Quote: thats correct. ur hardware needs to be fully compatible with this function. if i use the standby mode in win2k, i can get back and everything runs fine except the sound doesn't work unless i restart the computer. i also have a similar problem with winme. if i use the standby feature, my computer can not get back to windows and i need to restart. It's the SB PCI 128 that doesn't restore. My PC has no sound after standby unless I reboot.

The K7S5A is based on the SiS 735 chipset and doesn't use VIA 4 in 1s. I only install the AGP driver and my system is working fine.

HardDisk running extremely slow!!!! HELP!!
Champion_R replied to Neo335's topic in Everything New Technology
Are you copying between partitions or drives? Are both drives on the same controller? Is DMA enabled for both drives? Just a few things to check. -

I have a removable drive bay in my computer, it's connected to the mainboard with a 80pin cable. But inside the cradle there is a 1 to 2 inch 40pin cable. My computer is running the device at UDMA Mode 5(ATA100) even tho there is a 40pin cable. Would it be in my best intrest to buy a cradle that has an 80pin cable or just leave it. My instincts tell me it's a bad idea having a 40pin cable running ATA100.

Are you using the drivers with Windows or ones from Creative?
-
Yes, the 40 extra wires are designed to prevent crosstalk.

Anyone have an experience with the A7N8X motherboard?

ECS K7S5A, onoly one drive per IDE channel!?!? WTF!?!
Champion_R replied to HELLBRINGER's topic in Hardware
Quote: ECS=Crap. That's why you pay good money for other brands. Sure, some people have problems with this board and there are a few issues but I'd certainly use it over any VIA piece of crap. -
10,000 rpm WD SATA-EIDE drives on the way! 5.2ms seektimes!
Champion_R replied to SHS's topic in Hardware
10000rpm IDE drives would be very useful to certain people. Especially those who don't want to shell out on SCSI drives and controllers. But IMHO I can't see gamers needing these drives. But there are gamers kiddies out there who'll buy em just to say they have the best. I think they will sell these drives. -
Quote: Well, I think it's fairly safe to say most everyone's score(s) will be going down with the soon-to-be-released 3DMark03... Rumor has it that it will be released Feb. 11th, for those who are interested. Maybe I can get sub 1000 if I don't upgrade my graphics hardware

which is best to run... 16 or 32 bit color?

Even the Windows XP Welcome screen looks rubbish in 16bit mode. -

Champion_R replied to doniej's topic in Everything New Technology
Stuff looks crap on 16bit. I always use 32bit. As long as your video card is AGP, 32bit won't be a burden. -
If you have any spare PCI slots just buy a cheap PCI sound card. I've seen Vibra 128 cards for about AUD$30. Don't bother with ISA.

GeForce FX vs Radeon 9700 - your thoughts? - official thread
Champion_R replied to Mr.Guvernment's topic in Slack Space
Quote: P.S.=> Champion, you'd HATE my system... I can hear it across the house! Fans galore... had to go that route, 8000rpm ones on my CPU's alone! Last summer was a record shattering one, So many days that broke 100 degrees F in a row that broke heat records that stood 100++ years here, I had to cool my rig, & noise WAS the price! apk I only have 2 case fans (unknown speed but pretty slow) and a 4500rpm CPU fan. I thought that was pretty loud seeing as I had a Celeron 633 with just the stock cooler before. P.S. If I needed 2 8000rpm fans I'd start looking towards water cooling or some other form of quieter cooling. I find hearing TV programs over my fans annoying enough. -
Have you tried formatting it outside of Windows XP? I'd give that a try.

I think performence takes a back seat when it comes to that noise. Sounds like a vacum cleaner. Too loud. -
Anyone know any good programs that monitor SMART?

Windows NT/2000/XP Does it work OK with your PC
Champion_R replied to jsaunders's topic in Legacy OS
Is it just me or is the disk caching in Windows XP rubbish. I find it expands far too much and it pages out everything to fill all of physical memory with the disk cache. Thats my biggest hate of Windows XP. -
how do i recover a win xp password?
Champion_R replied to sflesch23's topic in Everything New Technology
Don't even need to boot into safe mode. When the welcome screen is up, press CTRL+ALT+DEL twice. Then you can log in as the Administrator account (providing you remember that ) -
Quote: BUT, the "SYSTEM PROCESS" in taskmgr.exe processes tab is really alot of things iirc, drivers processes as well. A shame it's not broken into all of its parts so you could "Zero-In" on the offending process! I'm sure he said there is no processes on the processes list including system using any CPU time bar the idle process. Definately seems driver or hardware related.

Then all the usage is kernel time. Try different video and sound cards. I assume ur already running bare minimum. P.S. I'd also check your DMA settings and make sure DMA is turned on.
