Does anyone know why Fighting Force immediately crashes under Windows 2000 ?
I suspect it has something to do with EIDOS's ESCAPE player, which installs two, apparently NT-unfriendly files, WINSTR.DLL and WINPLAY.DLL .
My question is, are there any workarounds for this ?
I've tried to find updated versions of said DLL files, or patches for Fighting Force, and found neither.
Could it be the fact that I was running the game off an NTFS partition ?
It crashes as soon as I run it - no display mode changes, nothing.
I've tried all the options in setup, Win95 compatibility mode TAB, lowering sound acceleration, different versions of 3dfx drivers- 1.00, 1.04 and the one from x3dfx.com .
When I don't let it access the two WIN****.DLL files, it quits by complaining that it can't find them...
Any ideas ?
