    3DFX + GeForce = GeForce FX ?? Hmmm

Quote: This cooling does have an advantage: The GPU won't put as much heat into the case. Overclockers, rejoice! the memory clock is 1000 Mhz and the GPU clock is 500MHz. Question: why they don't just use a Pentium 3 CPU instead? it is going to be the same!!! may be even cheaper!!!

    3DFX + GeForce = GeForce FX ?? Hmmm

Quote: Good god! That is huge!. I usually don't have enough PCI cards to necessitate using every PCI slot---and PCI 1 is usually left open...but still the loss of a PCI slot isn't terribly attractive. I hope nVidia will do something to deal with the heat better. I'm waiting to see if they justify the ATX case and motherboard factors!!!! I love ATI all-inWonder serries. recently ATI has been good with drivers and support. besides i could call them anytime during business day without paying a long-distance charge!!! I have problems with AMD. somehow any AMD athlon older than a year needs a bigger heatsink and fan than what it already has. In my experience they just overheat by themselves. I'm happy with my P4 for now.
  3. Quote: 1) When you have 2 rows of tasks on xp taskbar, and you minimise a task, it defaults t row 2 always. This is very annoying. (I run manymany windows and tasks at once) 2) XP has too many fuity popups and wizards and the stupid search dog and bloatware. 2k is a teeny bit better imo. I've been using 2k since rc1. to fix all that just go to system properties/advanced/performence settings/ and just check the effects you want for taskbar right-click the taskbar and uncheck the part that says "group similar taskbar buttons" you can change almost everything (not everything thou )
  4. Quote: ...Or made mistakes in quote formatting... thanks for correcting Perfectionist problem. I appreciate it. I said i'm an idealist and a perfectionist, and I never said I am perfect. In fact i say it out laud and clear that I DO have so many lacks and i admit it. I thank you guys anyways and i'm sorry for ending up being on some people's wrong side. I don't usually spell check my quotes because it is not all that important. You guys know what I mean...
  5. Quote: Start/run/srvmgr or start/run/cmd netstat -a "nameofcomputer" or netstat this works even better. Thank you DosFreak
  6. Quote: for my personal use i have not bought a single software from Microsoft in past 3 years and i never regret it. Because they dissapointed me when I payed for it. For people who care to know how i got the licences, i got them from work. i payed for 98, and the company that i work with payed for ME and 2000.
  7. oh well.... i guess i have been over reacting. i don't think there is anything wrong with buying windows, but i'm an idealist and a poerfectionist. if the person or company that i deal with (personally) doesn't treat his clients right, it is not going to have my business. on the other hand i said i don't pay for "Microsoft" software product because i know they don't care to give you support if there is no money involved for their goofups. i have deal with Ulead, Ahead, Lavasoft, nad many others and everytime i contacted them i got a decent answer. Also i contacter Roxio and they never gave me the right answer and i won't use roxio products and if i have to use it i have rather not to pay for it. same goes with MS. the day they support you on their goof ups then i pay for my OS. i have full licence for 98/ME/ and 2000 and ME was a disaster, 98 was a little better than ME and 2000 had problems with Video for windows and they never gave me a decent answer to my problem. XP so far is the best one as long as i don't have to deal with MS directly.
  8. Quote: Right click on "My Computer", select "Manage", and then expand "Shared Folders" and open "Sessions". That should show all the ..... the name of the target computer. Nice tips. I'm just learning how to use this administrative tools. it is really cool that you can do everything from here. I'm still learning!!!!
  9. Quote: It's my opinion that regardless of what 'other' software you have on your pc, you should at least have the OS be legit. Explain to me why, Ali, that Windows 2000/XP is not worth the price to legally obtain? honestly only because i have better things t do with $300+ to pay for the OS. on the other hand, you pay the money and for the support you still have to pay another $270 when you need help from MS. i may pay for an os that is really supported, and they don't ask me for my credit card number when i call them. I work for a computer company and whatever i do is legal according to all oem standards. but still they won't proivide you with the support when you need them most. (sure if you pay for each question you ask they will treat you nicely, but each one is going to cost you or your company over $270US) for my personal use i have not bought a single software from Microsoft in past 3 years and i never regret it. Because they dissapointed me when I payed for it. Do you actully buy Windows even though you know if anything goes wrong your best bet are people in NTCompatible, not Microsoft?
  10. Has anybody here actually tested them? I haven't. but the day I really have to pay for a copy of new OS is the day i'll be looking for something that works and is good enough to work with. Linux is a much cheaper solutionthan windows, and it looks noce too. but i am lazy to go and learn Unix!!! if someday i have to pay to Mr. Gates, i have rather to consider all my alternatives first.

    Motherboard Problem

you could probably ship it to AMD yourself and get a replacement from the manufacturer directly. they may chargr you for the shipping.
  12. Hey has anybody used Lindows yet?
  13. Quote: Here's my credit to XP, which I've said all along. If you have to purchase a new OS, get XP only because it will be supported longer than 2k. There. oh come on.... you can do better than that!!! now that we are done with XP lets talk about Lindows!!!! Sure sounds nice!!!
  14. the problem comes when you take your computer to a computer shop and ask the service guy to reinstall windows. so the tech guy will just put the windows cd in there and soon enough finds out there are lots of problems with the installation of windows. Fdisk, whick is the simplest form of partitioning program does not delete the annoying non-dos partiotion. So he has to take the HDD out and use ghost and ghost it over with any other HDD and OS, then partition the whole thing again. it you think this message is too long, yo ushold think about the tech guy in this story who has to waste a good 30 min to find out his client has used partitionmagic. !!! I really like Win2k and XP CD for partitioning. it is simple, fast, reliable. People have their own reasons to use partitionmagic.

    windows xp problem

could you use a spam killer like Ad-Aware to stop it or this is something ....rather ....odd? they use your computer like an add panel in the subway. oh i hate that. we see enough adds in our life anyways. why they have to (practicly) hack into your system to put thoes ads there?
  16. Quote: C:\Windows2 or whatever is fine... You can install to the same drive, but I would recommend against it, as there could be some file location problems when programs are installed, etc. I agree, use two partitions and the installation will do the rest for you!!! Very easy!!! 8)
  17. For some reason i hate partition magic. it seems to mess things up easily. for the paging file stuff i can tell you under 2k nor XP i could get it to do what i want it to do so i have given up on that a long time ago. x) if you want to improve the performence of XP a little bit more, disable all the fancy shadow and fasing stuff in system properties/advanced/ under Performance click on setting and get rid of all checkmarks. leave the rest to the OS to decide. life will be much easier.

    Ok Win2k problems

Quote: no this is a fresh install. have 2 games and icq 99b (no spyware there) LOL any ideas? I have not disabled any "services" yet. any suggestions on that as well? Do you have a local network? (or highspeed internet?) once i had a problem like that when a computer was connected to Lan, but that was XP home. I don't remember how we fixed it. Also once we had somebody here with a similar problem and he said he was able to fix it by disabling some onboard component on the motherboard (like the second serial port) it may not be a solution but it could be a start. use task manager and see what is going on the performence charts. that can help too (CPU usage and mem. usage) i hope it helps a little bit ;(
  19. yes... but there is this little difference. If you have been forced to use Win 9x for some years and you are used to "Winipcfg" and "msconfig" when you encounter Win 2k for the first time it is dissapointing that you can't change what's on the startup as easy as before, however you will be very happy that you will not be using "winipcfg" ever again, because there are better ways of working with your ip's. If win 2k has something easier to use than "msconfig" i whould have been happy. i hope you see my point now. why you people can't take a little joke and give some credit to XP!!!!!

    Ok Win2k problems

Quote: Ok win2k shutdown takes like 20 secs. All my 3d games takes between 10 to 20 secs to exit back out to desktop after quit is selected. Mouse is jerky and sound is jittery sometimes when playing mp3's and games. Sp3 is installed, dx 8.1 agp miniport etc. any ideas? Do you have "THINGS" runiing in background? Do you have SPYWARES and spam softwares? ESPECIALLY do you use KAZAA! just clean up those junk stuff.
  22. then you may need to use more than one computer as servers. Even if you want to setup workgroups and peer to peer network you will be limited to 10 computers per workgroup. ;( if he is worried about $$$$$ let me ask you, aren't windows CD's made in china? you don't have to activate it like [size:24]XP[/color] you know!!!

    2 screens with xp

Quote: If you have a good desktop motherboard with intergrated video, often times you can either: A. Disable onboard video B. Use onboard video for a second monitor Food for thought. no offence, but name a GOOD, (in terms of quality and reliability) motherboard that came with S3 graphics on board (exclude compaq AMD labtops, and PII and older motherboards)
  24. yes... so that is one for XP and nothing for 2K!!!!
