Driver - GT Interactive in Win2k, help!

In the Display Tab for DirectX8 Then in -> "DirectX Features" - DirectDraw Acceleration 'Enabled' - Direct3D Acceleration ' Enabled' - AGP Texture Acceleration 'Not Avaliable' I have looked in the 'Box' and there is no Video Card 'as such' nor is there an AGP slot, The video comes straight off the motherboard. Though on the installation disks and in "Device Manager" in Win 98 & Win2K the Video is called ATI Rage AGP ... In DirectX 8 in Win 98 the AGP texture support is 'Enabled' Any Suggestions?

Don't you wish you were me?

I also connect with good 'ol 56k, Though i had to replace the original 56k modem (3COM U.S. Robotics) after 3 years because it got burnt out + plenty of BSOD:( in Win2K (ie the modem was Phucked)- I'm only on the web 150hrs a month. Now i unfortunatley have to settle with a Lucent Win LT Modem 33k. Though here where i live the phone lines only allow for 29.9kps, if i'm lucky i'll get 32.6bps. Yeah thats right, my question was, how does your modem manage being connected so long, Even my LTWin Modem has trouble reconnecting after a few hours of being online. What kinda sk!t do you d/l, the largest file i have managed is Win2K's Service Pack 2 (Network Install), i have also downloaded 2K's SP1 (Network Install), NT4's SP5, NT4's SP6a(128bit) Cheers.

VDMSound 2.0.4 (NT Sound emulator for DOS)

Tested on WinNT4 SP6a K-6 333mhz 3DNOW, 64mb PC133 RAM, 32mb TNT2 M64 Video. Keen 4e - Works Fine Wolfenstein 3D (Full ver.) - Works Fine Halloween Harry - Works fine Doom2 - Having some trouble here, Works without VDMS, but when run with VDMS - intro screen freezes music may play for 2-4 secs, then Doom stops responding. For the other three, the sound works sweet, though is delayed, like half a second. Oh and the sound in Wolf3D can be "crusty" at times. I have checked out http://zdoom.notgod.com/ and have downloaded Zdoom1.22, i'll se if it fixes it.

OK, so whats so dandy about WinXP

I haven't tested XP at all and am just curious what to expect. I have read a number of articles about and posts here @ ntcompatible, but it just seems to be WinME "Bells & Whistles" with the rock solid Win2K architecture. I guess the biggest advantage With WinXP that i have read a lot about is the compatibility, stability & security. Though i don't think Win2K falls to far behind XP in any of those criteria except maybe "Games" compatibility. What do you's (The BETA Testers) say about this? Is it worth paying money for the upgrade from Win2K when XP comes out? (Win98 -> WinME was definatley worth paying money for ) Cheers.

OK, so whats so dandy about WinXP

So what sys. requirements do you recommend? _____________________________________________________________ One thing i think is quit riduculous, is when going to Windows 95 'windowsupdate' site and it says "Still running Windows 95, get ready to upgrade to windows XP" (Or something like that), considering 80% of people running Win95 use a 486 or Pentium1, with like 16mb RAM. _____________________________________________________________ OK, it is reasonable to think that WinXP runs faster than 2K, However this is only so on "Fast Computers (PIII +)" where XP can take advantage of new technologies (P4, Rambus, Firewire ect..) where 2K is maybe slighty crippled. So my question is, How will XP compare to 2K on an older machine, like PII 400mhz, 128mb pc100, 8mb AGP 2x Video. Another thing, what are the pros & cons of 'XP Home' compared to 'XP Pro'? Cheers,

    Laptops & Win2K

I will often browse through the latest computer catelogues checking out models and prices. What i really don't understand is WHY ARE ALL THE LAPTOPS COMING OUT WITH WINME For exampel, in Dell's latest catelogue, it has written on the bottom of every page "Dell Recommends Windows 2000 for Business" Yet most of the laptops they sell com with WinME. With Win2K's proven stability, security & compatibility (Yes Compatiblity ) & improved power saving features, why would anyone buy a laptop with WinME, with no security, short on stability & bloated media software? Heck, buggers me
  7. I run Win2K SP2, With Zonealarm 2.6.231 (Free version) Every once in a while "Services and Controller App" wants to access the internet. Sometimes i allow it, some times i don't, it doesn't seem to make a difference. Mostly it just asks for internet access, and sometimes to act as a server. What does it do, and what point is there in allowing it to act as a server and/or access the web? Cheers.

    I Just Love Hibernate

I have been using Win2K now since the beginning of this year on Dell V400 PentiumII 400mhz, 128mb ram, 8mb AGP ATI Rage. It really is a great operating system, and i'd just like to say that Hibernate is the best thing in Win2k, i will usually leave 6-10 apps all the time and just hibernate, then boot up in around 10 secs, and i'm where i was:D Win ME has it to, i know, but if you leave to many apps open then it cannot return from hibernate, besides the hiberfile.sys for WinME is only half the size, while Win2K has one as large as the momory - 128mb. If it wasn't for virusscan updates constantly then i wouldn't have to do a clean boot-up for weeks, & performance has hardly dropped a notch. I just love hibernate:D

Am I the only one who thinks Win ME sucks?

This has been quit a heated discussion, I'm not really surprised. Anyway i guess i'll post my opinion, Personally my experience with WinMe has not been real bright. I ran it on a HP4404 333mhz K6-2 3DNow, 32mb TNT2 M64, 96Mb SD RAM. Along with Win2K & Win95 using Powerquest Bootmagic6. I regret replacing Win98 with WinME, for many reasons, though the main one is the fact that WinME runs Most games very "Chunky" compared to Win98, (Driver, GTA2, Outcast, ect...). Win98 was definatley superior in the gaming field. Secondly it is rather a bloated operating system, i can not understand why things like MovieMaker, MS Media Player7 ect.. cannot be excluded during the installation, Let alone not be able to be removed at alater stage!!! (allthough M$ is renowned for it, hey just look at IE packaging into the OS's) Hey, BTW, just a question to anyone willing to answer, do you's reckon that MovieMaker can be removed by simply deleting it, then running eg. M$ Reglean to clean out the registry after? Hey, just a thought. Seriously, what percentage of people running WinME ACTUALLY HAVE HARDWARE THAT CAN ACTUALLY IMPORT MEDIA!! ;( Though i must say the restore function is pretty cool, considering i had to use it a few times It boots quicker, wow now thats a bonus Well, thats my opinion. Sure it has it's place in some homes, for the most Win98 does just as good, better in many cases eg. games. PS the reason i run Win95 is that after i got WinME running Win98 won't install.... at all... on the computer without a multitude of critical errors (Bios was changed by WinME), Thanks M$ Righto, Cheers.
  10. I noticed that there are instructions for creating a W2k Cd with Integrated Service Pack. How do i make one for NT4 is it done the same way? I have just downloaded SP6a 128HighEnc. for NT4 and want to use an exsisting original NT4 CD to copy to Hard Disk add Service Pack 6 and Recopy to a CD. Oh is there any way of Integrating Internet Explorer 4.01 on to the CD aswell, to automatically install with the operating system? Cheers, Curt.

    Where is QuikVeiw for Win98?

I have been searching high and low for freakin quikview.exe for Win98. I realise W2K & winME no longer come with QuikView, Why??? I Ask??? I am looking to use Quikview for Win98, in Powerdesk4 on W2K. ... It isn't as confusing as it sounds, i have found qiukview for Win95 on some old CD i had lying around and i was able to use that for now. I simply right-clicked the quikveiw.inf file and 'install', since the install.exe wouldn't work in W2k. But Quikview for Win95 has such poor support for viewing files so i want to get hold of the version used in Win98, i have searched Win98 CD's ect.. but can't find it. Any Suggestions??? Cheers.
