win2k and old ipx game issues

Howdy! I’m trying to play Lords of Magic multiplayer on my LAN using win2k. Its just two computers set up with one using win2k and one with win98. The issue is that the win98 box cannot see the win2k host listing in-game. When the win2k box tries to join the hosting win98 game it sees the game listed but cannot connect. I’m finding it challenging to figure out if it’s just a setup issue with the network bindings or something with the game code itself. I'm now trying to bypass messing with the settings and try the quick and dirty solution "ipx emulation". The current options ive tried are these. won.net - win98 box seems to be able to connect to other games online but both machines get "unable to connect to host" when trying to connect to each other. kali - I’m trying to find a FREE solution presently so this is on the back burner. MSN gaming Zone (ipx area) - didn’t try to connect after seeing an error window "works only on win95/98" I would go in deeper as far as specs but this is pretty wordy as it stands and the solution could be as easy as pointing me to an app that was well known to most but I missed. That last statement had a lot of "as" in didn’t it? Anyways any help would be... well... helpful
