Has anyone else had this error when trying to run the beta? Any suggestions on how to get around it? It seemed to run fine the first time I executed it, but when I tried to change to full screen from quarter screen, it started giving the error that Directdraw failed to initilaize. I finally reinstalled from CD and re-extracted the files from 11hwin.zip, hoping that starting fresh would help, but to no avail. Any ideas?

nope, not running any monitoring utilities. It seems to run fine if I run it with no sound, though. Using the default VDMSound settings and I haven't encountered any problems in other games. Countdown is listed on VDMSound's compatibility list and doesnt mention any problems.

Does anyone have any suggestions about how to run Access Software's "Countdown" (1990) under Windows 2000? I couldn't get the installation program to run, but by just copying the files and running the .exe in a full-screen window, I was able to start the game. The opening screen came up and the first soundfile played, but after that, the program locked up. A review and download is available at http://www.theunderdogs.org/game.php?name=Countdown

doh! Just tried to download the package from www.freedrive.com and got the following message: Effective September 24, 2001, FreeDrive will no longer offer TestDrive membership plans with 5 MB of free storage. We will continue to offer a free plan, however, the new plan will only allow members to receive shared folders – it will not provide any storage or outbound sharing privileges. TestDrive accounts will automatically be converted to new free accounts with 0 MB of storage, effective September 24, 2001. Anyone else have a copy hosted anywhere?

The following is from microsoft's support website http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q193/3/85.asp ------------------------------- Clear the Cache and History Clearing the Cache may resolve some errors that you are receiving. Follow the steps below to clear the cache, then try downloading the component again. Click View (for Internet Explorer 4.0) or Tools (for Internet Explorer 5.0). 1)Click Internet Options and then click the General Tab. 2)In the Temporary Internet Files section, click Delete Files. 3)In the History section, click Clear History. 4)Click OK. Clear Contents of the WindowsUpdate Folder 1)Click Start, then click Programs, and then click Windows Explorer. 2)In the left pane, double-click the Program Files folder. 3)In the left pane, double-click the WindowsUpdate folder. 4)In the right pane, highlight wuhistv3.log and click Edit, and then click Invert Selection. 5)Press the Delete key (or right-click and select Delete). Click Yes to confirm. Note: Deleting the wuhistv3.log file from the WindowsUpdate folder will clear the entire Windows Update download history. This is not recommended, as you will have no record of previous downloads. The steps delete all files except the wuhistv3.log. ------------------------------ I would suggest following these steps and then rename the wuhistv3.log file referenced above to clear your update history and see if the updates you need are available. Once you get what you need, correct the logfile's name to restore your download history. You also might want to check out Microsoft's Windows Update Corporate Site http://corporate.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp. Here, you can search for drivers and updates that you can download and save locally. It's geared toward IT Professionals that need to download and redistribute components throughout an organization. Hope this helps.

I'm trying to run Trilobyte's The 11th Hour under Win2k. The compatibility list shows that trilobyte made a 32bit .exe that would allow the game to be played in 2000, but it seems that their website is down (or gone for good). Does anyone know where I can get this executable, or is there another way to get the game to work? I'm using VDM sound to bridge the soundcard, but whenever I try to run the game, it appears to load without errors, but then the screen blanks, and I'm returned to a DOS prompt.
