I haven't reinstalled my XP since March.

My friend recently installed a SB Live 5.1 on his KT133 based motherbard and he gets random BSODs in emu10k1f.sys. Any ideas?

My friend solved it by up[censored] to the latest drivers.

98 fater than XP. HAHA. Since I upgraded to Win 2k and then XP, I have never looked back. Windows 9x is nothing but CRAP. It is slow, unstable and now DEAD. Since changing to an NT based OS, everything has been faster and more stable. Seti@Home is one example, it takes a lot less time to complete a workload on XP than on 98. Mp3 encoding has improved in speed. Quake 3 performence is also better. I also like the extra stability of the NT core. All the XP computers u have seen must really have problems then.

I was under the impression that ATA66 should be UDMA mode 4. It seems wierd. My CDROM is ATA33 which should be UDMA mode 2 but XP reports UDMA mode 1 for the drive. The drive could be faulty though. I have a ATA66 drive that refuses to function in DMA at all. But the BIOS and Win 2k say it works in UDMA. XP just says PIO Mode. P.S. Does the computer take ages to boot?

Check to see if the drive is running in Ultra DMA mode. It's in device manager under the IDE channel that the drive is attached to.

Well, I find that Media Player offers much better sound quality. But really it's a matter of opinion. -

Who really cares if Media player uses more resources to play. Most modern systems can easily play using WMP hardly breaking a sweat. Your computer would have to pretty much suck, if it couldn't handle WMP. I fully agree with Intel chipsets being the best though. -
What format is the corrupt HDD, NTFS or FAT32? If it's FAT32 you could try a Win 9x bootdisk to access it or a Windows 9x based system. If it's NTFS u could try Win 2k based system to read it.

ME has no access to REAL DOS mode. But I find that ME scans the PS/2 port faster giving better mouse control. I had sound issues on ME with my computer so I had to use 98se until I got Windows 2000 and now I finally have XP pro. ME also apparently has BETA versions of IE and Windows Media Player 7 in it. It really depends on how much space you are willing to allocate to the 9x partition and if ME is compatible with your system.

I'd say you have the Infinite Loop BSOD. It happens with most VIA chipsets using NVIDIA XP drivers on either Win 2k or XP. Try the latest 4 in 1's. They may help you.

I've seen TNT2 PCI cards and I also think they make Geforce PCI but I am not too sure about the Geforce PCI.

Winamp's MP3 decoding is inferior to WMP. I find Media player has better sound quality even with SRS turned off. Also I find that winamp has difficulty decoding some songs in the way they don't sound the way they do on CD but the same mp3 is decoded and played correctly on WMP. But I find Winamp is good on weaker computers cos it uses very little CPU time. Winamp also has plugins which can be useful. Sucks was a bit off plot. I still say that Windows Media Player is best by a mile. -

Winamp sucks. Use a decent media player. Windows Media Player is the way to go. -
I have a friend who tried to install Windows 2000 pro. But when he puts his video display at 32 bit colour, it causes the sound to crackle while lots of video activity is going on (like Windows media player vis and games). The weird thing is that at 16 bit colour all is fine. He has a GA-7ZX giga-byte m/b which uses the KT133 chipset and he is using the onboard audio which is the CT5880. The video card is a generic Geforce 256. Anyone have any ideas?

Yeah they both share IRQ 9 using ACPI. Also tried the latest drivers but I know he is planning on buying a sound card.

Strange. It should bring up the User Accounts screen used on Windows 2000. Here's the command again, control userpasswords2 I am using Windows XP pro and I think it only works on pro
-
type this at the run command "control userpasswords2" Hope that is what you are looking for.

Well I am using the 21.85 drivers and my computer decides to blue screen with nv4_disp sometimes when I go to play a game. Using GeForce 2 MX on Win XP Pro

Does anyone know how to shutdown a Win 2k machine from the command prompt of another win 2k machine?
