Go for p4c 3,2G cos it's faster than the prescott. Check the reviews on abit p4 boards, they seem to be picky with ram. Maybe in this case an asus p4p or p4c would be a better choice. (I am personaly an abit fan) BTW why don't you get a faster amd barton cpu and an ati 9800xt. But I'm sure none of this system will be a "lot" faster than the other. You have a capable motherboard and a fast cpu, what do you think you are going to benefit buying a p4 3,2 or an fx?

http://www.msfn.org/win2k3/ This is a guide how to convert w2k3 server to a workstation. I'm sure a lot of this options exist in w2000 server too.

Can boot 2K from floppy. Need to make drive bootable
Tomay replied to Ron_Jeremy's topic in Software
Not much you can do there whitout a cd. Don't know if you can download the bootable set of 4 floppies for win2k. however if you can get a cd try to run this two commands from the recovery console. One is "fixboot" and the other "fixmbr". -
Are you running service pack1 or at least an usb2.0 driver?

Read this: http://www.dansdata.com/io031.htm Quote: SCSI super-drives aren't a good choice for desktop machines. A high-priced 15,000RPM SCSI hard drive may well load a big fat game slower than a commodity 7200RPM drive. This is because SCSI server drives top out at capacities well under 100Gb, while commodity drives with capacities well above 200Gb are commonly available. If you've got three times as much capacity, three times as much data passes under the heads per second. That triples your sustained transfer rate, all other things being equal (which they won't be - number of platters is a factor - but never mind that for now). A 15,000RPM 73Gb drive is only mechanically capable of 61% of the sustained transfer rate of an otherwise similar 7200RPM 250Gb drive.

Hi-Performance for 2k/XP/2000 56k OR Cable
Tomay replied to akiss's topic in Customization & Tweaking
Quote: P.S.=> Any system w/ 2000-XP-2003 w/ 256mb of RAM or more & NOT USING A HOME LAN, with either CABLEMODEM or 56k Dialup internet access respond excellently to this set of reparameterizations... apk Does this mean that my lan will not work anymore after applying these settings? Will this work if my cablemodem connects via ethernet nic? -
Try something like Adaware and delete all the cookies from C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Cookies.

Hi Alec! It's a while since a saw a post from you. I'll have to throw a lot more old stuff away, cos my room is filled up with computers. I really don't need more than 4 computers and I have at least 10 of them. Most of them old AT's and they're just taking up space so I had and I'm going to have to get rid of some. Nobody wants to buy this stuff not even for 1€. But there's one old 486 i'm gonna keep. it's a amd 5x86 133 OC-ed to 166 or 160 can't remember, but it's good for playing some old games. Still have a voodoo1 laying around somewhere, but no time really to play those games. Sorry for the off-topic post I guess I got carried away 8)

No go. The "old" connector on the ATX 12V psu's is used for 5V and 3,3V. So pluging it into an old mobo would not be a good idea. I throw away my AT supplies so they must be chaeap as hell.

check if all the files are readable with a program like cdcheck or simply try to copy the whole contents of the cd to your hard drive. -

Disabling Ctrl,Alt,Del at startup (Win2000 Server)
Tomay replied to bobbert2512's topic in Everything New Technology
Go to Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Local Security Policy. Browse to Local Policies - > Security Options. On the right windows pane, scroll down until you find Interactive logon: Do not require CTRL+ALT+DEL, double click and then select Enabled It's taken from w2k3 but I think it should work for w2k too -
Vice city help needed, Error installing....
Tomay replied to mtw101's topic in Everything New Technology
It looks like it can't read the files from the cd. Check if the cd is scratched or dirty. -
This happens with any program or just with ventrilo?
-
Probably not, but you can check that with sandra. Go to Mainboard Information and scrool down to somethink like this Memory Module(s) Memory Module 1 : 128MB 16x(8Mx8) SDRAM PC133U-333-542 (CL3 upto 133MHz) Memory Module 2 : AMD 128MB 16x(8Mx8) SDRAM PC133U-333-542 (CL3 upto 133MHz) Memory Module 3 : 256MB 8x(32Mx8) SDRAM PC133U-333-542 (CL3 upto 133MHz) you can see all the modules in my system are PC133.

Adding HD using raid span: can I keep the installed windows?
Tomay replied to ConQueso's topic in Hardware
You can also mount a drive to an empty ntfs folder in disk management. You can then put my documents or whatever is taking a lot of space there. If you have a raid capable motherboard or a raid capable controller. You could ghost it to another drive and then do a span and ghost it back. It would require a total of 3 drives or you could save the ghost partition to a cd (or to more cd's) If you're using a new raid card make sure you install drivers first, before ghost, otherwise it may not boot. -
Oh yeah BTW this is a NTcompatible forum. For linux go to linuxcompatible.org.

Custom file type associations won't save
Tomay replied to Curley_Boy's topic in Customization & Tweaking
Right click on a .ccs file and choose properties, click on Change... and select wordpad. OK and OK It should now open with wordpad. -
If you have two or more network connections you right click on one and choose bridge connections. No idea if it will work.
-
what would happen if you would bridge those two connections? It's free and it's worth a try.

An Interesting Problem (Ghosting form one machine to another
Tomay replied to shassouneh's topic in Software
Quote: Dear Tomay, Your trick didn't work. I did as you said, and repaired the installation, but all that did was the next time I tried to boot is I was presented with Windows XP setup, and had to pretty much re innstall the OS. Also, in the setup, I get an error message that says "unregmp2.exe - Entry Point Not Found. The procedure entry point GetIUMS could not be located in the dynamic link library MSDART.DLL" HELP! No idea! It worked for me. I'm using winxp pro sp1 (no other updates except for the worm blast fix)
