WindowsXP File Sharing Through Router Problem

I have three computers in the network, it's basically a P2P network. But since I'm using the router w/ the DHCP server, if I only set up the TCP/IP the computers cannot find each other, they can access the internet but they can't access each other.... Do you know how can I make them access each other w/o NetBEUI? only using TPC/IP? And what about that WINS server you told me? Thanks! ftmiranda

  5. Hey ya! Here is the picture of the situation.... 3 computers connected to a D-Link Router D-i804 1st computer WindowsXP Final 2nd computer Windows98 3rd Computer WindowsMe All the computers have the settings to use automatic settings on the network, since the D-link router has a DHCP server built in, it assigns IPs for all my machines. But There is a problem.... The computers are not able to see each other! I'm pretty sure that all computers and the router have the same domain name. Before I installed WindowsXP I have Windows2000 Pro, and the sharing file option would work if I install NetBEUI, but since WindowsXP does not support NetBEUI anymore, is there an another way to make the file sharing work between they OSes(XP, 98 and Me). I can solve the problem by installing NetBEUI to the XP system, but is there any other way to make this file sharing work w/o NetBEUI? Like jsut using TCP/IP? Thanks a lot!!! ftmiranda

Linux boot loader removed for Win2k

The best ans easiest way to remove the Linux partition is to have a win98 boot disk, hehehe I'm serious! Boot without the option to load the CD-Drivers, in the prompt run fdisk, just follow the menus on how to delete the NON-DOS partitions. after that go to the prompt, type fdisk /MBR, this will remove the linux boot loader. The problem is.... you will have 2 partition rihgt now, it you want to merge these partitions you can use PartitionMagic... I don't know if the Disk Manager of Win2K does this type of function(merge partitions).... I personaly do not like partition magic.... use just as a last option.... PS: Why take linux out of your box? Linux is GREAT!!!

    Internet Sharing

Hello, I wish to know what devices are available to share internet through several stations. I saw the Linksys cable/DSL router, but is there(in the market) somthing similar to it? Or something better thatn that? The main point is that I need a router that have a DHCP server built in to broad cast the internet to all stations.... could be w/o the DHCP server too, but I'm looking for security as well, so.... Any comment is welcome! Thanks ftmiranda

    Gigabit Network question

Hello, I have a network, 3 computers, a server and 2 workstations. The topology is pretty much Star and it uses a Server/Client approach! If I change the HUB(10/100) to a Gigabit HUB and change the cards just from the server and one workstation, will the gigabit ethernet still work? I mean at full speed, even though one of the stations still have the onld 10/100 NIC? The computers with the 1000 NIC will be affected if they are communicating just between them? Or will the workstation with the 10/100 NIC slow down the whole network? Thanksss ftmrianda
