slipstream an already slipstreamed Win2000
Tomay replied to Silver-Dagger's topic in Everything New Technology
I tried to slipstream my w2000 sp1 to sp3 and it all went fine. I don't think there should be any problems sp3 to sp4. -
Check if your CPU or GPU aren't overheating.

I also leave my comp running 24/7. The only thing that the fans get noisy after a few years of non stop running. Maybe if I shut it down they wouldn't. And the hard disk spindle bearing has a limited time of operation too. If you really don't need your computer at night for more than a few hours turn it off. Luckily I don't have my computer in the same room that I sleep in cos it's noisy and in the summer it really warms the room. And don't forget that it's using power and someone has to pay the bill. Let's say it uses 100W that's 2400W/h per day and 876.000W/h per year 8) I don't know how much is that in money but it sure sounds a lot. EVERYBODY TURN YOUR COMPUTERS OFF AND SAVE THE EARTH!

Unplug everything from the mobo except ram, keyboard, graphic card, monitor and cpu. Still nothing. Did you try to reset cmos? Replace the batery. Some mobos won't boot if they don't have a working battery. Try another cpu or mobo.

First try tvtool http://tvtool.info/index_e.htm. Then unconnect everything from your tv (e.g. vcr, antenna...) I couldn't get a tvout picture on my sony before I unpluged the antenna from my tv. Than try if your tvout works at all. Connect the TV and unplug the monitor. Than turn the power on. You should see the boot screen on the tv. P.S. check the cables and stuff first. Post back if it helped.

I replaced my QDI BX chipset mobo with a celeron 300A @ 450 with a ABIT VH6 with a PIII 800. I'm running windows XP sp1, and after replacing it didn't even boot, so I did a repair of my windows install. It worked ok except that he computer sometimes hangs on suspend or hibernation. It stops at the "prepairing to hibernate..." screen. Yes I have the latest via 4in1 drivers. I noticed that it still loads 440agp.sys driver at boot. (i have added /sos in boot.ini) Where can I see the driver/services it loads at boot. Is there bootlog.txt like in win9x. Should I do something before i swithced from intel to via? I took an old hdd and did an fresh install of xp's. And guess what everything's fine, and it doesn't load 440agp.sys but it loads viaagp.sys and viaagp1.sys ;( How to remove that stuff and how to know what to remove.

My gigabyte geeforce2 mx came with a heatsink but no fan. If you can see the chip you better put a chipset cooler or some kind of heatsink on it. You can try to run without but you will most likely have lockups in 3d games. If you can hold your finger on the chip for a minute it's not too hot

I have a us robotics external modem. It works fine. The problem is when it connects faster than 33.600 (e.g. 37.333) and I'm downloading something or just surfing it rarely reaches 1kb/s. If it connects to 33.600 it goes up to 4 kb/s. I tried other modems and computers, all the same, so I figured that the telephone company somehow limited my connection to 33.600. But I don't want to bother with them. So I tied to enter AT&N16 at the additional settings of my modem configuration, but it has no effect. Is there any other way to do it or is my AT command wrong? Does someone know why AT&N16 has no effect? Please help.

Had a similar problem on my mustek. It had an externel power supply. 12V. So I just took the cable and used the power from my 12V computer PSU.

Check out sygate home network http://smb.sygate.com/products/shn.htm. It's not so hard to setup.

I'm running a celeron 433 @541 with 192MB ram with w2000. I have 2 3com ethernet cards, one for networking and one for my cablemodem. The only problem is the that when my firewall and other stuff when running eats away all my memory. Than the computer gets slower. But in terms of processor speed you're good to go. And do get a ehternet card. I you can't afford a 3 com get some cheap one. Anything is better than usb.

I run via hyperion drivers on an "old" chipset, and I have no problems. Try running memtest http://www.memtest86.com/ you have to create a floppy to run it. If you recieve any errors your ram could be faulty or you're running it at too high speed. What os are you running?
-
Yes but it's just a configuration difference. There has to be a way to remove drivers previously used by intel. I'm gonna try regedit, cos I found these entries under services. I need to figure this out, cos I change components alot. This is the fourth mobo in this system, but had no problem before (all previous boards were intel based).

Try with diferent ram or graphic card.
-
No way I can do a fresh install just cos I replaced my mobo. It works fine if both mobos have an intel chipset. 440agp is also used for my intel 815mobo. Don't know why. I just need a vay of telling wich processes/driver are intel / via specific and how to change them.

First look if all your drives are running un udma mode. Then run a cpu test program to see if the cpu performance is correct. (Sisoft sandra) Check for newer bios. Install intel aplication accelerator Try to connect your hdd to the mobo instead to promise controler. Try to remove the promise controler. Try to remove the sound card. Remove everything but the cpu, mobo, gpu, hdd... Wait for new chipset drivers Wait for new bios P.S. use my advice if you have nothing else left, maybe someone will come with a better and faster solution. Good luc

you can tweak stuff, overclock your cpu, gpu ... I know that you can use diferent config files for q3 based games to enable and disable stuff. Did try to do it mayself but edned up without textures and with strange lighting... But the biggest trick of all is ... ... Get a faster graphic card

I think it's called ECC error control and correction. It should give more stability to a system but it's ment for servers, cos it's a bit expensive.

First what os? Second: You don't need a driver for your cdrom. I have 4 writers and 3 cdroms and don't need a driver for any of those sice win3.1. Not even my teac scsi cdr needs a driver. All new os's include already support cdroms without a driver. (in most cases) According to Windows Hardware Compatibility List it should work with w2000. Try checking for a firmware upgrade.

try dvdx

intel cpu & intel chipset mobo (i personaly recommend abit).

There was an update for 3d gpu's and an update for faster cpu's. Check out manufacturer's site and google.
