    intermittent freezing - win2k

and just out of curiosity, but your Wifi is properly secured? In that someone isn't warjacking you? Prolly wont' cause the freezing but you never know S

    Win2k pro question

I agree with all of you. I have used XP twice now and have always gone back to win2k, and I personally always recommend it over xp. All XP really is is a win2k interface that has been prettied up and filled with bloatware. Also another pain I find with XP is that regardless of what device drivers you uninstall when performing an upgrade the second you re-boot it just re-installs the drivers you just took out! So I find it's a real pain to do a clean upgrade without the old drivers kicking around. S

Best FPS of the past couple of years?

I think that it is one of the only games that really creeped me out while playing. although Clive Barkers Undying was creepy also. Those are my top two for great scary games although they are worlds apart in terms of feel and gameplay. S

    Max Payne 2

Quote: I have contacted Take Two on many occasions and they will not address this problem between MP2 and Windows2003 (Will not load), even though they stated to The Inquirer that they are aware of the problem... Have any of you attempted to install this game on a Windows2003-based computer? Well it is a server product and not meant for gaming so I wouldn't loose any sleep waiting for a fix. S

    Call of Duty Freezing

Many peeps seem to be having probs with COD although myself I have had none running it on a Radeon 9700pro at 6AA and 16xAF. I suspect your vid card may be your problem but try this forum http://www.gamingforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=699 and someone there might be able to help you out. S

    computer just beeps......

How many beeps? it could be bad ram or an improperly seated component like a vid card. make sure all PCI and AGP devices are properly seated (sometimes they seem to be in but need that little extra clic to get in right) and if you are using more than one stick of ram then remove one and try starting up with just the one. ATI 3.8 drivers and lockups

No big probs here with the 3.8's but have had that happen the odd time in a game. Did you try to disable the VPU recovery in the ATI control panel? just to see if that does anything. and is the screen saver openGL? S

BIOS Flashing - or rather, UNflashing

well your old bios should now be on the same disk you used to first flash the bios. So take a look on it and you should see the backup there. just flash again and instead put in the file name of the old bios (backup) and if all goes well you should be okay. but try what the others are suggesting first. If you can solve the problem and still use the newer bios then all the better for you. and in your bios there should be a setting for if you are using a PNP operating system.See what that is set at. and also sometimes when flashing a bios some drivers might need to be reinstalled such as motherboard drivers. It's not always the case but sometimes it can happen. S

BIOS Flashing - or rather, UNflashing

also when flashing it always asks first to back up the old bios before flashing so you might allready have it unless you said no.. You didn't say no.. right?! S

    Problems loading Windows 2000

I only have a sec so here is a couple suggestions for starters. If you have more than one stick of RAM then take one out and try installing with just one, if that fails try again with the other. also go to the manufacturer of your hard drive and download a disk utility to check your hard drive for problems. Remove everything but your video card and try installing again. IF that does not work then try the old card and see if you still get the problem. leaving work now and will try to check in with you later. S

    What Printer?

I would try to see if you could find a quicker laser printer as the cost of running an ink jet printer over a year in a business is just astronomical. What kind of laser printer do you have now and I might be able to come up with some stuff at work for you tomorrow on alternatives. S

Anyone play Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy yet?

I have, and no it is all new missions but with some old faces thrown in from the other game. This one you start off with force powers earlier, etc. The game is fun but I didn't find it outstanding or anything.Graphics are sweet though. I would recommend the game but only if you get it for a good price. S

    Worst FPS/Action Gaming Moments

Let's not forget the suckiness of 1) Omikron, should have been called Omygod 2) Klingon Academy (would have enjoyed it more if the AI didn't think the best attack was constantly ramming your ship!) 3)Elite Force Expansion pak. now that was a waste 4) Ending Grim Fandango (I miss Manny what can I say!) sure i will think of more! Think there will ever be a System Shock 3?

I hope so. I just replayed SS2 with the High Detail Textures that were released and it looked good. Hopefully they will do a 3rd one as the second was one of the best games I have played in a long time. S link for those textures is here http://www.sshock2.com/ S

How can i burn cds that look like retail cds?

I print CD's for all my courses using a Bravo Print Publisher. I buy blank printable cd's in both white and silver. You just design what you want on the cd and it will burn then print (and burn another) at the same time. It makes for some pretty good looking cd's. however there are draw backs to this method. The ink takes a while to dry so you can smudge them. So it is best to let them sit awhile. I have had to do many many CD's for work and I must say STAY AWAY from anything that you print then stick on a cd. The labels will dry and peel off possibly damaging the CD reader. I have yet to find a label that won't dry and peel after awhile. Now a Bravo publisher isn't cheap (about 2,000 US) but it has made my life alot easier especially if I have lot's of cd's to do I just start it up before I leave work and come back the next morning (and barring any technical problem) they are ready. You can stack about 25 cd's in the bin at a time. PS it does DVD's as well S heres a link and it works on PC's even though it's a MAC link I'm giving you. http://mac-pro.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=Bravo-cdr&Category_Code=P1 S

    User stealing data

First off check with local law enforcement to make sure that nothing you do is illegal. spyware might be yet other forms of surveillance might not be. What we would do in a situation like that is install a packet sniffer and redirect all network traffic from that machine through the sniffer. You can reconstruct everything they are doing. also when the person is away (evenings) I would go in and make a forensic image (sector by sector) of the suspect machine at which point you can mount the image with a forensic software (Encase being an example but I doubt you'll have that kicking around as it is about 4 grand) you can then go through the image (forensic software will also give you everything that has been deleted). One advantage to having the image is that if the person suspects something is up and does a wipe of their machine you still have an original image before it was wiped so you still have evidence. now when taking the image make sure you use a Hard Disk Lock so that no data can be written to the host drive. and I cannot stress this enough, DOCUMENT everything you are doing so that it can stand up in court if need be.
