Try running it in QFixApp under the Win98 layer. For more info on this, go to my FAQ page. -
Check out my FAQ page. Look for the QFixApp information, and try running the game in Win98 layer.

*NOTE*...Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2 Performance Problems
ConQueso replied to Silverado's topic in Games
Quote: I read one guy's post that he tried the Detonator 40.72's and the problem went away. Yes, but they can cause other problems. For those who want to play it safe, I'd suggest waiting for the next WHQL Certified drivers to be released. -
I haven't been using QFixApp for a while. With XP SP1 and 2K SP3, maybe 2.5 is the way to go. Whatever works, I guess.
-
You can try using QFixApp. For more details, read my FAQ

Quote: ...only prolems so far is the stupid throttle button issue... Check out my FAQ and look for the stuck keys/mouse delay FAQ, this might work.

Check out my FAQ. Especially the question about keys sticking / mouse delay.

Good luck getting it to run without the screen-goes-all-one-color-except-for-HUD bug. If you can play the game without said bug for over a week, please reply and let us know. I haven't tried to get it running since SP3/2K or SP1/XP or ACT 2.5, maybe one of those help eliminate the problem. Too bad LucasArts couldn't bother to make a simple patch to fix this bug. Here's what I did find out about the game though.
-
Hmm... Shouldn't be necessary, but you could try QFixApp. For more info on it check out my FAQ.

Quote: could one of you please check with WinXP / XP SP1? I played it on a friends XP Home Edition laptop. This was before SP1 though. Perhaps maybe its a CD-ROM drive-protection issue? Do you have an alternate drive to try with? Wait a minute... I'm not sure, but I think it might've been SS2 that had an issue with either not wanting to run from the autoplay popup or from a desktop shortcut in either 2000 or XP. That might've been another game though. I'd try both methods.

Do you have all the latest updates, compatability fixes and drivers? Theif2 seems to normally work fine as indicated by the game compatibility section.
-
Try taking a peek at my FAQ and trying out QFixApp. Or, wait and see if someone responds with a simpler remedy.
-
Classic indeed. Shouldn't need the -LGNTFORCE for the game to run, just to install. Have you tried running it through QFixApp in Win98 layer?
-
I think you install Theif 2 like you would SS2: Click Start Click Run Type out "D:/SETUP.EXE -LGNTFORCE" (without the quotes, where D=whatever the letter of the drive is with the Theif 2 CD in it) Hit enter Download and install the latest patch

Got a problem. Tried canning video and audio acceleration, tried ACT 1.5, no dice. Had an HD problem, and restored my W2K install with Ghost. Now UT takes about 15-30 seconds to change screen resolution, and Age of Empires 2 (fresh install, latest patch) just plain goes black after the intro movies. My system has all updates on the windows update page with exception to IE 6.0. New hardware is a chaintech GeForce3 Ti 200. Tried 21.83 and 28.32 det drivers, no difference. HD has been having several issues lately, so that may also be suspect. Any help would be appreciated.

You can find the latest patch here. After patching the game, run it through MS's ACT. For more details, see my FAQ.

What do you consider the best computer game ever made?

Quote: (It's supposedly very affordeable now, like & found in the "bargain bins" of shops, but I never can find it! Must be pretty good then... gets grabbed up FAST!) Tried a search for it at yahoo shopping? -
If that doesn't work, "sticking keys" can also be the result of running a game above or below normal process priority. For more info, check my FAQ.

Tried using ACT to run the game? Check out my FAQ.

Fan Stacking: Ever heard of it? Your opinions please...
ConQueso replied to Brian Frank's topic in Hardware
A flow of wind high enough to cause significant CPU cooling (beyond that already generated by the CPU fan itself) would likely also cause uneven 'lift' so to say from the CPU fan. Directional air would give the CPU fan's blades going the opposite direction as the wind more lift than the other side, which would lead to excessive wear and tear as the fan would want to spin diagonaly off plane of its mounted axis. If you want better CPU cooling, I'd suggest going with a better CPU fan or heatsink. -
Oops. Turns out the readme had the fix, just add nostartup to the shortcut to disable the intro video at start. Have to add the readme check to my FAQ. Silly me for thinking such a problem would have been eliminated in an MS game for an MS OS, and assuming it was therefore a video prob. However, has anyone else experienced UT taking over 15 seconds just to do a resolution change?!? I'm used to it only taking a second or two.

nteresting nvidia nfo found here, here and here. How about them alleged NV30 specs?
-
Ya, the no performance hit FSAA should be nice, but I'm wondering how many nvidia/ATI GPU generations it'll be before they implement Parhelia's redeeming feature, 16x Fragment Anti-Aliasing. It's clearly superior to FSAA, and doesn't cause much of a performance hit, either.

Might as well throw in a link to this.

If that doesn't get it to work, try my FAQ.
