You could try ACT, I'd recommend trying to find 2.6. More details are in my FAQ. You could also try the game's latest patch.

Game Software/Hardware Incompatibility Questions/Concern
ConQueso replied to Chad M. Collins's topic in Games
I recommend getting a new video card, nothing less than a GeForce4MX or an ati 8000/9000 series. If you have an AGP, then you've got plenty of options. If you've only got PCI, then the cheapest I'd go with would be a GeForce4MX. You can find the PCI versions for just over $50. 3dfx has been out of the game a long time now. Compatibility will be bad and will only get worse. That and the V3 is a very week card by todays standards, and doesn't even support 32-bit color among other things. -
DosFreak, Your help to the 2K/XP gaming community is much appreciated. Thanks again for the C2 help. I'd like to help out a bit myself and point out that Star Wars: Racer does not run without problems in Win2K/XP from the standard install. It needs two files to be replaced as described on this official LucasArts support page. I haven't played recently but after playing probably 20-30 races didn't have the bug once. So hopefully this actually does eliminate the bug. Also note that the game seems to have a quirk about joysticks... In order to play with my n45 gamepad, I had to disconnect all my other joysticks. I think it's picky about detecting only one joystick, though I could be wrong.

Don't forget about the Rebirth mod. Did you get it running?

I'd try jmmijo's suggestion in this thread.

You could try looking at DriverGuide. Maybe try binding it as a one of the generic gamepads or a custom one? Or do you need drivers for advanced features? If you end up not being able to get the drivers you're looking for, I recommend this deal.

Just in case you didn't know and have been having some slight bugginess, Ranulf, LucasArts released to fix files http://www.ntcompatible.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=23597

Anyone have any ideas about solving the following problems? When I launch DXDIAG, (even after a fresh boot) It gives me an option to bypass direct sound, then gives the following error: Error: Problem getting extra sound info, result code 0x8878000a (the request failed because DirectSound resources, such as the priority level, were already in use by another caller) Under the SOUND tab (in DXDIAG) the device name is modem #0 line playback (emulated) and there is no info under the driver section. I have a SB Live Platinum 5.1 installed, with up to date drivers. Creative Laucher won't respond after clicking the volume tab. I'm getting functional sound, but in Pod Racer only one or two sound effects will be played at once (no taunts, no commentating, no 'it's a new lap record', etc. sometimes engine sounds cut out during turbo sound. Also, in pod racer, sometimes (usually after skipping intro sequences to get to the default racing view) The screen (all except for the Heads Up Diplay Graphics) goes all one color, followed usually by the engines damage HUD flashing all red. Escape works, and I can use the menu to exit that race, so it's not instantly freezing/crashing. The game will function after doing so, yet the problem randomly persists. System Specs: Win2000 SP2 with Application compatability update and Application compatability toolkit ver 1.5) 512 RAM P4 1.4 SB Live! Platinum 5.1 - latest drivers Nvidia GeForce2MX 400 - 6/6/01 detonator drivers (alienware won't yet support later drivers) Logitech Wingman Action USB gamepad I've tried lowering Video Acceleration 1 and 2 notches from max, it didn't solve problem.

Just thought I'd post here so that those who had problems with Pod Racer might get the auto email linking to this thread. Check out the fix here. http://www.ntcompatible.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=23597

Tom-Boy, not sure if this will help or not but... http://www.ntcompatible.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=23597

Ya, I'd read that too. It was in a PC Gamer, maybe a year ago or longer. I have no idea how valid it is.

Tried ACT? Read my FAQ for more info.

That's strange... I did a search for the thread and now it has a different URL: http://66.98.158.201/forums/viewtopic.php?t=20986

[edit] go here for new patch info. [/edit] Tried Pod Racer again. Moved the video troubleshooting notch two to the left of full acceleration (Display Properties>Advanced>Troubleshoot (tab)). So far, no screen-all-one-color glitch. Didn't even use ACT. If anyone else tries it out, please post your results along with OS, GPU, and video drivers. Below are mine. WinXP SP1 GeForce2 40.72 drivers I'll probably try it out on my 2K system shortly, and post the results.

Well, I've probably raced another dozen races and no crashes to desktop or solid screen color bug. Though once there was a second pause where I thought it was going to crash but didn't. Anyone else tried it yet? While the AI racers aren't much a challenge until late in the game, but the sheer speed preceived playing the game is incredible. I've heard the console versions are much slower than the PC release. Anyway, for those interested who haven't played it yet, you can find the game for $10 in the rerelease packaging in stores and the same price for the initial release online. While not an incredible game, it's worth $10. The demo can be found here though I'd imagine it might have bugs. I have no idea if the patches for the retail game would affect the demo, but if someone tries this, please post the results. Also note that the game has a quirk about joysticks... In order to play with my n45 gamepad, I had to disconnect all my other joysticks. I think it's picky about detecting only one joystick.

LucasArts has released to files to help compatibility in XP! So far with 6 races, I haven't experienced the screen-all-one-color bug. Hopefully they actually killed this bug. There is a fix for a crash to desktop, which I hadn't had until I replaced the swepracer file, but after a crash, I installed that file too. Please post any positive or negative results along with video card, vid card drivers, and OS and DX version. GF3 Ti200 44.03 XP SP1 dx9.0b 6 races no SAOC bug Here's the link: http://support.lucasarts.com/trg/xp/swep1racer.htm

I've got a large chunk of text in a cell, formatted to general under the numbers tab, but it won't display or print all the text, even though there is plenty of room at the bottom of the cell. The only place it shows all the text is in the dropdown fx box where you enter formulas. Anyone know how to get this information to show on the sheet and also when printing?

Hmm... That's likely it. I'll try to find out for sure and post back later. Thanks for the responses.

An official SS3 isn't looking very likely, however...
-
Textures? Perhaps you're referring to the Rebirth mod (that has better textures and much more detailed 3D models) which can be found at the actual Rebirth homepage (site design done by me, beleive it or not, though I cannot of course take credit for the portions of the SS2 GUI I used, just the manipulation of them to fit the layout... the old site layout just didn't do CyberBlutches work justice, so I redid it for him )

How would one go about setting up a financial application to all files including temp to the floppy, and send absolutely none to the HD? Any help would be appreciated.

For anyone in the US interested in getting a superb gamepad at a great price: buy.com just got the n45 back in stock, and it's once again under $16 shipped free. Be sure to DL the 2.6 driveres (linked to above).

Thanks for the reply. My cell height though isn't even at 500, nor the width 255, though. Any ideas?
