I am using version 41.09 det's, but it has been doing this with various versions of the drivers. I have tried connecting the hard disks to the Promise controller and it did the same, although I think a little less frequently, except that when I shut down or rebooted the computer the hard disk made a funny noise, like the heads were hitting the side oh the HD!! Ill try up[censored] the Promise dribvers and see if that makes a difference, but I have the latest BIOS, first thing I tried. Ive been looking around the BIOS and there are no setting to enable DMA or PIO, and the bootup screen (the one after the screen that sez 'press del to enter setup') finds the DVD as DMA 0. Sorry if this all sounds a little confusing, I dont want my DVD to run in PIO mode.. Incidentaly I have just removed the two IDE controllers from Hardware manager and rebooted and now the drives are running in DMA 2 (sony dru500a) and DMA3 (DVDROM). But I understand this is only a temporary solution as other users have tried this only to have the settings go back to PIO a few days later. Also I see new Detonator drivers are out, Ill get them too. Thanks for the quick responses, Ill post any news as soon as the new drivers are installed.

Hi there, I have the same problem with my DVDReader going to PIO mode after a fresh XP install. On my second IDE channel I have Sony DRU500A and JLMS LTD-165H (rebadged Lite-On) as master and slave respectively. When I first ran windows XP Pro after a fresh install the drives showed as DMA 3 (Sony) and DMA 2 (JLMS), all was fine, the JLMS would copy from a dvd at >11x. But after a few days the drive reverted back to PIO and the Sony DMA also dropped to DMA2. My motherboard is a Gigabyte GA7DXR and I am using an ATA66 cable to connect the drives.

After a fresh install, my PC (AMD 1.4 DDR Tbird, 256 DDR, GF2 Ultra, GTXP, 28gig hdspace) will boot up, with all drivers/network set up, in about 35-45 seconds. Then when i get round to install the programs, after I install Norton AntiVirus 2003 my PC will take around four minutes to boot to a usueable state. I am almost certain its Norton that does it, does any one else have this problem, and have you solved it. Ive tried disabling the autoprotect so it doesnt load on startup, but that doesnt stop it. Thanks for any help, Mark.

Im probably going to get a motherboard with RAID 0/1 capabilities and I was readin some of the stuff about it in the mobo Manual. It said in there that the RAID volumes will be the size of the smallest disk and that any space left on a larger would be unusable. I know that it wouldnt be used in the array but what about as a normal partition?? For the sake of an easy life I will be using 2 drives of the same sort in RAID 0. And also If I put 2 drives together they are used as one disk, but will I still be able to partition that disk into other drive letters? eg C: and D: E:...?

Is it true that Microsoft made another major balls up in XP with a bug that allows people to access your Pc and do anything they want? I dont see how this is possible without some sort of trojan horse but its just what someone told me.. I suppose it would be possible with all that application sharing crap, but is it true?

I use a combination of CloneCD and EasyCd Creator (without any updates, I have em just not installed em). And this works fine for me in Windows XP.

I had the BSOD message the other day: 'IRQ_DRIVER_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL' Id seen some other ppl with this message and might have a solution. I had had the top off my pc because one of my fans wasnt working, and i tested the connector with the CPU fan.. and yes, much to my shame i forgot to reconnect the fan... I must appologise... ive already flogged myself...
-
Well if you didnt have a dodgy copy of Easy CD Creator and you werent scared of registering it then you could update it and get it working perfectly... All software needs up[censored] now and then...
-
Direct CD refused to work with XP on my system.. suppose i need to download the updates...
-
That doesnt sound like an XP problem, that sounds like a hardware problem.. try switching your Pc off, plugginf in the device and then back on again. If it doesnt boot from cold you might have HW issues.. Check that you have enuff power in your system, if you have any usb hubs make sure they are powered...

Easy CD creator works perfect on my system, unless i insert a cd when it says initializing engine... lol Plus there are some updates for it on rioxo.com

I have two machines, both XP, connected to a network and would like to get them both to access the internet. But Im on AOL and the built in windows effort for sharing a net connection doesnt work. I used Sambar server on Win2K but it doesnt seem to worek right on XP... So does anyone know of a proxy server I could use on win XP Pro.
-
Thanks for that... I might try that proxy... I only have Sambar set up as a HTTP server right now, but I believe that MSN hides its traffic as HTTP to get passed corporate firewalls, and it works on my pc's at the mo thru sambar.

If your a gamer, dont go back to Me.. Get yourself a copy of Win98 SE. Me has absolutely dire performance. At least for games.

I have two PCs connected over a network, fresh, clean installs... And provided i undid everything that crap home networking wizard did the two PCs would hapily chat, share, print and even share an internet connection together. But all of a sudden they stopped working. Or they slowed right down to the point that double clicking something in a shared folder would cause explorer to stop responding. i havent changed any settings, installed new software and the cables are fine.. (I can ping one machine from the other). And also, sometimes the shortcuts that windows makes of the network shares arent all there... some are missing and they wont come back unless i go and remake them myself. Help appreciated...

I have tried playing two movies in windows xp and when I play them one has no sound at all and one has sound thats goes wierd after less than ten mins. I tried both films using the same codec on my girlfriends pc (both winxp) and they work fine. I thought it was a sound driver problem, I have a GameTheater XP, but wasnt sure. Then I tried playing an mp3 at the same time to see if the sound messed up then but the sound was fine. After a little more investigating i narrowed it down to a problem with the codec or windows media player not initialising the sound system correctly. If I load winamp up first or use Virtual dub to play the film then the sound is correct. Bit odd but I posted incase anyone else had the same probs with there GTXP... Cos they had lots of issues with WinXP

I did a clean install. i dont trust installing over the top...
-
I have the same problem, I actually think its a graphics problem... Maybe check for some new drivers. There was a few results for the explorer mouse thing somewhere...one was mine...!
-
I got the new version of Sambar (v5) and it works a treat... Get it from http://www.sambar.com 5meg
-
No I havent.. But I wouldnt have thought it wouldn't make a difference. The rest of the system is stable. Maybe Ill try it one time, but I seriously doubt it will help...

Im not posting this for help, cos noone can help, this is a complaint and im gonna send something along the same lines to Herculese/Guillemot... I have a divx film that i would like to play and when I do the sound messes up. I have installed the same divx codec on my girlfriends machine and played the movie on her pc (Duron 750/XP Pro). And it was fine. I know its the fu!!ing game theater xp messing up. Im ready to send the frigging thing back. But just as a matter of interest is anyone else having problems with this type of setup...?
