Has anyone had any experience with the nForce chipset? As far as I know, it doesn't have any via parts in it, and it's supposed to be a good performer. I'm looking at buying an amd system in the near future myself, and assuming there aren't problems with the chipset, I will probably buy that over the via chipsets.

You're probably getting blue screens, but XP's default setting is to auto reboot on a blue screen. To turn it off so that you can actually see the error you're getting, right click my computer and click properties. Go to the advanced tab and click settings under startup and recovery. Uncheck the box labeled automatically restart. Won't solve your reboot problem, but at least you'll be able to troubleshoot it now.

FF7 crashes on the chocobo races everytime when I play in XP. It's driving me nuts! Has anyone found a workaround for this? It also crashes on other minigames, but not consistently. So far, I haven't had to play a minigame more than twice, except for the stupid chocobo races. I've tried more than 5 times, and it's really ticking me off. I don't want to dual boot with 98, cause this is the only game I'd end up playing in it. Here's my setup, btw: -- Pentium III 733MHz Asus CUSL2 - Intel 815E chipset 384MB PC133 RAM Gainward Geforce2 Pro 64MB SBLive X-Gamer WinXP Pro -- Any help is appreciated.

Quote: Dangit all to heck. The drivers for x-gamer is not available yet for WinXP. Or am I wrong? I have an X-Gamer, and I installed the drivers they have for the Value, and it worked ok for me. I haven't seen a problem yet, and with the new drivers you get creative's mixer and audio hq. Go ahead and try them out. And if they don't work, that's what driver roll back is for.

One thing I've been wondering, if I buy one of the XP upgrades, can I do a fresh install, or do I have to have 98/2k installed already and do an "upgrade?" If I remember correctly (and I might not ) the Win95 upgrade disc could not be used to do a fresh install, only an upgrade from 3.1. So could anyone clear this up for me?

I actually bought a Geforce2 to replace my Radeon because of poor XP performance. Sure, it's a new OS, and ATI -might- produce some excellent XP drivers in the future, but given their track record with 2000, I don't see that happening. Too bad the DetonatorXP drivers have graphics glitches (FF8), but 14.10 works fine for me now, so I am happy.

Don't know what to tell you, sure sounds like a bad drive to me. Do you have a spare drive to try? Otherwise, seems like a case for the warranty...

Quote: Hey guys....!!!.....i was just wondering if any of you had a solution to this problem im having......windows xp will boot up nice and fast...then get to my user login screen...when i choose my administrator account and type my password it takes no less than 2 minutes for me to actually get into my computer...i have tried reinstalling my nic drivers and settings thinking that may be the cause to no avail......thanks for any info!! Mike Don't know if this is your problem, but try disabling your sound card and see if it fixes it. I have a Live, and in Win2k, it would hang for a while when logging in (though not quite that long). But it only did this after installing the sound card drivers. I think it was a problem with Win2k making everything share an IRQ with the Live. If that is the problem, you might be able to change the IRQ in the bios or something.

First, write down the exact file name. Boot up on the WinXP CD, and select recovery console. I believe you have to log in with the administrator account. When it's done booting up and logging in, type the following: del c:\windows\prefetch\FILENAME Where FILENAME is the exact name of the file you wrote down. Hope this helps.

Do you have a 200mhz front side bus or 266mhz? If it's 200mhz, try limiting your ram speed to 100mhz in the bios. I've known people with the older 200mhz FSB Athlons who had lots of crashing problems when trying to use ram at 133mhz. Going down to 100mhz solved their problems. Might be worth a shot...

Quote: Maybe I'm running the wrong games but I've had absolutely no trouble getting games to run under XP. Even Final Fantasy VII ran fine first time. Compared to the trouble I had to go to to get some titles running under Windows 2000 it was sheer bliss. I too have had good luck with xp and games, but I can't say the same for Final Fantasy VII. No matter what I do, it always crashes on the mini games (motorcycle fight out of midgar, snowboarding, etc). What did you do to get it to work?
