I have one win2k and one XP machine. I have to let 30 users acces to some files. This i can do. But Is there a way of sharing just one file that requires a password to access it. Im using guest account ATM. I have been playing around in users and groups trying to create a new group that requires a password to access this one file but it just comes up you do not have access. Any ideas how I might get over this ? Arian

Win fixit utilities3 works ok with both Win2k and XP. You can edit start up reg in that and auto logon. Its around 18 megs so too big to mail shout back if you want it and i will try to find a URL for you. Arian

Just wondering if anyone new of a file sharing proggy for Win2k. I need to open up the guest account and share files. No problem here, but I would also like to password some of these shared files. I know it can be done by creating diff user accounts but just wondered if there was a simpler program. Arian

Defo back down your O Clocking m8, till youve dissproved it dont even turn it up one little bit. That very thing has caused me some grief. Even had the nv4disp one myself. Shot through loads of drivers and still the same. Backed my machine down and all came right. Ps also had trouble or said it did about the Tapi installed. Good luck and hang with it, XP is worth it.

Yes ive had to roll back from a 1200 @ 1507 to 1400. Thing is it kept throwing up all diff errors that i didnt manage to identify as a o clock problem. First it was throwing graphics errors at me then tapi spent an age getting it right. Well worth it though im prepared to take a perf hit for this much stability in an os that plays all my games well.

Hi. I didnt knwo where exactly to post this so ill try here first. I have been running XP for a couple of weeks now and am impressed. Even though its RC1. What i would like to knwo is can you upgrade from Win2k to XP. I have read about putting it on seperate partition but I cant do this on this particular machine. I have found out ill be my microtek scanner missing. Not much of a problem as ill shift to another machine. Does XP upgrade WIn2k and save system files. Ie can i uninstall later and revert back to WIn2k. I have two OS on this machine Win2k and Win98. Id like to get rid of win98. And id like to be able to uninstall XP and revert back to WIn2k but not sure if it is possible. Arian

I think if you search your PC for the SYSOC. file you will still see a few lines showing as hide. Delete the hide wordings to expose more windows install options.

Just give up loading XP on my KT7a. I have had 12 attempts and formatted in between ect. Making sure the HPT370 Drivers were taken on pressing F6. Every time the OS got to the bit where you put in local settings like keyboard and currencey the thing kept locking. I mean every time. Sometimes it would let me input the options and others it would get there and lock. Any ideas !! Im gutted as im well impressed with this OS. It loaded on my older KT7 board without a hitch. The only thing missing or diferent is the fact that this board doesnt have raid. Any pointers are greatfully recieved as i simply must use this OS on my main machine. PS Tried Win98 upgrade and clean install.

Very strange this. I was trying to load it on this machine till 4AM yesterday. Three times it got down to 1% to go and then locked. Or i thought it had. I had left it for 20 mins each time this happened to see if it would finish. I juat kept giving it the reset. The last time I just left it in disgust. When i awoke around 11AM the OS had loaded. I didnt insall HPT370 from disk and yes it did drop its own ones in. Thanks for your help guys. Appreciated

I think youll find that unless your running 2 cards that the bios switches to the AGP setting if no PCI is detected and vica versa

I thought i would lose my scanner to my main XP machine. Well if its any use to any of you the beta win2k drivers work fine. The version is 260RC1. Arian

I think im missing the plot somewhere here. I cant seem to get the folders to all hold their ICON settings. When i go back to a folder after a reboot theyre all resett to TILES. Any pointers appreciated

Well i had a bad problem on one of my HD. All my fault. So i gave it a fresh install. Damn shame really as i havnt had to touch this disk for nearly a year now. He he oh the fun of a total reload. Thanks for you ops though much appreciated.

If XP plays well without tweaking. And it does for me then it defo gets my vote.

I got this occasionally on a Overclocked Win2k machine. Pushed it too far. If it is OC then just put it back to normal until your fixed up. I was told it was driver conflict but not too sure I backed the machine down and its not happened since

I have actually managed to run two games on XP that I always had slight problems with under 2K. One was Q3, and the other was Total Annihilation. Both workd perfectly straight out of the box. Im very impressed with this OS.

I got to say it I love this OS. I too got totally hacked off with win98, didnt bother with ME. So went the route of Win2k. Most of my games play ok on Win2k but not as smoothly as Win98. I say not so smoothly I found Q3 not to play as well but i think this was eother due to low screen refresh rates or slow mouse or both. Total Annihilation an oldie I know but a classic didnt like running on 2k. It often crashed out on load up and always gave the Direct X error warning. With XP my games seem to ME to run as near as good as with win98. When i say as good I mean they play smoothly (Q3). I dont get the direct X error warning on Total A. I havnt even run the compatability on eiter game. They just run like this out of the box. Great !! I dare say 3DMark scores may be a bit lower I dont know and I dont care. The human eye can only cope with around 45 FPS anyway. I used to go benchmark crazy but I cant be arsed now I prefer to play my games. I give this a big thumbs up for games. But thats only my personal opinion. Which im entitled too.
