Yes, I have had the same issue with IE6 on XP. Pages come up blank and I have to refresh to view them. Even msdn download login page ( http://msdn.microsoft.com/subscriptions/resources/subdwnld.asp then click on LOGIN)will not display so I have to use win98 or winnt system to get the latest MSDN downloads. In addition, I have updated IE on my W2k system to IE6 and it will login to MSDN but will not download via the download app. I removed IE on XP using the Add/Remove Programs and then found IExplorer.exe in program files folder. I created a short cut to that file and sure enough, IE6 popped up even after I uninstalled it! The icon was removed from the start button but the app was not. I use the Add/Remove Programs control panel to add it back and it just put the icons back. The files in program files folder were the same. I guess M$ doesn't want IE removed from ... uh ... their systems. After the reinstall, as I suspected, I still could not login to MSDN with XP. I comiserate with you!

If you have the NT/XP boot menu then you have those files on your HD. They are just hidden. But forget about them.... To fix your problem, just boot to a WinME boot floppy and at the a:\ prompt type: SYS C: That will restore your winme boot info the way it was before XP was installed.

Its actually a bootstrap thing! When you dual boot, several NT bootstrap files are placed on your hd (ntldr.exe, boot.ini etc). This removes the dos boot you once had with ME. You can set the default boot "default=C:\" in the BOOT.INI file to be C:\ with a timeout of 0 and it will boot into WinME. Remove any listing in the [operating systems] section that refer to the XP partition and leave the line beginning with C:\. Now you can use SYS.EXE from a WinME boot floppy and it will replace the NT BootStrap with a DOS bootstrap (msdos.sys, IO.sys, Command.com). I'm not sure if your system will autoboot into windows afterwards but if it doesn't just add the "WIN" to your autoexec.bat and it will go into windows.

Nope! Nothing wrong with the config... Its the exact same one and its how I like it. I have my winme on the first partition and the XP on the second. Both use the Q3 install on the first partition. Anyhow... I downloaded the 14.70 drivers and as you guys suggested, it boosted my FPS on XP side to 100 FPS on demo Four. All is well!

I don't play FPS often, but is there really difference between 68fps and 150fps? i mean the number is different of course, but can you tell the difference when you are in the game? Hey, I downloaded the 8.05s (12.42.805)Mid August recommended by eddie from a thread in the Gamers XP forum. They were the unofficial leaked ones so I believed they were the latest and last month probably were. Don't fret though, I saw that the 14.70s were out and I intend to install them this weekend! sheesh you guys act like you are the only ones who know what's up!

Yeppers! The GF2 MX 400 is not the screamer you'd think! I bought one by PNY and installed it on my SE-440bx2 Intel board using winME and XP Home. Using the 8.05 drivers, I was able to muster 68 FPS in Q3 which was no better than my V3/3000! So noting that the MB I had didn't support agp 2x, I opted for an Abit that supports AGP 4x. Of course I had to register XP again but that's another story. Anyhow under winMe, my FPS was boosted to 75 FPS but still 68 on XP! Ok so I read a little more and installed the Via 4in1 drivers and WHAMMO! On WinME I got 150 FPS! WoOT!!!!! I tried the VIA 4in1 on Xp and it couldn't find the correct INF file so I'm still at 68 FPS on XP! I'm still looking for an XP 4in1 install. Anyone know of one that works on XP? Should it work on XP? Ok I updated my XP HOme RC2 with the 8.05 12.42 nVidia drivers and Q3 gained 9 FPS so I'm upto 64 on my PIII450 with the G2 MX400. Taking vsync off lost 1 FPS though. After up[censored] Q3 from 1.29f to 1.29h I gained 2 FPS so now I'm upto 65 FPS under XP which is just as good as the WinME partition. My MB is an SE440bx-2 Intel board and there is no setting for AGP 2X or 4X! ARRGH! The Appeture was set for 64 already. It seems my MB is the reason for the G2 not performing as good as others post and not XP as I thought.

Thanks for the tips! I'll try that on my PIII450 with the G2. It would be excellent to get the G2 humming faster on XP HOME RC2! I'm still puzzled as to why would XP Pro RC2 still have less FPS using a V3/3000 on the same system that duel boots to WinME? Maybe the default V3 XP drivers aren't very good and I should replace them with the earlier W2K drivers. Since both the XP Home and XP Pro are duel boot with WinMe and since WinME is faster for both V3 and G2 cards on my systems, wouldn't any hardware or bios tweaks make WinMe faster too? Does XP take advantage of those tweaks where WinME would not? The reason I bought the G2 is because of nVidia's XP support where 3dfx, now defunked, has none. Still confused I guess...

I have been testing XP since March and I can say that with v3/3000 card on a 533 celery/256 Abit VH6 mg: WinME (IDE DISK 1) Timedemo results of Demo Four Q3 1.29h = 63 fps XP Pro RC2 (2526) (SCSI Disk 1) Q3 129h = 48 fps My GF2 400 nets 61 with the same q3config on a Piii/450 192 mg Intel 815 using XPHOME RC2. (640/480 all options off except Simple items, vertex, super tweaked) Now I've been running Q3 since the first three room pre alpha hit internet so I'm very familar with how to tweak Q3 to run well. What I can't understand is why my V3 ( 1.15 V3 Drivers) on a WinME Cel 553 runs better then my Geforce2 (12.41 drivers) on PIII450 with XP HOME RC2 using the same Q3config.cfg file! I realize I'm comparing two different systems but even the duel boot V3 running ME is gets greater FPS running demo four than the V3 running XP as well! What else can I set in XP to increase FPS? I just don't see XP better then ME on two different systems. Atleast for FPS but for "Game Play smoothness", XP is better. *scratches his head and hopes anyone can make sense of what he wrote*
