my motherboard has the dip switches and sound (I dont use the sound, I am using instead a Soundblaster Live! board). I checked the manual that came with my Asus A7V and noticed that in the cover in the upper right side there is a number E601 (which refers to the manual revision 1.03 E601). All the dates in the manual refer to the year 2000. The cover describes the product as Asus A7V Jumperfree PC133/VC133 200MHz FSB AGPO Pro/4X socket A Motherboard

Q. Games stutter with my GeForce. How can I fix it? Make sure you have the latest drivers installed. Make sure that you have closed all programs before you start the game - press Ctrl-Alt-Delete and select all the programs one by one except 'Explorer' and 'Systray' and click 'End Task'. Even if a program says that it is 'Not Responding' after 20 seconds, you should still be able to close it. If the problem persists, switch off your screensaver and desktop background before starting the game. Make sure that you have enough RAM free to run the game - try running a RAM recovery program before starting the game or putting some more RAM into your system. If you are experiencing stuttering with Unreal Tournament or any games that use the Unreal Tournament engine, read the 'How can I speed up Unreal Tournament on my GeForce?' question first. The following solution is outlined on this page: http://www.daytonsmisc.com/article1.htm Make sure that Video BIOS shadowing is disabled in your BIOS. If you have a network card installed, try setting the connection type in the Network Control Panel from the automatic sensing option to the type of network that you use (10BaseT / 100BaseT, full / half duplex). If your AGP Aperture is set to 256MB, try changing your AGP Aperture to another value (keep it above 16 as setting it at or below 16 will disable AGP) Try ticking the 'Disable support for enhanced CPU instruction sets' box in the OpenGL tab of the NVIDIA Control Panel applet. You may find that switching your desktop colour depth to 256 colours helps with stuttering problems. You can try disabling auto-mipmapping in the NVIDIA control panel. This has helped some people with stuttering problems: however, it may result in reduced image quality and overall speed.

I went to the Asus web site and there is no mention of different version of the A7V motherboard, and looked all over my motherboard and it only shows A7V qith no other letter or number after. My motherboar is not that new I got mine about 8 or 10 months ago. I belive that most problems with the motherboard are driver related. make sure you always use the lates drivers. Also there are some seting in the BIOS that help to keep the machine more stable, specially if you are using a NVidia video card: The settings described here should provide maximum performance and stability (for any motherboard not only A7V): Fast Writes - Enabled. AGP Mode - 2x or 4x, depending on whether your motherboard supports AGP4X or not. AGP Driving Control - Auto. AGP Master 1 WS Write - Enabled. AGP Master 1 WS Read - Enabled. AGP Aperture - see 'What should my AGP Aperture size be set to?' question. Assign IRQ to VGA - Enabled. Video BIOS Shadow - Disabled. Video BIOS Cacheable - Disabled. Video RAM Cacheable - Disabled. C8000 - xxxxx Shadow - Disabled. Peer Concurrency - Enabled. Concurrent PCI Host - Enabled. PCI Streaming - Enabled. VGA Palette Snoop - Disabled. You can also try these settings if you are having problems: Memory hole between 15-16MB - Enabled. A note about ACPI: Windows 2000 and XP takes advantage of ACPI, with the side-effect of slapping all your cards on the same IRQ. If your video consistantly locks up after only a few moments of playing a game, you've got an IRQ-sharing problem. The following setting is for people experiencing this problem: Plug and Play OS Installed: Set this to NO Another thing to consider is heat, I keep my machine without one of the sidecovers (its a tower) Also make sure that the power supply and case is really certified by AMD. some cases and power supplies can not put out a stable flow of energy for the Athlon (check it out here: http://www1.amd.com/athlon/config) Also check the following info: http://www.teamanarchy.com/writeups.php?idx=986866324 I hope all this helps... (my computer has been on for 5 days without a single reboot, crash, error or similar)

I have a ASUS AV7 with a Athlon TBIRD 1.2, and a Geforce 2 pro card running Windows XP without any problem. previosly I was running Windows 2000 on the same motherboard with a 1 Ghz TBird also without any problem. I am still using the 1002 bios version. I have not upgraded because I dont have problems. But I have heard of some people having problems exactly with this combination of hardware and Windos Xp or 2000. There is good advice about configuration at http://www.athlonoc.com and http://www.geforcefaq.com Also make sure that the memory you are using is of good quality.

This is exactly what I did: 1. Deleted Sound Blaster live! (WDM) and Game Port for SB Live! from the device manager. 2. Deleted the following files: from the System32 Folder: ksproxy.ax ksuser.dll wdmaud.drv from the Drivers Directory in the System32 folder: ctljystk.sys gameenum.sys 2gmgsmt.sf2 drmk.sys emu10k1.sys ks.sys portcls.sys stream.sys 3. Renamed Driver.cab in the Driver Cache folder in the Windows directory to Driver.cab.bak 4. Rebooted windows. 5. Installed Liveware 3.0 for Windows 2000, which I had previously downloaded from the creative site and copied to my hard drive. (it will install drivers and applications, I did a custom installation leaving out the creative launcher that does not work) after it finished the instalation I did NOT REBOOT and copied the files included in the fix, I did NOT SUBSTITUTE ANY FILE, the ones that were already ther I just skiped. 6. Rebooted windows and renamed Driver.cab.bak back to driver.cab and now everything is working excellent!!!
-
I just followed the instructions on the fix (substituting files as indicating and instaling the liveware 3.0 for windows 2000) now every is working. I have sound in the 4 speakers when I play music, cds, games etc. and all liveware applications are working.

for everyone that is having problems with their soundblaster card driver, sound and applications and Windows XP, go to Wxperience.com and under the device driver section look for Creative Labs Soundblaster 5.1 Fix for XP and follow the instructions. I did it and everything is working, except the creative launcher bar (Which I dont need). I have sound in the 4 speakers and all applications included with liveware 3 for W2K work just fine. I am using Windows XP build 2526 and a soundblaster live value (It also worked with Live! MP3+5.1)
