Okay but what with the make menuconfig .... Last time i tried i had a kernel panic about VFS cant mount root fs on 03:02 i think ... I use Grub My steps were : make menuconfig|changes|make dep|make clean|make bzImage|make modules|cp /boot/vmlinuz /boot/vmlinuz.old|cp arch/i386/boot/bzImage /boot/vmlinuz|Grub ( where's the make modules_install ) and within grub> root (hd0,1) | setup (hd0,1) | kernel /boot/vmlinuz | boot (distro:Suse 8.1 Pro) on Laptop Compaq Presario 2800series

I guess ahm sure it's that the solution cause i went through there I was forced to get the newest XFree86ver though and within the XF86Conf i used max or 0 of the vga's mem and worked.* *You know where you choose keyb mouse bla bla vga bla bla hz khz etc Farewell

Within XF86conf there's a question about the shared mem ? Or something like that , which X will use not sure cause i dont remember , it's been a while since i was dealing with mandrake9.0 probs , ahm focused in Suse 8.1 pro now so i cant be more helpful to you and ahm sorry ,,, try to get in kb the total size of your vga's mem and see what happens Farewell

I finally tried init=/bin/sh to execute yast and stop from loading at the boot the services which halts my system but i cant do that cause there's no root nor user account being created so far So what i get is a : yast2.pid i think cannot write on READ ONLY FILESYSTEM If someone knows please how i can stop these services or knows the command to write at the boot options to stop hardware auto detection so i can finally install my suse i'll appreciate it Thank You (Starting hotplugging services net pci usb ( there halts ) in the install halts at the ehci-hcd ( which is the only one i dont probe so i can finish the install)

My presario 2800 with ati radeon mobility 64mb works like a charm in suse 8.1 pro , no more fucked up fonts , interlaced like mode n' blurred vision *Chooose your ati in SAX2 , any monitor vim /.../XF86Config and add the line crt screen within the ATI section ***With 3D enabled Quake3 dvd etc are flying , hell mode like.Smoothly

As i said in the other topic the solution for the SUse 8.1 pro installation prob was to run install with the option : hwprobe=-c03:*:* and before the reboot vim /mnt.../YaST2.firstboot and usb=yes to usb=no Till the prob will be known cause it's still unknown you'll have to work w/o usb support *The prob refers to some compaq presario and other laptops as well Now the solution about ATI (blurred vission fucked up fonts etc ) so instead of using vesa is to get the right ATI in SAX2 and then edit your /.../XF86config and add the line in the section of the ATI "Crt Screen" **I have the dvd loss of frames during the playback solved so if anyone needs help just asks **Xine so far

Hi there , 1st of all , Happy New Year To All Of You Out There Now... Yesterday i went to buy the package of suse 8.1 pro cause i was quite pleased of the linux in general , i was with mandrake 9.0 before and before go and buy the package of suse 8.1 pro i got the live eval 1st to check if it's ok at my laptop which was working okay So yesterday finaly i went to get it.I came home unpatient and the smile soon went off my face as i realized that before even writing the files the system halted , after a lots of tries and lots of ways of install I've noticed that the ehci-hcd probe drove my laptop to halt completely so next time i pressed cancel and kept going with the instalation which went great.... Till the reboot,when the system was loading went to the screen with the OK 's the final i saw was "Starting hotplugging services [net pci usb_ with the cursor there blinking That's it. It's almost 24hours of trying and ahm really pissed about it I think i just throw 90$ away , i even tried to call the guys here in italy and they hanged up the phone , i called in germany maybe they were closed i dont understand german anyway I've sent mails too after the activation... Please advise , ahm really desperate and i'll appreciate if you help me out The irony is that they have my laptop as certified as the suse 8.1 pro is perfectly working ... usb2.0 halts the system ... ? but my laptop uses usb2.0 And i spent 3000euro on this one
