Do you know what revision your motherboard is? From what I can see here http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/gener...=en&lang=en first off that mobo does not support DDR2700 so there is one problem for you. Now I am checking an HP site as they are using those motherboards so that is where I am getting the info even though you may not have an HP system. however rev 2.1 seen here does support pc2700 http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/gener...=en&lang=en so check out the specs of the two boards. Am at work right now so can't help out more then that for now. S

MY 1MB INTERNET IS GOING HALF THE SPEED!!!!!!
thatsteveguy replied to barber_782's topic in Networking
Most ISP's have blocked ports associated with bit torrent. and in most cases they cap the downloads on those ports. check with your ISP to see if they are doing that and if so then you need to change the ports you are using from within torrent itself S -
See this article if you have an ATI X800 / Pro http://www.elitebastards.com/page.php?pageid=6201&head=1&comments=1 s

It is a really tiny app that displays your FPS while you play your games as a tiny number at the top right hand corner of your screen. You can configure it to display the realtime fps or an average of your frames per second, where you want it to display, the colour, the opacity, and so forth. You start FRAPS before you start the game you are going to run. Instead of installing a another program to get your FPS just open the console and type con_showfps 1 and change the 1 to a 0 if you want to take it off. to open the console just press ctr shift ~ that to me is much better then installing a program when the one you are running is quite capable of displaying that info. S True steveguy...This tiny app (640k soaking wet) can be used to get your FPS in any of your games, not just DOOM. Not everyone has the technical savy or guts to alter their program code. that is true but all games are capable of displaying FPS in game with console commands and a console command does not alter program code. I like my systems lean and running apps to get info you can allready get in game still means having something run in the background that you just don't need. S

Win2k pro or WinXP pro for this laptop?

I never have that problem with 2K. ( a little off topic I know but still interesting) S -
Win2k pro or WinXP pro for this laptop?

Desktop you could go either way, but for a laptop, XP is more often than not the better bet. With the specs you have there, I'd say XP. I have to disagree with that one. I have XP on my lappy now and it will be wiped and replaced with 2K asap and it's a 1.6ghz! XP is a resource hog and with those specs I would go with 2k. and for games not anything new would run on that. S -
Lavasoft's ADAWARE would be a good start. S

HD speed only affects game load times and does not in anyway impact gameplay so that should not be a concern. S

You don't mention which OS you are using but I will assume it is either XP or Win2k. Your problem may stem from the fact you are not disconnecting the USB printer properly. when you plug in a usb device it will be detected and you will have an icon appear on the bottom right of your task bar. when you want to disconnect the printer you must double clic that Icon and a list of detected USB devices will appear. clic on the printer and then choose stop. it will then tell you you can safely remove it from the system then you just unplug the printer and it will remove the instance of it so when you plug it back in it will just re-detect it and install again without the old instance of it showing up. Check for virus's.I would be very suspicious of what is happening. S

I have seen it shoot past 60 but only before the game acutally starts. I have my FPS displayed using the Con_showfps 1 command from the console. but when I am in the game even if I stand in a corner like you say 60 is the max. Even the multiplayer is locked. They did this on purpose to avoid texture tearing etc and to ensure an even gameplay etc across various video cards. I have to admit I kind of like the idea.Helps to concentrate on content and gameplay instead of FPS battles... S

well mine is running between 40 and 60. and no one will get higher then 60 because the game is capped at 60FPS. I'm running it on a P43.0E with one gig of 2700DDR (have to upgrade that to 3200 SOON) and an ATI x800 Pro. S

Wow this is an old thread resurrection. Okay this is what I got. P4 3.0e ghz processor asus P4C800 motherboard both were FREE. and an LG GSA-4120B 12x DVD+/- burner (does Double Layer discs as well) and that was $129.00 CDN. I lucked out on the processor and mobo and I couldn't resist the price despite having been an AMD user the last four years or so... S -
also in the bios see if there is an option for VGA booting sequence....AGP/PCI and change it to PCI/AGP. s

The newer ATI catalyst drivers have a removal tool for all their drivers and you can find it in the Add/Remove programs list. If you use that to unistall it is supposed to remove all refrences to previous drivers. try that S

Well seeing as I won't spoil anything for you and just so you can see how off base this movie is.. I Robot is about a journalist who is interviewing Susan Calvin about her work on robots and it involves a bunch of short stories about various models.first story about a little girl and her robot robbie, another about a robot who thinks he is a prophet and another about a robot that can read minds etc etc . nothing at all what this movie is about. This seems to be more a compilation of the Elijah Baley stories regarding his investigations of various murders and who may have commited them. S

thatsteveguy replied to vamshikrishnareddy's topic in Customization & Tweaking
I have a question about doing this that has been in the back of my mind for a while now and seeing as this thread is talking about SFC I might as well ask. I was wondering if their are compatibility issues once service packs are installed and you run SFC and it replaces files from the original win2k cd. Won't those files replaced be older then the current files you have (assuming your using SP4 as an example). Would you want to re-install whatever current SP your running after doing an SFC? Hopefully I have explained myself correctly but if you don't know what I am getting at let me know and I will re-ask with a better explaination. txs S -
Problems with Hyper-Threading and ATI 8500 Radeon

If their isn't a big diffrence in price where you are get the X800 Pro card instead of the 9800pro as the X800 is twice as fast.Sorry I am not helping with the original problem but just wanted to throw that out there. and just wondering something do you have Fast Writes enabled in the bios? the 8500 does not support them so try disabling that and see if it helps stop the freezes. also make sure that 8Xagp is disabled in the bios as sometimes it can cause a conflict with the 4agp cards even though they still default to 4X. How to VIOLENTLY delete files from NTFS partitions?
thatsteveguy replied to dr_st's topic in Customization & Tweaking
for future refrence this is what I do and what I recommend. When installing windows I create a 6 - 10 GB partition that is my C: drive and I install NOTHING but windows there. all My data, games etc I put on other partitions. that way whenever I re-install windows (which I do at least twice a year)I wipe the C: drive and re-install and that way I still have all my valueble data stored on other partitions. this is my current partition table C: drive 6gb (windows only) D: drive 30gb (games partition) e: drive 30gb (games partition) f: drive 30gb (video editing) g: drive 20gb (application partition) S -
yes spidey 2 is very good. enjoyed that one alot. S
