Did you try to run windows in safe mode with networking? If that don't help try to boot from windowsXP CD and try logging in to the recovery console. (it asks for the administrator password) You could also try to repair the windows installation. (backup before you do, just in case)

internet dials wen puter turns on
Tomay replied to Radioactive Frog's topic in Everything New Technology
Do you want to dial the inet when the comp starts up or do you want to get rid of it? What os/sp are you running. -
Most benchmark programs like sisoft sandra can tell you that. http://www.sisoftware.net/ Then under mainboard info you can look up the memory speed. You can also run the memory test and compare it with other systems.

Quote: (Oh, they'll probably design options to scan only for newer virus, but... watch, that's when the 'old classics' will start reappearing as well to counter for it. Sound crazy? Hey, it's not... there are folks out there that archive virus' believe it or not...) In my case a plain email database (not compressed) takes ages and a large amount of hdd space to scan. I don't think just scanning for newer viruses vould speed up things alot, cos decompression is what takes up most of the time and cpu. My friend used to collect viruses back in the old days of 15xx, but there are sites and ftp servers that host zip files of viruses . And even if there were no such sites I have accidentally burned a few viruses onto a cd-rom myself.

You could bridge the connections but broadband uses only a fraction of the nic's bandwith so I doubt it would change anything.

Changing Product Key on Win2000 without reinstalling
Tomay replied to imisak's topic in Everything New Technology
I know m$ released a kb article about doing that in the xp's. -
There is probably a link in the registry that starts this program. Run regedit and search for "vxdmgr32.exe" Delete the entry and the system won't bug you for that file anymore.

LAN speeds and SATA on KT600, compared to any other chipset
Tomay replied to Hipshot's topic in Hardware
I'd say false. The biggest slowdown on my computer when somebody copies a big file from me is the firewall. It uses 80% of my cpu time. And both the nic and the hdd are no match for the pci bus. The nic can't go beyond 8MB/s except if you have gigabit lan. I have a sata capable mobo but no sata drives, maybe someone else could test this. -
Cannot Install nvidia display driver
Tomay replied to HUGH_SMITH's topic in Everything New Technology
What mobo, what graphic card? Try installing the latest chipset drivers (e.g. via 4in1 or intel chipset inf) -
Try removing the network card and firewire first from the device manager and reboot, if still the same error occures try to remove the network card phisically from your computer.

It doesn't really make sense because people who will want to counterfeit money will do it one way or another. BTW I don't see the point of using an image manipulation software for counterfeiting when you can use your scanner and printer as a photocopy machine.

AFAIK insyde makes bios software like award or ami. You need to find your laptop manufacturer. Quote: Insyde Software Partners Leading companies such as Acer, Arima, ASE, Canon, Casio, Clevo, Compal, Compaq, Hewlett-Packard, Hitachi, Kapok, MiTAC, Sharp, Siemens-Nixdorf, Sotec, Symbol Technologies, and Twinhead have incorporated Insyde Sofware products into their mobile designs. from http://www.insydesw.com.tw/en/Ps.asp?id=119 so one of them is probably your laptop manufacturer and you have to go to their site to find a bios update.

But then again who else would want to play a stupid old game? Even some of the new games suck. It's like the old movies I guess, from time to time everyone needs some classic.
-
There is dosbox But there is an OLD COMPUTER. Best way is to get an old comp with win98. Win xp just don't support some games period!

Did you try power toys? Quote: Tweak UI This PowerToy gives you access to system settings that are not exposed in the Windows XP default user interface, including mouse settings, Explorer settings, taskbar settings, and more. Version 2.10 requires Windows XP Service Pack 1 or Windows Server 2003. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

PII 400Mhz Laptop Wont Install Windows 2000
Tomay replied to Nick601's topic in Everything New Technology
I have this issue from time to time and I just try to boot again from the CD. It starts fine after a few tries. -
Check the event logs for something unusual. Rightclick on my computer -> select manage. (there you'll find the logs)

If you have a ps2 mouse you can set the report speet in the device manager under "mice..." Additonal settings. You can set it to 200 reports per second not 200 MHz. I'm sure your mouse would get quite warm at 200 MHz

A very nice article. 1 thing I'd like to know is what are those cable types like RG-59 or .500" and what does 22AWG mean(I know that computer psu cables are 18AWG). RG-59 coax have an 22AWG core, but how thick is that. Here in europe we measure cables in square milimeters. How do this cables translate to metric?

Did you try to download the drivers from compaq. You could look inside the box which sound chip is used and get the drivers for it.
