Going to upgrade from my Athlon 750 MHz system. The system will be used mostly for general tasks, Word, Publisher, Excel, light audio work, CD Burning, DVDs, and some gaming. I plan on getting this: Intel Pentium 4 - 2.4GHz / 800 FSB CPU Abit IS7 Mainboard 2x256 MB DDR400 Memory ATX Case with 350 watt PSU LG 16x DVD-ROM The rest of my old components should suffice for my PC: ATI Radeon 8500 / 128 MB Video Western Digital 80GB ATA100 7200 RPM Hard Disk LG 52X CD-ROM LG 32x/10x/40x CD-RW Lucent 56k Modem Linksys USB 10/100 LAN Will probably use the onboard audio, but also have a Sound Blaster Live. Just wanted to ask a question on if there is a big difference between Dual DDR333 and Dual DDR400 with the 800 FSB processors?

The board is an Abit IS7, its got great OC options, good divider settings and voltage options.

Hey just wondering how the overclocking goes on the P4 2.4C? My motherboard has great potential with OC. If I set my FSB to 250, I can get 3 GHz, I can lock the AGP/PCI bus, and I think I can keep the memory stable at 200 by using the 5:4 CPU:DRAM ratio divider right? 250 CPU to 200 DRAM? I just might need some extra cooling.

Ok here is what I picked up, Intel Pentium 4 - 2.4 GHz / 800 FSB Kingston 2x512 MB DDR400, the guy actually charged me for 2x256 DDR400, which is what I asked for, but when I popped it into my PC, I have 1 GB of RAM. Now that I like! Abit IS7, Intel 865PE Motherboard ATX Case, with Enermax 350watt PSU.

How does the bandwidth of Dual DDR333 and Dual DDR400 compare to that of RAMBUS 1066? I know RAMBUS is pretty much dead technology, just wanna compare. I have really been out of the loop on computers lately. Last time I was into this, the Athlon T-Bird was running around as the best.

If I have an old 12x CD-ROM slaved to my ATA100 hard disk will that cause the hard drive to be slower? What if I slave an ATA33 drive to an ATA66/100 drive? Will the 66/100 drive use ATA33 speed?

Yeah I think it is time to get a new CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive. They are cheap, and I could use the extra speed. 52x here I come.

I thought I would just throw a vote in for the Mac, but I would never use Linux, Mac maybe when hell freezes over.

I dislike WinME period. I used it for a while and got blue screen of death errors all the time. It ran my games slower and had trouble working with some old DOS programs of mine. I got rid of it and slapped Win98 and 2000 back for a nice mix of power and compatibility. Something WinME can't do either way. Plus Windows Media Player sucks, IE 5.5 is older than the real release, and movie maker is crap.

I am having trouble allowing someone with a Win98 computer login into my Win2000 computer. I wish to transfer files using a Parallel cable hooked to LPT1, can someone walk me through the process, I have tried several possible solutions like setting up a guest account, a power user account, but every time he connects I get an unauthenticated user trying to connect and he can't get to the files. I have made sure that the IPX protocol is there and all the settings are correct. I have to use Win98 to transfer files but then my PC becomes unusable because of 98's slow and pokey networking capabilities.
