What hardware are you using?
-
Did you click Win98 under layers, and then uncheck EmulateJoystick under fixes? Or are you running another compatibility layer? Are you using QFixApp on the right file (FAQ shows how to tell)? Are their two or more files that need simultaneous compatibility fixes? What did the other threads say about fixing the game, and what have you tried from those threads? Do you have the latest WHQL drivers? Does DXDIAG report any errors?
-
Don't know. The list shows no one could get it running. It might be a single fix that needs checking or unchecking, or it might just not play on Win2000 (pre-SP3). Maybe after Windows 2000 SP3 is released, using ACT version 2.5 can get it running, as it runs in WinXP. Maybe not... Do you have the game's latest patch?
-
Where's the proof?
-
Try escaping past any intro videos. If that doesn't work, try this.

Promotional or not, it's a free game that would likely cost $40-$50 if its production wasn't paid for by tax-dollars, and it uses the latest in Unreal Technology. Advertisements have been used in video games before, maybe this is just the next logical step... That is, instead of having advertisements in a game, have the advertisement the game itself. Interesting how each team plays as members of the US Army, with both teams only perceiving the opposing team as terrorists--no one has to be the bad guy! Brilliant.

Oof. Ya, I tried up[censored] the bios on a computer, and all the sudden the BIOS/CMOS had a password. HP tech support said it shouldn't even be capable of having a password! When other options failed, I decided to take out the BIOS Battery for a day and put it back in. Lucky for me, it worked fine afterword, with no password. This should be a last resort, though. I'd imagine this method could make things worse just as much as it could make things better.

Well, unless it's a safedisc incompatibility, you could try this.
-
In QFixApp, did you try (after clicking Win98 layer) unchecking "EmulateJoystick" under the fixes tab?

Anyone else had this problem? Delta Force 2 multiplayer: every computer joins current game fine except for systems running XP, which sometimes join but normally don't get anywhere for more than 5 minutes. Problem was easy to dodge the first time: host it on the XP system. Well, now there are 2 XP systems. I tried removing QoS packet, enabling NetBIOS over TCP/IP, there's no firewall, and I deleted that key as well (the D6377... one). System does other multiplayer games (using IPX or TCP/IP) fine, including Delta Force 1. Oh, and this is using the latest game version and DX 8.1 with host computers using 2000 or XP with or without QFixApp.

Try this.

I was disappointed with the release of GTA3 for the PC, because: A couple months ago, I read something in PCGamer (April 2002, p. 27) about GTA3 PC--"A key feature will be support for 16-person multiplay..." 8) --> As I've played and finished the PS2 version, the primary reason I was looking forward to GTA3 PC was multiplayer. So either PCGamer got their facts wrong, or Rockstar abandoned the plans for multiplayer in the game's release. If the latter, Rockstar shouldn't release such details and then bail out on them. Sure the custom skins, mp3 player custom radio station, higher detail, and mouse control are nice additions. But $50 to play the same (gameplay/plot-wise) game? ;( Maybe they've just postponed multiplayer, and a future patch will contain it.

Compatibility layer never did much for me. I don't even bother with it anymore. If the game doesn't work with the latest patch, I go straight to QFixApp.
-
I had a game that would crash if you let the opening video play more than a few seconds, but it worked if I quickly escaped past it. Tried that? Do you have the latest patch?
-
You using the compatability layer, by right clicking the shortcut/file, or actually using QFixApp from ACT 1.5? If you're not using QFixApp, try the FAQ suggestion link above.
-
Try this, but get ACT 2.0 or 2.5.

Deus Ex crashes - mouse accelleration is not reset
ConQueso replied to Gambler FEX online's topic in Games
I understand now, you're using a mouse pad, so you're mouse movement is somewhat limited. Early on playing UT, I did away with the mousepad, and haven't gone back. I just had to clean out the mouse more often. With the extra movement space, acceleration became unneccessary, and lack of it proved to increase my accuracy greatly. Great thing is, with optical mice out, the mouse pad is no longer needed at all. Bad thing is the usual optical mouse can glitch if moved to fast. Solution: MS Intellimouse Optical. 5 buttons, page scroll, and 6,000 scans per second make it one of the best (if not the best) mice out there for FPS games. (If you decide to get one, check the back of the box to be sure it is the newer model, that actually scans at 6,000 images per second (older models don't)) There's no terribly accurate, affordable way to verify specific mouse acceleration levels between different games while in the games themselves. With mouse acceleration off, however, all one needs is a ruler, standardizing a 360 turn to X amount of mouse movement distance, your (nearly) exact mouse settings can be set the same with all FPS games, thereby eliminating the need to "adjust" to different FPS games. So any FPS game played increases ones accuracy for ALL FPS games (well, those set to the standard, of course) -
For gaming performance (to be used on an nforce mobo) which CPU is better? (they go for about the same price) A 950MHz Thunderbird, or a 1.2GHz Duron?
-
While I'm at it, is it a safe assumption that you can put a MicroATX mobo in an ATX case? In this case (no pun intended) an Antec SX630. From the images of the mobo and case, it apprears the holes match the MicroATX.
-
That's what I was thinking, but I know the Duron is a weaker processor. What advantages does the Thunderbird have, despite it's slower speed? Thanks for the input.

Deus Ex crashes - mouse accelleration is not reset

Are you saying you prefer mouse acceleration, but prefer a specific acceleration rate? If so, I suggest trying to eliminate all forms of mouse acceleration. By doing this, X inches worth of movement always equals Y amount of view rotation. Makes it much easier to do a quick 180, or make aim much quicker with better accuracy. Or maybe you're talking of mouse sensitivity? If you want a specific sensitivity, look in the user.ini file in the ...Deus Ex\System for mousesensitivity (didn't the menu only allow whole numbers?) As for problems caused in mouse movement after exiting a game, I'd suggest just rebooting or checking to be sure your mouse files are correct and up to date. -
Quote: ... (the next 3 Tom Clancy based games will use the new Unreal Engine) My bad, TSOAF uses the Ghost Recon engine, not the Unreal Engine.

Well, first I'd suggest getting the security updates, or anything else under the "Critical Updates" section, if it's the windows update page you're speaking of. Second, I'd suggest reading further down on the FAQ--"If that information didn't help to get the game running..."
