I have set up windwos xp on a celeron 1,2 with an ati rage128pro ultra GPU. It runs ok but the fade effect in windows xp runs really slow in stages so it takes 2-3 seconds after you press the start button until you see the menu. I have tried different drivers, but no luck so far. I have expirienced similar problems on my radeon9600 if I don't deinstall the old drivers before I install the new ones (e.g. switching from cat3.7 to 3.8 ) Anyone knows a solution for this or had similar problems. SPECS: Celeron1,2 Qdi Advance10t (via chipset) Ati rage128pro ultra 40GB samsung HDD

Have checked all of that. No issues. It's a fresh install of winXP.

Latest drivers and latest via4in1 it ran fine but not on the same mobo

I'm sure winrar would do the trick but it's not free so try arj32 http://www.arjsoft.com/files.htm it's a command line tool but I think it'll do. the command would be something like arj32 a test.arj *.* /v700M /y the /y switch answers yes when asked to proceed with next volume.

I've seen some very instable athlon xp systems caused by mostly cheap ram or motherboards, but I've seen a mail server running suse linux with an duron 1GHz wich is up 24/7. So you see like myself the cpu isn't that important for stability, but the quality of other components is, so I saved money buying a celeron but invested in better Mobo and ram. And my rig is rocksolid running 24/7.

I use celerons from the time they first came out C300A and I also had a few pII and pentiumIII processors so I know what I'm talking about. It depens on the price. I'm sure you don't get twice the performance of a celeron 2,4 in a P4 2,4/800 but the p4 costs twice as much. My celeron calculates a seti unit in aprox 4,5 hours. It reaches 8900 3dmarks and almost 10000 overclocked. It's good enough for me also playing games doing some video and audio editing from time to time. I'll probably get a p4 when they become cheaper.

Did you try to install via combo audio driver from http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=328? Make sure that you install the latest via 4in1 drivers http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=300 before the audio driver.

I use realVNC or radmin. These are remote desktop tools. Try them if they suit your needs. -
Some players like Bsplay have a screen capture function.

If something doesn't break I don't reinstall windows. But I change my computers alot so when I get a new one or a new HDD I do a fresh install.

According to some test the P4P800 is a bit faster than the P4C800 but you won't see the difference, but if you ask me I'd go ABIT here. For the Video cards I'd go for less ram and more speed: http://www.power-color.com/r96a-c3n.htm Quote: Core Speed 400MHz and Memory Speed 300MHzx2 (600MHz DDR) http://www.power-color.com/R96-D3G.htm Quote: Core Speed 400MHz and Memory Speed 200MHzx2 (400MHz DDR) Check this pages to see that the 128MB ram version uses 300x2 ram speed and the 256MB version uses 200x2. The price is the same 'cos they use slower ram. So check before you buy. Not many games need more than 128MB ram.

No you can not, and yes you can buy converters, but the're pretty expensive. Only if your mobo supports ide raid you can build a raid array (e.g. ABIT ST6-RAID) You can get 2 sata drives or you can make a software raid (win2000, xp... supports it). Or you can forget about raid 'cos it aint such a big improvement.

Try http://www.abit.com.tw/test_report/IC7-MAX3/02.php I know they didn't test any pc2400 ram's but you can compare the chip types they use. Hard to say what's the best choice it was easy for the mobo wich is the best ... ... I wish abit would make ram

Don't know if it'll help but try tvtool

I had a dual vga setup 1 agp and 1 pci graphic card. But not all pci cards work with all agp ones. Make sure you try before you buy. My best experiences were with ati pci cards. Any old pci card will do the job and they are very cheap.

Quote: For some reason this is what powerstrip is saying mine is running at: Memory clock - 337.50 MHz Engine clock - 378.00 MHz Does that memory clock setting look low to anyone No cos it's ddr memory so it's 337,5*2=675Mhz

OK. BTW for much of the slaughtering in the world is done by USA or the USA can be blamed for. Ask the people of iraq if the USA has helped them. Of course all asked by CNN, NBC ... will say yes, but the real public opinion goes against USA. Bottom line is Bush is an idiot who is playing with the lives of milions and should be removed from gene pool! -
what about avg, and kaspersky lab http://www.avp.mu/?

Check for overheating (cpu, gpu) Check stability with prime95 and memtest.

Latest drivers (both sound and chipset), latest bios + Sometimes disabling (muting) sound inputs and outputs improves the sound. Try to mute everything you don't use (cd, mic ...) + Also disable your Joystick in the bios. But best of all, get a creative sound card, or any other sound-card. (almost anything is better than te onboard sound)

Sygate is very good.

See if you can find w2000 drivers and use them. Also try www.driverguide.com

At least you know that the PC speaker works. As far as I know the mobo wouldn't beef if the psu wouldn't power up. Are you sure that the psu fan isn't spinning?

Get a utility like NVrefresh tool.
