Quote: thankyou every1 for your help, but I don't have the RAID version of the motherboard, just the plain vanilla KT7A. Maybe you have enabled the antivirus in the BIOS or you have write protected the boot sector? try disable them

did you do a full format when you install the windows? see if it has any bad sector or corrupted boot sector. if you have a working computer, plug the harddrive in it and run something like scan disk or norton disk doctor, see if it has error. I think your harddrive is physically damaged.

Don't upgrade to WinXP if you want to use the card. If your games work in 2k, then use 2k, otherwise, use 98

actually you just pick the folder that contains all the inf files.. then it will pick the correct inf automatically.

how to move all clients documents n settings to server ?
FatFish replied to oaydin's topic in Networking
create a GPO, give the user a roaming profile and redirect the my document folder to the one of the folder on the server. do the same to the startmenu too -
your system spec is fine, however someone has problem installing with RAID setup on this forum. But if the error comes after the first reboot, you probably has a bad copy of winxp.

HELP! "System Idle Process" almost freezes compute
FatFish replied to shassouneh's topic in Software
That's the way it should be. It claims the process cycle to cool down your cpu when its idle. I think the lagging response is coming from your harddrive, sometimes it needs to spin up. -
Quote: You hard code your internal LAN NIC on the cable modem PC to something like 192.168.0.10, i think it should be 192.168.0.1 if you use 192.168.0.10, you have to change the other computer's gateway to be 192.168.0.10 too
-
can the machines ping each other? Did you enable the internet connection sharing on the machines that us connecting to the cable modem? Once you have enabled the ICS, set the other machine to get IP address automatically. if you get the cable disconnected error, set one of the machine to 10Mbps or 100Mbps.

Quote: The exception to booting off the CD is if it's an older CD drive. Old BIOS won't do it either. and if your CDRom or BIOS won't support booting off CD.. use the 9X boot disk, and run winnt32 from /i386

that looks normal.. but check it when it says low in memory again.

newbie question... sorry, how do i make a domain on my netwo
FatFish replied to HELLBRINGER's topic in Networking
run dcpromo.exe in command prompt. this will promote your server to a domain controller. or oyu can run server configuration in the administrator tools or control panel.. couldn't remember. p.s. make sure you have a correct name in your computer before promotion.. if you type in the wrong name, there is no way to turn back. -
someone is saying that winxp is loading too fast for the truevector.. so if you want to use zonealarm, either starts it manually or try to find an old dos program called wait.exe... then make a batch file to make it wait 10 sec before loading the zonealarm.

um... i think there is a memory leak in your system... go to task manager to see which program is holding your memory.
