I am looking to get my A+ certifacation, but unsure where to begin. I don't have a lot of free time as far as going to school goes, but I was hoping there were a few websites that offer online courses or study information. Anyone know anything that might help out?

Is it possible to add password protection to files on the server itself, and not allow other accounts to access such files. NOT on a public drive by the way. Can I achieve this by using the NTFS partition format? I was told it was possible. If there is any confusion; Say I have some secure documents in c:\docs. Is there a way to right click it and set it up so only an admin can access that directory? Any help would be great! My employer needs to know this asap.

I was hoping I could! So even if the restricted user is on the server itself, as long as he is on a restricted account I can set what he can see and use and what he can't?! I tell you, I have visited a lot of forums and this one always has me coming back. You guys are fast and know what your talking about. I appreciate your effort!

I haven't been on it for a month or so, and last night I figured I would try and see if it still worked. Even though they say evaluation copy, it still works fine. Can I continue to use this version? Is there anything I need to update? Is there a place to go via web or ftp that has the files I may need? Any info at all would be appreciated...thanks guys & gals

This is such a great and useful forum, and the people here really seem to know what they're doing! My question is this; I have searched this forum for Win2k tweaks, are there any good tweaks that I might have missed being new to this forum. I love the Irq8 registry tweak, made a big difference for my system, and I also tweaked my swap file and that helped as well. Is there anything else I can do to speed things up or make things run better or more efficient? I have a PIII 933 with 128 ram. Also at work we run Win2k as our server OS, any tweaks to boost network performance. Using tcp/ip as our protocol. We have to run windows 95 as our work station OS, if we use anything but 95, the network drags and stutters. But we want to upgrade our workstations to another OS, but until we get good performance, it's out of the question. If you need any specs on the network let me know, I am busy at the moment and have just enough time to write this. Thanks all!

Does cluster size effect performance in a noticable manner? What is a good size to use? This is one area I am not real familiar with. Any info on this subject would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks guys...this is a kick arse forum!

I get the same error under my new install of windows XP. I am starting to wonder if my installation disk is the culprit. maybe there is a slight scratch that is causing a file to get corrupt as it copies over to the hard drive. *sigh* I'll give my buddies CD a try and see what happens. Very odd

Had to go to work earlier so I had no time to give more info. I am running an ASUS P2B motherboard and it had the latest bios as of 2 months ago. My 128 megs of ram is pc100, my Geforce2 400mhz 64meg ram card is by visiontek and I got the latest drivers from them 2 days ago. I am running a clean install of windows 2000 and upgraded to SP2 when it was released. The game is installed in the default location and it plays the start up intros fine, but when it gets to the menu to either play or configure or multiplayer etc.. and I choose start a game it just pops up that message and when I click OK it exits out of the game. I can't figure this out, I have the latest drivers/files that I can get (that I know of) The game worked fine when I was running Win98SE, so I doubt it's a bad disk, everything seemed to install fine. Any idea's at all? Someone said something about maybe the WFP (windows File Protection) system was to blame..anyone think that is true? All people I have talked too say there game works fine.

I can get it to start up. By that I mean I can get to the menu. If I try to start a game, that is when that message pops up. I do have SP2 installed and have the latest updates for half life. I have the newest directX and the newest geforce drivers. I just downloaded Windows XP maybe I will have better luck with that, but I would love to get this problem fixed just because it is very annoying. It wouldn't be because of the windows file protection system would it? I am stumped
