attacked our area. I didn't realize that there was a version 2 out. Just came out in November from what I can see of the release date. I hit the "undo" on version 1 and then setup version 2. I chose the "Dynamic Web Server (ASP enabled)" template configuration and allowed ASP extensions through the "view settings template" option. No luck I still get the same error not allowing an ASP to come up. I went into the "urlscan.ini" to manually select the ASP configuration and changed "UseAllowExtensions=0" to "UseAllowExtensions=1" saved it and rebooted. No luck there as well. Still the same error. Whatever the first IIS LockDown v.1 did v.2 can't seem to undo it. This is a newly formatted system just bare default services and patches running. Thanx again Clutch for trying to help.

Thanx Clutch! I found out a bit too late using trial and error method. I did a complete format and tested ASP with each patch install and sure enough it crapped out with the IIS Lock Down. I tried looking for the "urlscan.ini" but it doesn't seem to exist. I did a complete search for it on the HDD as well without luck. Did I get the filename right? I did an "undo" with IIS Lock Down and it did not restore ASP. I re-did the IIS Lock Down and this time chose in the custom settings to not include ASP extensions but this did not work as well. I guess you're just pretty my SOL if you install IIS Lock Down period. Microsoft's beginning to really peeve me. Thanx again Clutch.

Imaging is the standard word in IT terminiology to describe a sector by sector copy of a HDD. Ghosting came about from Symantec when they developed their Norton Ghost and Ghost Images hence "Ghosting" Drive Image was developed by PowerQuest and is considered Drive Imaging when you use their software. Now depending on the version you are using of Ghost or Drive Image you may or may not be able to image Win2K. I know that Ghost 6.5 works and Drive Image 4 works as well. Ghost 6.5 has incorporated Image Spanning to accomodate Image sizes larger that the 2GB barrier. I believe Drive Image has done similar developments to their software. Hope that helps

Damn I put this it the main thread area. Sorry about Mr. Moderator. If you can please delete it from the main thread area. Thanx Sorry guys, I also forgot to mention the patches that I have installed that were from Microsoft. code red patch (q300972_w2k_sp3_x86_en.exe) IIS Lock Down for nimdA fix (IISLockD.exe) Service Pack 2 (W2KSP2.exe) I'm wondering if the IIS Lock Down would affect ASP extensions from working? Thanks again guys.

Did any get their Hollywood Remote Control from Sigma Designs for their Hollywood Plus card to work? For the life of me I can't get it to work. The IR port that attaches to my serial port gets recognized by my WinXP Pro as a serial mouse. I installed the latest drivers from Sigmas site for both the remote and the card. No luck. Am I doomed to manually play my dvds? Ughh! Thanx in advance.

Hi guys! I just recently picked up a Seagate Barracuda 80GB 7200RPM ATA100 HDD. But I've been having problems trying to get the full disk space recognized. So far I've used Partition Magic 5 and 6. I've used Disk Management on Win2K Adv. Svr. and WinXP Pro without any luck. It just tells me that there is only 32GB. I know what you guys are thinking. I've been gipped. But I purchased from a reputable dealer who I've been going to for the past 2 years and I checked the serial and model number off the Drive and in the System Info tag. All of which point to a 80GB HDD. Here are my system specs: PIII 800 MHz FSB100 Slot 1 512MB SDRAM CAS2 PC133 (Infineon 2x256MB sticks) Abit BE6 First Version with latest BIOS Flash since yesterday Asus 6600 Geforce256 Deluxe Seagate Barracuda 80GB 7200RPM ATA100 Maxtor DiamondMAXPlus 45GB 7200RPM ATA100 Quantum Viking IV SCSI LVD 68Pin 37GB 7200RPM 160 Creative Live X-Gamer First Version Adaptec SCSI 29160N 3COM NIC 3C905B-TX Hollywood Magic Plus If anyone has any insight into my dilemma I'd much appreciate it. Thanks in advance guys.

Hi guys! Clutch: you were right about the Clip which limits to 32GB but there was no jumper set for it. It just has no jumpers at all to set it for slave mode. I've got that same manual from seagate as well and even tried some of their utilities without success. I did the sector by sector format tool and diagnostics check all report AOK. Igor: I've already had the latest BIOS Flash for it and HPT controller recognizes it's model type but only sees it as 32GB. AlecStaar: It's set for autodetect but it's the HPT Controller BIOS on the Abit BE6 (original version) that recognizes the HDD with UDMA66 and up. And it sees it as only 32GB on boot as well. I was successfull loading WinXP Pro on it as well and it was formatted by WinXP Pro originally then by Win2K Adv. Svr. then by Patition Magic 5 and 6 as I stated in the original msg. I'm using it in WinXP Pro right now as a secondary slave. Thanks for all your responses. I just seem to be SOL. I guess I'll trade in for anothoer 60GB Maxtor which I've had no problems with on my other system. Thanks again.

First of all you do not gain any performance for partioning your drive and keeping your saved personal files seperate from your OS partition because they will still share the same bandwidth capacity off that single IDE cable. If you want to enhance performance (especially for capturing video , burning CD to CD or some other mathmatical strenuous exercise for your processor) then I would have my OS setup seperately on it's own IDE cable as the primary master with no partitions and a second physical HDD for your personal stuff (preferably as the Secondary Master on the second IDE connection). Hope that helps.

I know that some of Pinnacle DV cards (200 models and up) come with NT support for Adobe Premiere 5 and up. But that's only for DV cams not for 1394 IEEE external HDD's and other devices. The Canopus DV Raptor as well has support for DV cams on NT. Hope that helps.

Hi guys! Here's my dilemma. I have a main hub (10/100 dual line speed, autosensing, 24 port hub) that has three 8 port 10Base T hubs uplinking to it. The new main hub (10\100) was put in 8 months ago and was running smoothly up until this past weekend. For some reason now no traffic gets through to the 10BT hubs. I've tried every type of configuration for the individual systems (hard coding media types and duplexes) and routers without success. I then replaced one of the 10BT hubs with a 10\100 and it works. I don't like this solution as I will have to go out and buy additional- 10\100 hubs along with rehooking all the wiring. Is there any reason why a 10BT hub would stop talking to a 10\100 hub after 8 months? And just in case you think that my 10BT hubs were burnt out or damaged by power outages, they weren't as I fluke tested them and used one of them on another network still running 10Mb. Why in the world would it stop talking after 8 months? Usually if there's an autosensing issue it would be detected after the first shutdown and restart or in the first week of use. Well if anyone can answer I would appreciate. Thanx in advance

I just wanted to apologize first of all in case I've placed this message in the wrong forum. My am majorly up the creek here as I have to setup up a Win2K network with Active Directory Services running. I setup my Domain Controller with Adv Server Win2K and got started the installation of the ADS. When I got to the part where it asked me to enter the DNS that I have registered with an ISP I entered it (wackyday.ca) a message came back saying that it could not connect to the DNS server to see if dynamic updates was available. Just to let you know I have 2 Win2K Adv. Server running both running DNS with a registered DNS name "wackyday.ca" and that my DC is setup to point to that DNS in the TCP/IP setup. Can anyone tell me how to get my DC with ADS to setup with my DNS to get the global services? I am so screwed. Sorry again

Hi guys! I just wanted to apologize in advance if I have put this message in the wrong area. I have an issue with Win2K Advanced Server. The copy was originally just a 10 licensed copy so when asked how many licenses I would like on the installation I put in 9999. The install completed successfully with Active Directory but when more than 10 people try to use the network shares the 11th person goin on craps out with a message telling him that access is denied due to licenses being exceeded or to something of that effect. No matter how many more licenses I add on, the same result occurs. With old NT 4 you were able to add on licenses without a problem. What do or how do I go about attaining more licenses without reinstalling? If I have to call and purchase somewhere to attain the licenses, I wouldn't mind the phone # as well. I am about to launch my Dell PE 2300 through the wall!!! I am greatly indebted to anyone that can give a remedy. Thanx again.

Thanx for the response Clutch. I called into CompuAmerica Inc. and I found out that the $700 for 25 CAL license are just pieces of paper and are just recorded to Microsoft for legal purchase and no new media is sent out to install the new licenses. This will not fix my dilemma. Damn! Now I'm frustrated even more so than before. Anyone else have this issue with Win2k Adv. Svr? Btw I did take down the licences to about 80 and still no luck. Thanx for idea though.
